Btw someone had a good point in the Ontario thread - kings haven’t drafted a physical winger in years. If they plan on playing Big MacD as the 7th D, they better either draft a Clifford type of like I said in an earlier post sign a Maroon, Martin or even a minor league guy with NHL experience they send back and forth when we play tough teams like a Kurtis Gabriel.
Would love to get a Ryan Reeves type of player in the Kings roster.

If not, I'd settle for Maroon...

Willie Mitchell was truly a great player. Rarely mentioned but just a fantastic defenseman in all situations. Not flashy but played the defensive zone as well as anyone, could be mean when he had to, underrated offensive game... The Kings were lucky he had a couple of injuries or else they would never had been able to acquire him.

Not never, but they would've had to overpay more for him than they already had to overpay for him. Any offer would've required an extra year, and x amount more in cash. Probably closer to Scuderi numbers right off the bat. Mitchell eventually got the same contract that Scuderi got, he just did it in 2 different contracts. Looking back, it would've been easy to hand Mitchell a 4/5 year deal, but for a 33 year old, that would've been steep.

Why not just sign Clifford?

I would sign Clifford as a consultant or part of the staff/training team, but I don't want him back as a player. It's time to pass those roster spots off to our future. Some of our young players and "prospects" are 22-25 and not prospects anymore. Amadio, Frk, Wagner, Grundstrom, Moore, Lizotte, and then you have our real prospects. We have enough veteran leadership, don't really need anymore. There aren't a lot of spots to go around.

I can see signing a bridge defenseman, but that is really it, the rest is just internal player development until it is time to move excess prospects for proven talent to work with what we've developed...

Clifford can't play in the McDavid era of hockey and his dismal stats prove it's time for him and his agent to call Col Trautman.

Pressure? Let me just say that Clifford is the best hockey vet I've ever seen. A pure fighting machine with only a desire to win a playoff series that someone else lost.
And if winning means he has to die, he'll die. No fear, no regrets.

And one more thing: what you choose to call the penalty box, he calls home.

Then what happened was Brendan Smith laid out Amadio and MacD fought him and killed him in less than 5 seconds.

Different game. The clip is from after Smith fought Kempe to end the 1st period and also followed a huge hit Clifford put on Smith earlier in the period. This was from the 2018 season.

Every time MacDermid drops the gloves I think he's going to win the fight. Doesn't matter who. I just watched a highlight of him pounding Mike Liambas of the Ducks and it was hilarious. Quick standing there taking it all in. Then MacD just starts rapid fire punching bagging Liambas and Quickie starts banging his stick on the ice cheering on MacD. Funny stuff.

that liambas fight is still one of my favorites though, mac skates to the box while staring down the anaheim bench

Only two guys can stand with MacD, Reaves and Ross Johnston. Johnston beat MacD in rookie camp in 2013? - so that should be interesting when they meet 7 years later.
