Ghost seems to be too much of a project for me. If the Kings are going to go that project route, I would rather the kings work with Clague, Andersen, and Björnfot. Plus sign Edmundson for 2 years as a stop gap for the expansion draft.

I think hes a bit better than a project. I'd compare him as Ben Hutton 2.0 but a better player than Hutton I.E. a good player whos been misused and put it bad situations by his current team causing him to struggle. Put him somewhere fresh and use him on his correct side with a good partner and theres no reason he cant return to his previous numbers.

Is there a different return to North America rule in Liiga than the SHL or something? I doubt it, but just wondering out loud.

There actually is, SHL doesn't allow loan players with options to leave mid-season. That's why a few of our Swedish prospects have been loaned to Allsvenskan (2. div in Sweden) instead.

No. How quick we are to toss away last year's toy for the new shiny model. When Turcotte was healthy, he was very good at Wisconsin. The FO is still, as they should be, very high on him as am I. He and Tyler Madden could very well turn into dynamic wings if not centers for the big club. Both bring a 1v1 ability that is currently lacking on the NHL roster. Madden seems more a finisher and Turcotte faster and a playmaker. All of the centers in the pipeline, including Vilardi and potentially Byfield/Stutzle (if you fancy him as a center) need to actually prove out at the NHL level before we should consider center or forward prospects as a position of strength in the organization.

So how exactly do we solve our defensemen issues, but we are not burning the 1st round here for it. Wait until next year's draft? Find anyone interesting in free agency that we can get for a good price?

Number 1, nobody's trading out of the top 10 anyway a month before the draft or on draft day, so that hypothetical is a futile thought exercise. Number 2, there are at least 2 heralded rookies breaking into the defense next year. Anderson looks like the real deal (and is highly regarded by the FO) as he and Roy looked great together. Bjornfot played great as an 18 year old in the AHL and looks to be a good one. Doughty's not going anywhere and Roy and Walker are mid-20s and are not bad defensemen by any stretch. The Kings will likely sign a pretty good veteran LHD to compliment the youth, but the Kings didn't suck last year because of their defense. The Kings had great possession numbers and other good underlying numbers. The Kings were 14th in the NHL in goals allowed and that's with what was a PUTRID PK for most of the season. They turned it up down the stretch and PK'd much better. The Kings sucked because they had the 6th worst PP and the second worst offense in the league. That's not defensemen issues. That's forwards who can't finish issues. Jamie Drysdale isn't some elixir that sovles the Kings woes and it's why I sure as hell wouldn't draft him at #2 or trade a highly regarded center within the organization for the right to draft him.

I just like Drysdale. Great skater and I think he’ll do well in the NHL.

I like Turcotte but you’ve got Kopi-Byfield-Vilardi-numerous young centers.

Turcotte for Drysdale is about an even trade in my book.

How would you feel about Turcotte for Noah Dobson? Would you also feel like that is an even trade in your book?

Next year's draft is defense-heavy and the Kings won't be in contention. If (and likely when) the Kings have a top ten pick next year, they'll have great defensive depth.

Selling low on Turcotte imo and a bad idea.

This is why it’s a bad trade right now... it’s too early to pull the trigger on Turcotte or bringing in a Defenceman via trade. There is no rush and there is every reason to think Turcotte will see his stock rise this coming season. Whilst Drysdale is the best D in the draft he’s not guaranteed to be Elite. Personally I think being the best D in the draft is affecting his ranking, creating a premium and making him seem more valuable. So if Stützle played D I think Drysdale would be ranked something closer to #10-15.

People have also turned far too quickly on Turcotte. No it wasn’t a great year but there were clear reasons for it, which I won’t repeat and he was starting to look like the player we hoped he’d be as the season ended. It may be we move him as there is clearly good depth at his position but now is not the time especially, as RJ says, we’d be selling low and it would be awful asset management. He’s also one of the players that will help define the culture we want to build in the dressing room. So it’s far from clear he’d be the right guy to move out and it’s equally uncertain that Drysdale is the guy we should acquire. A definite no for me, at the moment.
