Honestly the only one of these online scouting staffs worth paying particular attention to is hockeyprospect.com.

Don't always agree with their rankings and I think they generally put too much emphasis on intangibles and effort level, but they are far better than guys like McCagg, Pronman, Scouch, Button, Wheeler, Bader, Kournianos, etc...

For what it's worth they had Stuetzle 2nd, Sanderson 5th, Greig 14th, Jarventie 74th, Kleven 71st and Sokolov 109th.
I enjoy McCagg. It’s basically like a better version of Bobs list. He’s still got NHL team biases. And so do the scouts. But I mean. At least there are reasons to why they have players high and others don’t. I don’t always agree with him. And he’s a shameless Habs homer. But his lists and write ups are actually pretty interesting.

Small market media bias? From a guy making YouTube videos?

I think both large and small market media’s prefer to dump on Ottawa vs Toronto. Opinion aside subscribers are more important than accuracy.

It’s more valuable to pump the tires on Blake, Clarkson, or even JT type signings than to criticize their obvious faults. Inversely, dumping on a rival to a large market rings well for your audience. All forms of media just mute their mistakes.

Yeah I don’t know. I don’t think that has anything to do with scouchings reviews.

I like McCagg's list. Pronman is getting better too. Robinson I am okay with as well. They all seem to learn and are starting to not over rely on their biases. Pronman is just one side of the spectrum but his mea culpa on Tkachuk very soon after he entered the NHL was a good read. In assessing draft lists you should have a mix of backgrounds/biases and average them out. Eliteprospects doesn't do that AFAIC. A lot of people who see the game the same way. The problem with Consensus rankings is they do no quality assessment (excluding Bob) so I don't even look at them

It’s trendy to be smarter than or scouts. Some folks think watching hockey makes them good at evaluating talent, but anybody can watch a bunch of kids skate around.

The real talent is to be able to pick which kids can play NHL hockey, and do it consistently enough to be paid by an NHL team to do it, before the draft.

The Sens are reminding me of the Jays, although the Jays might be a couple of yrs ahead of them, in that they are stockpiling a number of very good young players & will soon have depth at every position. They have a number of tradable assets to secure that missing piece(s) or trade for more picks/prospects (assets) to build a future team for a deep playoff run. While it clearly won't be this yr, they will soon be in a position in the next couple yrs to challenge for a playoff spot & after that look to add the missing pieces for a long playoff run.

Agreed. Might be better to just identify one player and try to negatively compare him to everyone from prospects to retired players.:sarcasm:

Oh I don’t like Wolanin either ... at least at any significant contract value, just wait if we hand him a $26 million winning lottery ticket.

@SensProspects
Vitaly Abramov is out of the lineup today with an injury. It's the first Liiga game he's missed since joining Jukurit, where he has 5 goals and 7 points in 6G

Todays games

Wilkstand with 2 mins for slashing in a 2-1 loss
Engstrand not in Malmo's lineup again. lost 6-2
Balcers Stavanger, he will play against former 67 Dante Salituro who has 3g 4a in 9 games for Narvik. Stavanger won 6-2 Zero points for Balcer.
Stutzle's Adler Mannheim play their first game of the season today, lost 3-2, i believe this was not a league game but a cup game.

Not far off how I felt about the picks. I really like the top 4.. after that I would have gone a different way. But like this guy says the work that matters most was done at the top

In before .... I'll take NHL scouts opinions over some random twitter analyst any day. lol

I'll take both! Obviously hope our scouts have some hits amongst the projected (and individually probabilistic) misses, but either way, when all is said and done, I'm confident we will have two top liners and at least two more top 9ers from this draft. Probably another depth player, or two, or three.

I always find it funny that 5’7-5'9 offensive forwards taken in the mid rounds are always considered steals and great value picks.

Round and round it goes.

Seeing that the Leafs won the draft very easily in his eyes is pretty telling what kind of evaluation is being applied.

Considered about the same as Kleven now, neither were in the top 30 NA skaters.

Different eras when looking at the drafts, Kleven would likely be ranked higher had this been 2003.

Kleven is not Weber, obviously, just a comparison based on where they were expected to go. Kleven was expected to be taken earlier.

Weber was slight, on a stacked Kelowna team where he was a bottom pairing guy, and never broke out until his 19 year old season. There were 4 18 year olds from the WHL who made team Canada over him at 18.

"Weber is a tough, physical player who fills the Predators need for a big defender. Weber is most noted for his strong skating ability and his no-fear approach to playing defense. The 6-3 defenseman has the ability to physically dominate opponents and clear out players in front of the net”

Reading that draft review of Weber would be one that most here would be upset at drafting. Sounds exactly like Kleven, though he will not be becoming a guy like Weber.

well, weber wasnt suppose to become a guy like weber. Kleven has the big shot. reading some other reports soe guys actually like his touch with the puck and how he plays under pressure..

I am clearly not a kleven type guy. just trying to find some reports that say something other than big and mean and decent skater for his size. and i have from some i like to read.
