Could we still be interested in someone like Krug even after acquiring Maata? I know we aren't contenders by any means, but the market right now seems to favor picking up D for a decent price, and out pipeline is only ok on that.

Besides costing a ton, Krug is going to want to go to a contender.

Would LA be interested in say a Yandle or Stralman for Carter swap? Yandle is a 40-50 point power play defenseman and Stralman a solid RD; for some reason our managements keeps on adding D though

There is really nothing in the UFA market that really fits our needs. We have a Dman locket up for huge money and term so we don’t need Alex P.

if Krug was 2 years younger I bite on that as he fits. I really don’t want to commit lots of money to an older pick mover.

our goalie situation at the NHL level is fine. Need a quality AHL guy to call up for injuries.

If I had a magic ball and new Hall would stay healthy and his play won’t drop if he fits a huge need. Injuries, future decline in play and massive dollars scare me off.

guys on the cheap like Kuhun etc is not really more than a blip and would be a good risk.

I really hope that Blake sits back a day or so and let’s some of the dominoes fall then goes on attack for a Sergachev, Laine type player. We have room and prospects to add a young big name player for the next few years to help bridge the gap between The Kopitar/ Doughty crew and the up and coming Byfield/ Turcotte/ Kaliyev crew.

negative from me

Carter should bounce back this year, is a leader and has a terrific smile

Nope.

1) Yandle is 34 and thus does not fit into the long term rebuild plans.
2) He plays no defense.
3) His cap hit/cash out is $~6.35 million which is first pairing money. He is not a first pairing guy. Heck no in a flat cap pandemic with limited HRR.
4) He is signed for 3 years with a NMC. He would have to be protected at the expansion draft. He'd be a major cap dump that 3rd year if not sooner.
5) We need Carter to mentor the younger players (one vet per line). Carter is a proven good mentor. See that 70s line. Carter's cap hit is irrelevant and his cash out is only $2 million. Signed for only 2 more years. Good leader.
6) We already have Maatta at a lower cap hit, he plays D, only signed for 2 years, and no NMC. Edit: Maatta is 26 so young enough to be part of the core if he does well.

Fair enough: I was assuming Yandle provides a bit more hockey impact as an elite PP D but your reasoning is fine :)

I'm hoping for something crazy, just for fun.. Lol
Sign Hall for 1 year with the agreed intention of flipping to a contender at the deadline. Contender gets a prorated stud, Hall gets to wait till he can really cash in post Covid, we get something decent for him, you get something crazy just for fun. Everyone wins!

Without any additions to the roster, we could be looking at this potential lineup for 2021:

Iafallo-Kopitar-Brown
Frk-Vilardi-Kempe
Grundstrom-Carter-Luff
Moore-Lizotte-Wagner

Maatta-Doughty
Anderson-Roy
MacDermid-Walker

Quick-Petersen

I figure Lias Andersson might finish up his season in Sweden, but whenever he joins the Kings he could possibly play alongside Grundstrom and Carter. Carter is also a question mark, but with the season set to resume around January, he may be ready to play by then.

Some young dmen could also push for that bottom defense pairing spot, depending on the opponent and matchups. Clague needs to step it up, or he'll be overlapped by someone else in the pipeline.

It's also very likely to see Quick and Petersen splitting up the goaltending duties.

I see that team has being a borderline wild card/lottery team. A lot of their success will be dependent on the veterans playing at a high level, and the younger players have to contribute. Maybe it's the optimist in me, but I have some hope in this team. At the very least, they won't be playing a boring brand of hockey.

I dunno, we look a bit cellar dwellerish to me, we really need some of our prospects to pop.

We look to need another two top 6 wingers and another top 4 dman to be on the cusp. Also its a big season for villardi, to build off of last year and secure that 2c spot.

I see Luff in Ontario with his spot taken by one of the prospects. Like Fagemo or they move them up to first line and Brown down to 3rd. Or one of the center prospects and move Carter to wing. And that 3rd d pair spot will just be a constant rotation until somebody claims it.

Might as well roll with what we have and get another Top 10 pick rather than be just on the outside looking in and taking on a contract that won't do much.

I would take on some bad money for 1-2 years if it could get us something of value in return.

Any team that has Frk and Iafallo in their top 6 is a lottery team...

Frk, sure, but a lot of you seem to be clueless about Iafallo, who finished in the top 30 in scoring among all LWs.

His 43 points would make him good enough to be in Tampa Bay's top six. Those 43 points would've been the 4th highest among Colorado Avalanche forwards, and also 4th best among Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers forwards. And he put up those numbers on an offensively inept hockey team.

I've been a kings fan for a long time, don't remember too many teams walking away from free agent day with nothing

So we aren’t a lottery team? Dope....jk

That's not the point I'm making, it just seems lost on many Kings fans how productive of a player Iafallo actually is. What are you guys expecting? If his numbers are good enough to be a top six scorer on what are considered to be some of the best scoring teams in the league, then what does that make him?

Talk about an underappreciated player. Guess some won't know how valuable he has been until he's gone. The guy actually puts on consistent effort and was one of the better Kings in the latter half of the season, and he is continuously disrespected by many Kings fans.
