On the latest 31 thoughts podcast, Friedman was speculating that the Kings are done rebuilding and are going for it.

He specifically mentioned us being interested in Saad.

Saad or Schwartz or any free agent makes more sense than Eichel. Keep your assets, add talent to insulate the kids and keep moving forward.
I wouldn't mind Saad on a two year contract.

Iafallo - Kopitar - Arvidsson
Saad - Vilardi - Brown
Kempe - Byfield - Kaliyev
Moore - JAD - Tkachyov

*Kupari, Andersson

Hard pass on trading for Seth Jones.

If you have perused his wife's Twitter account then you'd understand that California is the absolute last place on Earth his wife would allow him to sign.

This deal would be Milan Lucic all over again.

Who is his wife? I agree though, never underestimate the influence of a disgruntled wife.

Yes, pass on a major defensive upgrade because of Twitter. Embarrassing.

Saad's shooting percentage this year was 22.1%. His career average is 11%.

The 28 goal pace he scored at is not sustainable.

Whoever pays for him now will likely be overpaying after an outlier season.

Agreed, but he is good for 20 goals regardless. For me I am not sure if the increased cap cost would be a huge upgrade from what AA brings. Same point totals this year, playing on 2 very different teams.

Saad is a better player but overpaying him, I don't know if I would do that.

Smyth was signed to help Kopitar. It’s become a tradition.

I'm surprised we actually got 2 seasons out of Captain Canada before bolting back to his homeland.

In 2019 him and his wife sold their mansion in Edmonton and bought a place in Nashville. His daughter wants to be a country music singer while he plays in a beer league with JP Dumont and Brett Hull.

Speaking of their former mansion in Edmonton... nice little backyard rink, eh?

You can't argue against the trade itself for Smyth. They gave up nothing for 100pts in 2 years.

Dude was so good in and around the net. Only player like that that could come close to the way he played is Hörnqvist.

I keep bringing up Mike Reilly as a UFA target for the Kings, but no one seems to have any interest.

Did you know Reilly had the 8th highest 5v5 Points Per 60min in the NHL among all Dmen?

And he did it while having lower offensive zone starts than anyone above him.

Reilly is a 27 year old LHD that can move the puck. Sound like something the Kings need?

In free agency everybody wants the big names. But those types of signings almost never work out.

The key to success in free agency is recognizing undervalued players that suit your teams need. These are usually players that nobody is talking about.

Speaking of Ryan Smyth... I forgot this plug demolished him after scoring a goal back in 2017 during a beer league game.

Ok back to news and rumours!

Anders Lee too, but small crowd absolutely.

I like Schwartz over Saad but I agree on your point overall. I’d just like to see them get an established more physical player with either of these guys. Coleman or even Foligno would really make a big impact with our lack of physical game.
