He’s not above any of those 3. They are more unique than Mikko. Mikko’s in that next group though and likely the next guy on the list.

Would hate to lose either guy, but I’d probably prioritize Mikko. Rantanen could be a hall of famer some day if he ages well.
I understand going with Sam-wise because of the contract though.
The thing about Mikko is that he's actually paid what he's worth. G and Mack are on extremely team friendly deals that shoot their worth up a ton.
And I value defensemen very highly… I hate to lose either. And Toews and Landy

Mikko's combination of size and skill is awfully rare too. Especially on the Avs, where it's a lot more rare than Girard's puck mobility and offense on the back end.
Girard is an amazing defenseman, but the Avs could get by without him a lot easier than without Mikko IMO.
Byram will be able to replace most if not all of what Girard brings pretty soon, but there's nobody that can replace Mikko.

In a team with Makar, Toews, Byram, Graves, Barron on the way etc Girard is not that important. Good player but not a gamebreaker.

what do you guys think of going after RNH??
I’m not the biggest fan of him or anything, but I’m sure he’d be better than Kadri and can also play wing if Newhook looks good enough to become a top 6 guy. He might also be willing to take a discount with all the losing he’s gone through.

Not insane... defensemen are just more important than wingers.

Defensemen are simply more important than wingers. G showed legit #1D ability this year and was a top 10 defensmen in the league. It will be interesting to see if that holds, but if it does, he's a top 10 most valuable piece in the NHL. A just turned 23 year old #1D signed for 6 more years at $5m is just an absurd luxury to have. Even if the offense regresses and he's more of a #2... that is still far more valuable than any wing. I wouldn't even trade G straight up for Kucherov.
Yeah give me Girard at his 5M cap hit for the entirety of his prime, over Rantanen. Girard is #3 on the untouchable list for me after Mack and Mak.
Though realistically Rantanen is pretty much right next to Girard. Those 4 guys are the 4 guys on this team that shouldn't be available under almost any circumstances. The only exception being Jack Eichel.
On another note.... I'm calling it right now. The Pens are going to trade for MAF this summer and go all in on one last cup run with the original core of that team before starting a full tear down next summer.
And, this will go hand in hand with Vegas landing Eichel after trading Fleury and his 7M cap hit away.

Like I said you truly are insane!
First of all Girard is not a top10 defenseman in the league. That's just absurd thing to say.
But like you said it yourself Girard is a luxury piece to have. Specially likes of Byram and Barron pushing in to the line up. Rantanen on the other hand is not a luxury piece, he's a necessity if we want to really contend now and going forward.
