Personally I hope Boston wins for that very reason. I'm not "anti-Canada" but 2002 was the first year I really started getting into the NHL and by that point it had been 9 years since a team from there won the Cup. The whining from there and elsewhere about how "unfair" it was that some southern franchise from North Carolina was depriving great, true, passionate Hockey fans of Original 6 match ups of Toronto vs. Montreal and Toronto/Montreal vs. Detroit, was bizarre to 13 y/o me but was still funny to read. And the longer the drought went the more hilarious it became that Tampa, Carolina, Dallas, and Anaheim all won Cups but not Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, etc. Frankly I'm all for letting it go as long as possible, we've already passed a quarter of a century and near two-full decades (will be so if Toronto loses), why not have it get to 30? I mean, it's gonna get broken eventually, let it go as long as possible.

I'm so jealous of how perfectly built the Golden Knights are. Whether the credit goes to McPhee, the easier expansion rules, the alignment of Venus across the path of Earth, or any combination thereof, they're just about the perfect NHL franchise right now.

A franchise guy up front (Stone) and one in goal (Fleury), four centers perfect for the lines they're on (Stastny and Karlsson in the top six, Eakin and Bellemare in the bottom six), plenty of fast, skilled wingers who shoot well (Marchessault, Pacioretty, Smith, Tuch) and some great role/grit guys (Nosek, Reeves, Carrier, Haula). On D they're nothing spectacular, but each pairing is anchored by a pretty good player (Schmidt, Theodore and Colin Miller) and they keep it simple, playing defense first and getting the puck to their skilled forwards.

On top of that, they have minor-league vets like Carpenter and Pirri to fill in, young guys like Jimmy Schuldt, Cody Glass and Nic Hague, and they just brought over maybe the best player outside the NHL in Nikita Gusev.

We can't follow this model since we didn't have a blank slate two years ago, and we're completely overloaded on defense, but man, that's how to do it right there.

Drinking game: take a shot every time Anson Carter says some version of "The Carolina players aren't used to playing in front of big crowds". He's said it like a dozen ****ing times so far.

Roenick also trying to claim we were "done" because Dougie didn't go 100% on that play that led to the 3rd goal was also something to see/hear. Like, he pretty much said because of that one play, we lost Game 5 and will lose Game 6.

What was that Patrick Roy quote again?

Well, that WAS the end of game 5. Next goal either gave the Canes a chance (2-1) or ended it (3-0). I haven’t heard of anyone asking Hamilton what happened on that play, but i’d Like to hear the answer. Because we all know what happened.

Completely agree with this. Its been enjoyable to watch them squirm every year while some unjust team is able to compete while they're left out in the cold. That said, the second that Canada gets one, the entire country is going to be unbearable on social media. I'm talking worse than current Boston sports fan bad.

They really hit it out of the park the last couple years. I'm honestly surprised they were able to continue their play this year, I thought their complete lack of organizational depth would eventually catch up to them, but it doesn't look like it is going to. I'll be interested to see how that franchise does when things start not going their way with personnel decisions and how they react/solve those problems. But seeing them play well is good for the league. Helps potential investors and owners realize there is a legitimate chance to make money immediately, and I would think it helped play a small part in Dundon purchasing the Canes.

As for our 'overloaded' defense.... I have a prediction that over the next 5 years we are going to establish ourselves as the best defensive team in hockey and we're going to make at least one Cup Finals off the back of that defense. The reputation alone is going to overvalue some of our defensive youth and we may be able to pull off some trades we might not be able to pull off now. And I think we are already good long term up front. Aho-Necas at 1C/2C a few years from now is going to be one of the better 1-2 punches in the league, and bolstered by the play of Svech, TT, and Nino, we are going to have a very potent lineup that will be able to score with any line on the ice. We just have to have patience and let it all come together.

There are tons of Canadians that don’t buy into this “bringing the cup home” crap. Just look at how people reacted to the media now trying to push Toronto on us as “our team” and “last hope”.
