I think we should keep AI and AA. They are 2 of the only players we have in that age group and they produce. I like the fact AA stood up for a teammate...we could use more of that type of leadership.

Very interesting debate. There is no doubt that losing Mitchell, Regehr, Greene and Williams, warriors all, exposed our core as lees than championship worthy. On the other hand, Kopitar and Doughty were top 5 players at their respective positions during our Cup runs and are still more than serviceable. Whether they will be still be core pieces by the time our prospect pool turns into bona fide NHL players is certainly in doubt, but they still have tremendous value as veterans to look up to and to set the tone in practice and in the locker room.

Our recent losing streak has exposed the roster as lacking in both depth and high end talent. I would say our 2021 #1 pick is untouchable now for anyone not named Dahlin, and we probably need to hold on to all our prospects to see exactly what we have. How then, do we create openings at the NHL level to 'play the kids' while at the same time freeing up Standard Player Contract slots to bring in guys we want from our reserve list.

The answer to both questions is quite simple. Buying out Carter is a no brainer. Jeff looks like he's ready to spend more time on the beach, and the cap hit only hurts next season when we don't need the space. The other player to go will be Iafallo, IMO. If we really desired to keep him, he would already be signed to a team-friendly deal given the weak market for wingers in the flat salary cap era. Alex is what he is and has likely reached close to his ceiling. He is the wrong age given where we are in the rebuild, and he can likely fetch a #2 pick from a contender looking for depth. I think we can say the exact thing about Sean Walker who might bring back a prospect as well. I am willing to be patient, no need to accelerate the rebuild. Our recent play has shown we are more than just a few pieces away from being a good team.

And there it it is....you have NO idea how Turcotte, or Faber will translate to the NHL and you definitely don't know what that 2022 1st will be, but you are turning down a #1 D...because of hope...that makes zero sense.
Yeah, there it is. I wouldn't trade 5 1st/2nd round assets for one guy, especially at this stage. Depth is a thing, just ask the Oilers. They have two of the greatest players in the game today, can't win shit because the rest of their team is a tire fire wrapped in hot garbage.

Depth is a thing....ok,

Tell me if we trade for Dahlin.....where do we lose the depth?

Vilardi, Kempe, Moore, Lizotte, Wagner, Byfield, Thomas, Kaliyev, Fagemo, JAD, Grundstrom, L. Andersson, Madden, Kupari, Dudas, etc

Not to mention other drafts coming in, other FA, etc....

Where do we lose that depth?

Makes me way more hesitant honestly.

Fair enough...to me, it doesn't, you do that in a heartbeat. Chycrun is a known commodity, and he is a helluva defenseman, without Turcotte...LA still has Byfield, Thomas, JAD, Kupari, as C prospects.....I'm good with that if it means adding Chycrun or someone of his caliber.

Doubt AZ does it like the other poster said.....but....if it's there, you take it.

That is the exact opposite of what Blake should do. You know why? Because he tried it for two years when it was blatantly obvious that it should have been torn down.

This rebuild is two years behind where it should be because Blake and Robitaille misunderstood what made the previous team successful. It just wasn't this core, it was the ridiculously deep and driven pieces around them that lifted them up to a championship level. When they left - without a single asset in return - the core was exposed for what it was. Mediocrity.

Kopitar and Doughty have doubtlessly been informed of the direction, and even if they haven't they know far better than us what's going on. They signed their deals on a team that was heading straight down into a rebuild, there is no reason whatsoever to try and maximize their last few years.

We are in a completely different position than two years ago, when we did not have a stockpile of assets. Of course, we are not going to trade assets for aging veterans (e.g., Kovy) to try to go on a run, but we can identify certain targets for UFA signings that are in the high-20s age range and fit into our plan, or to acquire in a trade (e.g., deal for Dahlin). We can also afford to use our 1st rounder for a trade package, because whoever we get in the draft won't be ready for several years, which would mean that we wasted good years of Kopitar and Doughty simply because there is a theoretical possibility that our 1st round pick this year could have been a good player.

This, I wouldn't necessarily go high 20's, mid 20's would be as old as I think we should go.....having said that, it's tough to make those trades without a massive overpayment, unless you fall into a PLD situation like in Columbus, or a team in cap trouble, ala Tampa etc.

Turcotte is the energy guy the Kings desperately need in the top 6. Can we not trade him for some damaged goods please

Any deal for Eichel would require a health assessment to see what type of injury we are dealing with, but I would hardly call him "damaged goods." Eichel is a legit no. 1 center and proven goal scorer. We should only be so lucky if Turcotte is half the center Eichel is currently, and he is young. If the cost for Eichel was all of our blue chip prospects, of course the answer is no because adding only Eichel won't make this team into a contender and maybe not even a playoff team. But if we can trade some of our prospects for Eichel, and keep Byfield, Kaliyev, and other lesser prospects (while trading Turcotte, our 1st, etc.), then that won't harm our depth or future.

In my opinion, the biggest problem with this team is not depth, its a complete lack of high-end talent. We have plenty of depth in guys like Kempe, Vilardi, JAD etc., who can move around lines 2-4, but we don't have any elite talent other than Kopitar and Doughty, and they are aging.

The biggest problem with the team is lack of balls and it goes straight down through to Ontario. Lot of skill, very little compete.

If the Kings don't retain AA then they have zero iq

The idea of keeping players like Richards and Carter longer than we should have is a problem this fan base still hasn't wrapped its head around. A simple concept, if an aging player has good value on the market, trade them before they have no value. If Kopitar has good value on the market, and we can get a younger top 6 center then the Kings should consider it. It will be a temporary setback but the Kings need a contingency plan if Byfield doesn't pan out. And Kopitar doesn't have much left in him. You can make an argument for keeping him but you can also make an argument for trading him. The only vet I'd keep is Doughty because of our D situation and he's shown real passion this season.

There's a real argument to be made either way. And I'm just on the trading side of it.

Let's pace ourselves. There's no need to go out and shoot our wad of prospects on the first good-looking NHLer that comes along in some sort of hockey bukkake.

While I agree, I do think there's a big gap between the youth and the vets. Getting a solid nhler who's in between with some experience is not a bad idea. Rather have the devil you know rather the devil you don't (not knowing how prospects will translate into the NHL)

Who is going to give a young center for Kopitar with his contract? He has a say on where he goes as well...
