Teams are bad at drafting and trading. Not surprised at all. Management is just so conservative in the NHL. They would rather draft a guy whose range out outcomes is like 50% 4th liner/50% third liner than someone who is like 10% 1st liner/90% bust.

You're not following.... I'm not arguing the 20th was negative... I'm calling out the fans who think that 20th overall pick wasn't an asset of ours simply because it came from the Jets and went back to them... They think all we lost was Hayes and we got Lemiuex and Trouba in return... No that's not accurate... We lost Hayes (as a rental) plus a 20th overall pick for Lemiuex and Trouba under contract for 1 year...

My god I'm not criticizing the trade, I'm criticizing people with Rangers-colored glasses on who think that 1st rounder wasn't valuable or an actual asset of ours simply because it was the Jets original pick... I'm seen NUMEROUS posts from Rangers fans gloating that we somehow got Trouba and Lemiuex for a Kevin Hayes rental... That's not the actual context of what happened and I'm trying to figure out why so many people struggle to wrap their minds around this...
