FSW is soon to be rebranded into Rally sports.
IMO, the problem is that it is expensive to produce a live broadcast of a sports game. Today, the TV company pays for that. Outside of the announcers and some tv talent, the Kings don’t foot the bill and neither do any other teams in any league or level.
So being able to use your equipment for pro, college, HS games across multiple sports is a decent business model. If the team has to foot that bill, then the cost of the entertainment goes up quite a bit for the fans. The only way it is feasible is if the league puts in the infrastructure.
But there are too many built in challenges to seeing that happen. Too many regional tv contracts, plus the national rights. Baseball had their own streaming broadcast service, but it was unprofitable. They ended up selling it to Disney who uses it to power their D+ app.
Bottom line for us sports fans of the major pro and college sports is that you’re basically over a barrel if you are willing to pay. People will use illegal streams, but the people willing to do that are also typically an unprofitable customer if they were paying, so the rights owners don’t care about capturing them. And with advances in tech and regulations, the ability to get a pirate stream will go the way of stealing cable sooner than later.
My guess is that at some point in the near future you’ll be able to buy a streaming subscription for a league and local teams through Amazon Prime Video. They’re already doing nfl games and they are probably in the best position to replace the tv broadcasters at producing the live game stream for the sports leagues at the events.
