My issue with Hoven isn't the guy himself. I follow him and will read certain articles. I appreciate someone covering the Kings that does have some connections and is able to get interviews with players etc.

The bolded, however, is my issue. While there is a faction that dismisses everything he says, there is a faction which you fall under that believes everything he says. He is far too often wrong about the big things--like trades and signings--to use him as the basis of an argument pertaining to these things. A huge part of your anti-Eichel trade stance is "Hoven said it isn't happening". Cool. That means jack shit. Now, if you want to talk injuries or call-ups from Ontario, go right ahead and use Hoven as a source but he's under the Mendoza line with no homeruns when it comes to big ticket moves.
Well said

I appreciate Hoven even if I don’t like what I perceive to be a bit of arrogance. Players legit know him and come on his show. Best insider we have. Doesn’t mean the team will let him go wild. Information isn’t stagnate either, I give him a pass when things don’t come to happen.

I'm not giving information. I'm discussing how he acts sour when he gets scooped or when people call him on his act. He's thin skinned, acts like his information is rock solid and flips out when people call him on his rock solid blunders.

I love his blog and the pod, but this type of information is his bread and butter. You cannot expect to go from A ball to the majors without playing some AA and AAA. Does he really expect to be the guy that is going to break national deals or are they going to use him to force an agenda? Look at the track record. He's wonderful at breaking team insight but not transactions. He has to know that, so why does he get so upset and make excuses when he is wrong?

Dang, I really do not see literally any of this.

He's never come off to me as anything but personable and on 'our' level despite having some obviously inside info/connections. It's always read/sounded to me like a fan-run show, not a lecture. And I've never seen him get upset about being 'wrong' because I've also never seen him present anything as iron-clad/certain. And finally I guess I'm also amenable to the idea that 'things change' in short notice (someone mentioned the Kahun miss above where to me that's an easy "things changed" moment). I guess maybe I'm not listening as closely or putting as much heavy emphasis on it but I'm just happy to have some info from a friendly non-jackass. Just my humble opinion though.

I don’t know. At times I feel like he talks down to the fan base. Again tho, he is talking to the mob. I can see that getting old.

Its opinion often in the guise of information. Take it or leave it. I'd rather have it than not, but the mix of KPs write ups and the interviews are information - his opinions get reported in the same manner and with the same context, which is the only issue I have with the site. But, I am a grown up and can place value or trust in whatever I choose, so it's just really no big deal to me.

He does come off sounding a bit arrogant sometime. But again its tweets and that may not be his intent. Hard to read a real message sometimes without voice or image. End of the day, it's all good, just glad there is someone talking Kings puck!

No. Like I said, I like his blog and the podcast. I never miss any of them. It's the twitter. It's better if he just didn't respond to people. If you get something wrong, just respond to questions saying you can't get 'em all right...or don't respond. You can tell he knows he got duped by his source in by way he responds. He's flabbergasted and bully's the twitter user (when you know the frustration is at the source).
It's really cool to get an inside tip. It's fun. It makes people feel empowered. You can fact check all you want but if you sit back, analyze your own history and read the tea leaves you will know that that insider would rather give the REAL inside tip to the national guys who will give them a kick back in the future. The softball stuff goes to the friendly blogger. The fall guy stuff......that also goes to the fall guy because they have been programmed to hit softballs. You are going to swing and miss at the fastball and not realize what happened.

Gonna be honest I completely forgot about Tkachev. I'm honestly pretty excited to see what he can do, the kid looks like he has loads of skill and if he can transfer even some of that to his game in the NHL I think he'll be a good middle six winger for us.

I hope so. Kings could use a surprise star honestly. Guy has shifty skill.

He blocked me on Twitter for saying "can I take that to the bank"

He shat on me for asking him if there is any chance that, like many other news sources could be feeding him disinformation. I made sure that it was not condensending. He said. "JUST ABOVE ZERO CHANCE. If the national media trusts my body of work, you should". (Referencing his report being picked up nationally.
I responded by saying "so you're saying there's a chance". -Dumb and Dumber.

Other followers posted his record of failures at posting big news given to him by his trusted sources.

He went off on everyone implying that we don't know media. As you can imagine, that started the Twitter fire squad. I'm now banned for opening up an avenue for others to fire missiles.

