I really don't understand why so many people around the draft were so low on Dach. Every time I've watched him play he's impressed me. I expect him to become a similar player to Matt Duchene, just bigger.

I don't see the Duchene comparison at all. Some people say he's similar to Getzlaf but I think a better comparison is Schiefele.

No way does the Scheifele comparison make sense. Scheifele was nicknamed Bambi earlier in his career. Skating is a huge strength of Dach’s.

I don't think this is a particularly fair assessment. No goalie just magically doesn't see high quality scoring chances no matter what team they play for.
They just don’t see them 10 times out of 25 SOG. At SKA, it would be 1 out of every 2 games.

Can anyone tell me how Ryan Kuffner looked?

Goal and assist, played with a lot more comfort than his brief stint in the NHL last year. Was hard on the puck and skated pretty well. I am not sure he is more than a dynamite AHL kind of guy, but he has some time. I thought he looked noticeably better and think he might have been worn down in the whirlwind that he ended his year in.

His goal wasn't a very good one, but again I like the progress, it looks like he has worked on some things over the summer. I expect him to play well in Grand Rapids and hopefully provide some goal scoring punch on the second line this year.

I love reading hilarious career defining HF poster reviews after 1 game of shinny. "not sure he'll be much more than that" bahah

Actually, the best part about these shinny games is that you get to see pure skills with minimal structure where the quality level is elevated above junior.

These games mean absolutely nothing. I remember well the year Vesey set the Rangers record for goals in this tournament, and Buchnevich was near invisible. A few months later, Vesey was over his head in NHL games, and Buchnevich had a good season. Boo Nieves was another star with Vesey on that team, and still can barely get any games for our NHL team. After watching that tournament and seeing how the season played out, it's hard for me to put much into these games. The Rangers could lose every game by 4 goals, and there would be no good reason to change our #1 rank among the best prospect pools in the league.

Do you watch SKA games because your posts don't give off the sense that you do?

SKA is a very good team in the KHL, but their defense has always been a liability. Their stars are almost always forwards and goalies. They are close to first in the league almost every season in shots against per game, but that's because they have so much puck possession, not because they are so good in their defensive play. They also in recent seasons have often been behind CSKA and Magnitka in that stat. SKA's defense has always been their liability, and they actually do give up a lot of odd man chances for a team of their caliber. They aren't giving up 10+ grade A chances, like Shestyorkin faced yesterday, but its more than the average hockey fan who looks at the box score of their games and sees the SOG number would think.

That couldn't be further from the truth.

Did your team win? That might explain why you seem to care.

They mean absolutely nothing. It's a preseason tournament of different level prospects that includes 60%+ non-prospects per team.

I'll take my team of prospects over yours, but congratulations on your win yesterday.

Why are you so angry and hostile?

My point has nothing to do with winning and losing. My point has to do with "the games mean nothing". Actually, someone like Mattias Janmark specifically made the NHL roster because of his Traverse performance and didn't get sent back to the SHL after the tournament.

60% non-prospects. Dallas has two invites.. wrong again.

I'm not angry and hostile. You couldn't sense that in my post, but there is nothing angry or hostile about my post. You responded to my post, so if anyone was angry or hostile about this topic, it's you.

I highly doubt any player made a team based on a rookie tournament. Also, only having two invites doesn't mean all your drafted and signed players are going to have much of a chance of ever helping your NHL team.

Tier Three: The Mattias Janmark Tier

Mattias Janmark was supposed to spend the 2015-16 season back in Sweden. The plan was for him to attend the prospects tournament, go to training camp and then return to Frolunda before being considered a real NHL option ahead of the 2016-17 season.
Then Janmark dominated in Traverse City, posting six points in four games, and the entire conversation changed. He was going to spend the 2015-16 season in North America; he was ready, and the entire trajectory changed because of his showing in the tournament.

Denis Malgin also put himself on the Map with the tournament a few years ago. If i remember correctly he scored a hattrick in one game and had multible points in the other games. I highly doubt he would have made the Panters Roster in 2016-2017 if it wasnt for the tournament...

Ben Gleason just last year is another one who was an undrafted invite that earned himself an AHL contract (and a 4 game NHL injury replacement call-up) because of his play at the Traverse tournament.

The tournament doesn't matter in terms of whether a team wins or loses, but it absolutely matters for overlooked players to earn a legitimate tryout at training camp.

That doesn't exactly prove he made the team based off a prospect tournament, but if you want to believe that, knock yourself out.

It proves that tournament standouts have decent shot to also make the NHL especially if you're somewhat overlooked. Just a place where you can showcase your talent and earn yourself a better shot at a contract or a roster spot .

Watching Leafs v Blackhawks.

Boqvist looks exceptional. Very impressive. Haven't noticed Dach all that much but from what I've read, he looked very good yesterday.

For the Leafs, Brazeau has 2 goals today after looking not so great yesterday. Robertson is very impressive. Surprised he slipped to the 2nd round.
