NYR fan coming in peace. Curious about Turcotte. Any chance he will be available? You guys should have some really nice center depth and should add more after this draft so maybe Turcotte is expendable? If so, would Vitali Kravstov plus a small add interest you? We have lots of wingers but no centers so maybe there is a deal here?

How about the Kings add something to Turcotte to get Lafreniere?

Blake is going to have to sell some tickets. Signing Edundson will sell a total of 0 season tickets. this team isn't a depth dman away from a championship. The Kings have 2 top line wingers who belong on the 3rd line, a 1st line center who is a #2, no talent on the 3rd and 4th lines, an archaic offensive system and fans who have lost interest in the product. Blake has his work cut out for him.

Yikes. "Other than that, what did you think of the play, Mrs. Lincoln??"

The Kings aren't at the point where they're molding a roster. They're just acquiring youth. That deal isn't really acquiring youth. There may come a day where Turcotte needs to go, but that's not soon.

If you want to hand Kravtsov to the Kings, that's fine, but it'll be for an older asset than a 19 year old. Not that the Kings have anyone older than 20 that could get the 9th pick from 2018.

The thought behind signing Edmundson is not for a partner for Drew. It is for size, physical play, eating minutes and providing some veteran leadership to young players that may be wary of approaching a Doughty type player.

We will have a smaller skilled team made of money you for players. We have lost a lot of grit over the last few years and with treating Clifford last season we don’t really have anyone other than MacDermid that can drop the gloves on a regular basis and he is not a regular player

Edmonton brings the physical grit, debility to block shots, eight minutes and protect the players on a regular basis. He helps on the penalty kill and does have a bit of an underrated offense of game. As fun as it would be to march out our rookies on the left side we are not the Edmonton Oilers and we want to place our young players in the best situation possible.

The only player of our rookies that I think is truly ready is Anderson. I love Bjornfot but him spending time between the NHL and NHL as he learns his trade is not a bad thing.

I think MacDermid is the best seven defenseman in the league as he brings a characteristic that most teams don’t have. The guy can be downright nasty and is good enough to play in short batches of games but not good enough to play long-term.

Clague right now still needs work in the defensive side and strength side plus he can play the right side.

On our right side we have two very new defenseman. Both seem to go in the opposite directions last year at the end of the year with Toy picking up his game and walkers game starting to fade.

The only sure fire defenseman we have back there at this point is Doughty. I’m sure guys like Anderson and Roy will have the ability to play a full season but we still have to count for injuries.

I think signing a strong physical stay at home presents like Edmundson even for 4 to 5 years goes a long way in solidifying the defense. We have a Lotta cup space at this point and will have a lot more what our younger players or do their second contract. We also have an expansion draft coming up that we have to consider.

You lost me at Kopitar being a #2 C. The guys a superstar, hes carried the team in scoring for over a decade while being the best defensive center of the decade. He gets paired with average wingers and still carries the line every year and its not like hes feeding Ovi for easy assists each year. Hes 32 and has not dropped off one bit. The teams been a dumpster fire for the last two seasons, but he has carried himself and his play to the same high level as he has his whole career. Hes a first liner on any team in the league.

Edmundson and Dillon would be terrible signings as UFAs. No way you hand out a multi year contract to either of those guys. I’d rather take a shot at a depth signing, similar to Hutton. Maybe some 24 to 28 year old European player is available on D.

Saying we need to sign a partner for Doughty is a joke. The guy is paid $11M a season, he needs to carry any partner given to him. Getting rid of Forbort should be the move that helps Doughty on the ice. Matt Roy is turning into a smart and steady player. Let him pair with Doughty and see what happens.
Forbort played 11 games with Drew last year. Roy hardly plays with Drew at all because both are right handed. So....

You know the kings have done their drafting right and are about to emerge from the rebuild when so many prospects are the target of lowball offers from other fanbases.

Kings have too many Cs and X needs a change of scenery, here's two nickels for a dime. No? lol we didn't want him anyway, what a shit prospect. We'll keep our nickels thanks.

Rinse, repeat.

But he had a bad year based on these stats I cherrypicked! I would know, considering I didn’t watch a single one of his games this season!

Nice to see a trade break, could see more as the playoffs continue to eliminate teams. Should be a lot of jam packed action player movement wise with the CAP issues pending, especially after the Cup is awarded in late September or the first few days of October.

Buy outs start Sept 25th
Qualifying offers due Oct 6th
Draft Oct 9th-10th
Free agency should start sometime during the week of Oct 12th (waiting for official date)
Development camp immediately after the draft?? Hopefully since CHL does not start until Dec 1st unless not allowed due to COVID restriction. Not likely any Euro players involved.
Rookie camp around Nov 10th
Training camp Nov 17th
Season begins Dec 1st
AHL season begins Dec 4th

A very busy 60 days starting Oct 1st assuming COVID does not mess everything up. (Post not intended to spark a COVID discussion, lets focus on hockey and playing).

I had a feeling we'd start seeing things after the draft lottery.

Still kind of appalling that either of those two teams could have landed Lafreniere but will settle for this trade instead.

This post should be stickied. I always find it nearly impossible to find dates like this on nhl.com

Probably one of the best UFA signings in Kings history.

The Kings were one of three teams who were in pursuit of Mitchell, the others being San Jose and Washington. I think the reason he chose LA was the security of the extra year that was being offered to sign here, versus the one-year offers he was getting elsewhere.

It's easy to forget that he and Justin Williams were both viewed as injury risks when we acquired them. Great moves by DL in both cases that aren't always noted for their risk/reward potential given how successful Mitchell and Williams were in LA after the fact.

Dean did his due diligence and found two players who fit perfectly into a couple of holes in the lineup.

Willie Mitchell was truly a great player. Rarely mentioned but just a fantastic defenseman in all situations. Not flashy but played the defensive zone as well as anyone, could be mean when he had to, underrated offensive game... The Kings were lucky he had a couple of injuries or else they would never had been able to acquire him.

Considering the Kings luck with free agents, I think the best

This one was pretty good.

Btw someone had a good point in the Ontario thread - kings haven’t drafted a physical winger in years. If they plan on playing Big MacD as the 7th D, they better either draft a Clifford type of like I said in an earlier post sign a Maroon, Martin or even a minor league guy with NHL experience they send back and forth when we play tough teams like a Kurtis Gabriel.
