13 mil left to re sign 5 forwards just to make 20 players.
Exactly.

Plus look at their draft pick situation:

2019: No First. No Second. No Fourth.
2020: No First. No Third.
2021: No Second.

But if you listen to Zarkas, the Sharks are brilliant. Oh, yeah, except for their own $1.4M sitting on sidelines this season with Paul Martin.

According to this article: No
I fell for that too. Clicked on "article", tried to figure out where it was from, read it, only to see they answered their own question with a blog posting from Jimmy Thin Skins repeating what Sweeney said at a presser when asked about the second line and Krejci's role on it (playing on it apparently).

Interestingly, I'm just putting the finishing touches on my own article. It's not done yet but I do have a title: "Was that article asking if Krejci was going to be traded actually nothing more than click bait????"

I think it'll be good reading. But a Spoiler Alert for those who can't wait. The answer is>>>>

11 million for Karlsson. Given his injury history and lack of defense I can't believe any team would be that stupid to sign him for so much money & for so much time. Torey Krug's agent must be drooling over the prospects for his client. I don't buy that he would take less to stay here, this is going to be his only chance to hit the UFA jackpot. Even if by some miracle he takes less to stay, Karlsson's contract has set the market for offensive defensemen & Krug will get more money than he would have if the benchmark was lower.

Backes needs to go, there's no way around it. Even without both Johansson and Acciari and no other signings other than Heinen up front, I still wouldn't have him in the lineup. I know getting rid of him is waaaaaay easier said than done, but you can't justify a $6 million player in the press box.

If the Bruins deal Krejci and his 71 points because so many Bruins fans on twitter are butt hurt I’ll be disappointed but the silver lining is I’ll be free all of next May to work on my yard

i see the mindset of dealing him but when you actually look into there's no f***ing way we could get his value back in a deal. he will always be worth more to us than to anyone else.

That contract is brutal, IMO.

Honestly that would be a better article than anything Murph can put out. Maybe he’s into something with clickbait posts though...

I don’t understand the need to trade Krejci. Even the great Duchene didn’t have as good a year as Krejci and he was a 1C all year.

Looks like Donski will hit free agency. 27-year old RW. Good PKer. He'd be a solid pickup if they can't re-sign MoJo. He's a good skater.

His "lack of defense" just doesn't make any sense to me. Anyone that has watched him consistently knows that's he's actually pretty good defensively. Far better than Krug in his own zone.

How do you feel about Ferland? He's in his mid 20's but hasn't played a lot of games so not sure he gets disqualified by that measure. You also said you'd be leery of any power forward a team "lets walk or wants to trade" but again, Carolina wants to sign Ferland and refused to trade him at the deadline even though the playoffs were not a sure thing. If he walks away from Carolina it won't be because they wanted it to happen.
I think his contract won't match his production and I am against it. There will be a bidding war and I have no interest in it. If there was a way to get him on a good contract, why not. However, that won't happen in the FA market.

Disagree entirely.

Neither is Rod Langway, but he is not "far" better than Krug by any stretch, IMO.

He’d be a great signing for someone like Ottawa that can’t attract talent.

Makes no sense for us. Unless you do something like McAvoy plus for McDavid (can’t think of many guys worth McAvoy plus.). But a team who will enter the season with excess cap room could put themselves over the top adding him.

I watched Karlsson when he played for Ottawa. I was never impressed with his play in the defensive zone. I also watched him during the playoffs this year- same thing.

He's never been good defensively. It was all hype.

The 1-3-1 catered to talent perfectly but by no means did that make him GOOD defensively. Just put in a spot to succeed.

Hard pass.

There's a reason he's been traded 2x and Columbus has made no effort to re-sign him.

Reason he's been traded 2x?

He was traded by Ottawa simply because they wanted to shed all contracts, not because of him personally. You also have no idea whether or not CBJ has extended an offer.

I'd take Duchene in a heartbeat. Instead, we're saddled with the useless Backes for another two years.

He was hurt.

That team probably beats us if healthy considering we couldn't take care of a gift opponent that was last in the NHL in January. Sure I'd rather have played a banged up SJ looking back.

They always seem to find nice young players to fill out their third and fourth lines the Sharks are the winners here even if the price is steep.

Man I want us to give Mojo the Eberle deal ASAP so we don't have to enter next year with a weakened team DK and Patrice are getting old.

Lot of negative off ice chatter about ROR and Duchense. Think they proved a lot of that wrong this playoffs.

But its great to pay character guys who are teh slowest in the NHL like Backes instead.

Yes I know he was hurt in the playoffs, quite seriously. In fact I thought the Sharks should have kept him out of the last 2 games he was so ineffective. But even when he's healthy he's not a good or even decent defender.

Not sure if the Sharks can sign Donskoi. Kind of prefer him to overpaying Nyquist.

He could fit next to DK and won't break the bank. I'd trade Heinen for a pick to make the cap room.

Marchand-Bergeron-Pasternak
JDB-Krejci-Donskoi
Bjork-Coyle-Mojo
Nordy-Kuraly-Wags

Looks good to me.
