A top UFA is not going to be the difference between this team and a contender. Considering the pandemic is destroying HRR, I would rather the team save the money and be able to spend more sooner than the kings would otherwise.

Or take a bad short-term deal to gain an asset. I guess "bad" isn't really fair to the players, but i'm thinking like Bozak or Steen from STL if they intend to keep Pietrangelo, or any number of guys from NYI, given they have to pay Barzal and Pulock will get a nice raise.

If the kings had a barren prospect pool, I would seriously consider it - maybe even accept a cap dump.

But the kings have the best prospect pool in the NHL and that is before this years draft is added. The Kings have 5 maybe 6 2nd round picks over the next two drafts. It would have to be at least a 1st which I don't see the Blues paying. The benefit isn't there to move the needle for me.

They didn't do it with Marleau, unless Carter was going the other way, so I'm not sure the Kings are in the contract dump market.

Seeing how a 35 year-old Bergeron and a 43 year-old Chara are performing on a team that finished with the best regular season record gives me hope that Kopitar and Doughty will still be significant players on a younger Kings roster.
Look at the Stars also. Radulov is 34. Pavelski is 36. Both are looking great in the playoffs.

Sabres fan here wondering about any of Kempe, Vilardi, Iafallo.

Could any be available?

Which have played center the past season?

What are LA’s needs?

What would the cost be for any that are available?

Thanks

I'm in the minority around here, but i'm not a big fan of Iafallo in his current role on the top line, due in-large part to the price tag associated with it. I'd probably take a 2nd round pick in return, given it's a 1 year thing.

Vilardi is untouchable (within reason) at this point, and that doesn't change if they pick Byfield.

Kempe is a good question, some love him, some hate him.

Was Kempe playing center or wing? And would he be available for something like Colin Miller or Brandon Montour?

He played both, but I think the consensus is he's gonna have to play wing on a good NHL team. As for the price tag, I think the last thing they RH defenseman at the NHL level, if it were a young player that'd be a different story, but the right side is pretty well set to start next season. I think the value is pretty good though.

Kings likely aren't trading Vilardi. They think very highly of him and spent a lot of time working with him so he would be fit to play.

Not that they'll "never" trade him, but it's way too soon.

Iafallo is almost exclusively a left wing. Not that it would require an overpay, but it would be a hard sell to part with their only experienced left wing who is competent as a top-six forward.

Kempe would, in my opinion, be the most available. He has played all forward positions and he's not likely to move up the depth chart anymore.

Kings are most in need of a young, top pairing dedenseman. Though Kempe isn't enough to return one, it's probably where the depth chart has the highest focus now.

All comments are shut down on there, im guessing due to comments made about politics and currents events. It's been anarchy over there ever since Rosen got the boot.

Confirmed.

It was a free for all over the two-day pause in playoffs.

I’m pretty sure my fingers added to the shutdown. I gone been bad.

Ah, thanks for the clarification, I thought for a second the Kings were completely shutting down the lakingsinsider.com site. Although at this point they might as well given the fact the site is pretty much dead since they let Rosen go and they barely provide any content on there.

The comments section there were pretty useless on the most part anyhow. I guess it's more in line with those who prefer not to discuss hockey or the Kings.

If we could trade Kempe for a 24-ish Willie Mitchell type, that'd be ideal.....

Realistically, I don't think we see Iafallo or Kempe actively shopped for at least 2 years. Comparatively, they are the future Killorn, Johnson, Palat, or Gourde of a Kings team coming out of a (hopefully) successful rebuild. If Vilardi, Byfield, Turcotte, Fagemo, Kaliyev, etc. can turn into top 6 players, then players like Iafallo and Kempe could be moved to fill holes. Now, if the Kings received an offer for an up and coming LD, I think they'd definitely listen, at least on Kempe.

Also, it's absolutely nuts how deep the Lightning are. I have to double check their roster every time I watch them play; holy moly are they loaded.

Iafallo is a UFA after whenever next season starts. And he'll be 27 by then. Blake is quickly going to have to figure out if he wants to give him a 5+ year contract or not. Probably close to $5m per year if he's playing on the 1st line and putting up close to 50 points.