This 1,000 times. This is how everyone should take it. Those that are like "he was a dick" or "he's cool" are too emotional.

He's not even close to gospel. Tread lightly on the "Hoven said" shit but also don't completely dismiss him. Just use common sense. If you believe everything he says or never believe him, you're stupid anyways.

And if you ever call him "The Mayor", you can go f*** yourself.

I guess that's why I'm missing it. I just don't have a strong emotional response either way so it's my bad observation skills but that's why I wasn't understanding how he could be so polarizing. Like I said before, I'm just happy someone's providing info and a level of access as well as good discussion.

FWIW it does seem like there are quite a few startup outfits joining the fray and I'll post them here in the morning too. Not to pull people away from Hoven or anything, but more viewpoints are good and maybe the folks that doesn't like Hoven's style will enjoy the others.

I was the same way with Hammond though. "Hammond says". Great. Hammond was a PR instrument for Management to have the fans buy in to whatever they are doing.

For what it's worth, which is nothing, my degree is in journalism. A journalist, Hoven is not. That said, he is a die hard fan like all of us and he has some sort of connection(s). He is ancillary info and there is nothing wrong with that. When posters base their entire persona upon "Hoven said", that is a problem.

Funny enough that was my major for a while too, and maybe that's why I don't get all amped up about it. I think people in general have a hard time separating 'journalists' from fan bloggers/other coverage. There's often a large difference between a paid professional largely reporting facts while editorializing opinions to some degree, like Dillman, vs. fan bloggers, even those with access. And often it's just in the degree of discretion used to report rumors and to what degree their opinions will be 'strong.'

bunch of kings rumblings.

Trade packages for Seth Jones: What the Blackhawks, Avs, Kings and Flyers could offer the Blue Jackets?

They seem to be saying the kings are back in on eichel. Plenty of kings discussion.

I've always thought this "ducks are after eichel, NJD are after Eichel" garbage was a pretty stupidly transparent way for Buffalo to drive up the price by using geographic rivals, really hope no one falls for that (unless i'ts NYR).

I'll just say I trust what Hoven reports and what he tells me. It's interesting and I like seeing things evolve and change.

That said, things do change. The information is not to be treated as gospel. However, I do think he's pretty consistent as far as general team direction, such as saying no to players like Eichel, and smaller but significant moves are realistic. Byfield got his six games, as the Kings wouldn't burn a year of his contract. We had several prospect profiles ready right before the draft outside of Byfield (to which he never wavered in saying Byfield was their guy, despite several other people saying the Kings were interested in Stutzle). I don't have time to have 100+ articles waiting in the bullpen.

That said, there are Kahun's too.

He does take a lot of pride in providing valid and/or interesting information to fans. He works very hard to stay as up to date as possible. And frankly, we're still learning and MM is still growing.

I just want to reiterate I'm saying all this with the intent to encourage independent thought. Hopefully you'll find the information presented as a good basis to help you form your own conclusions.

I read a trade rumors article that he claimed it would feature the rumored players that the kings are interested in and basically it didn't mention any names and said to tune in on the podcast for more info. I asked him "do we have watch the YouTube video as well for you to finally mention them?" Then he blocked me LOL. I'm not fan of clickbait

I guess it’s not their fault right? They’re just podcasting and blogging and then Penner Pancakes happens and they’re putting the guy on the broadcast. Suddenly, fans and enthusiasts are getting press passes and you have one guy saying Jack Johnson should go to Edmonton and play forward, and the other guy getting pissy on Twitter when people call him out for being dead wrong on Iafallo (among several other things).

The Jones situation is interesting.
CBJ really wants a center.

Philly wants Jones can offer up Nolan Patrick who missed a bunch of time with injury.

Chicago is intrested. Have to imagine the ask is Dach. Are the Hawks that intrested.

Kings have centers. CBJ needs centers. Kings need a LD. CBJ starts asking about Vilardi or Turcotte, have to believe the Kings' focus would be on Werenski over Jones.

CBJ may just need to fire up that tank to get a 1C in the next 2 years at the draft.

I really can see Colorado taking a swing and moving Girard or Byram to make it work. Having a top 4 of Makar-Toews / Jones-Girard is insane.

What a strange career for Quincey, really broke out here then basically just hung on for a long time. He's "only" 35, could still be playing, most recently played in Finland.
