I have read a comical number of comments today of people thinking last night's lotto was fixed because the top 3 picks went to Chicago and two NY area markets -- i.e., huge American markets. Wow. Yeah because bumping the 2nd biggest market (LA) down 3 spots fits into that storyline. And having Edmonton and Toronto win five of the past, what, nine?, lotteries screams American bias.
The fact that McDavid is in Edmonton should've put an end to conspiracy theories about the draft lottery being rigged.

If we don't move any players but do not re-sign Cousins, or Panik.

Keller-Dvorak-Schmaltz
Galchenyuk-Stepan-Fischer
Grabner-Richardson-Hinostroza
Crouse-X-Garland

That roster won't do much better than this year ...

We need a C. Cousins is probably coming back, but we still need a C if we're going to roll three third lines. Can't be Cousins. Also, I don't think Fischer is going to survive until the season opener. We also need a proven offensive player, bonus points for not being 5'8" and one-dimensional . A C and a W both good for even 15 goals would help make the lineup look respectable.

Well, if you believe the folks around here, you're perfectly describing the situation here:

* Waiting for a legitimate owner
* Waiting for a young player or two to get excited about
* Theoretically, a large "attendance-in-waiting" on the east side of town who refuse to drive west but would absolutely go to all the games with a new arena

So tell me again what's so different? Oh yeah, it's that whole "tradition" thing.
Absolutely.
No doubt few would go through the traffic that I face on weekday games. No doubt there are more Coyotes fans on the East side. No doubt that some of the West side fans are pissed that they would end up having to make the brutal drive from Glendale to the East Valley.

Totally agree. What if we just sign Brock Nelson and call it an offseason? Put him next to Gally and Fischer. If we can't get Fischer going this season start scratching him for Merkely. Put Stepan with Crouse and Garland.

I think Hayton will make the team next season and I think Hinostroza will get a promotion:

Keller/Dvorak/Schmaltz
Gally/Stepan/Hinostroza
Grabner/Hayton/Fischer
Crouse/Richardson/Garland

Of course, I'd like to see us get a goal scorer to slot in the top 6...and we can only hope.

OEL/Hjalmarrson
Chychrun/Goligoski
Oesterle/Capobianco
KConn/Bushy

I've been on the Brock Nelson train for a long time. He has serious warts, but he can also be a beast when he is on. Hits 20+ goals basically every year, has size, occasional snarl.

Still think Fish is done here, too.

This is the same line up as the season that just ended with 1 player added. The same team that was bailed out by Kuemper and Raanta. The same team that dosn't even have one 20 goal scorer. The same team that is terrible on the 5on5. Can't count on Kuemper and Rannta giving all-star performances again to save this team. Need better players.

I totally agree with this. I just have tempered expectations on what kind of moves they look to make. We were roughly at $65.6m this season. We have several guys getting their raises next year like Schmaltz, Dvo, and Chychrun. We're at $63.5M committed already to this roster next year NoT including un -signed/-extendedRFA's (Crouse, Cousins, Archibald, Lyubushkin). Unless we raise payroll substantially, we're over this season's budget already next year with no replacement for Panik.

Schmaltz- Dvorak- Galchenyuk
Keller- Stepan- Hinostroza
Grabner- Hayton- Fischer
X- Richardson- Garland
X

OEL-Hammer
Goose-Demers
Oesterle-Chychrun
KConn

Is $64.4M already... Crouse and Cousins won't come under $1.2M, so we're already needing more cash budgeted.

All sorts of ways to improve the lineup this summer, but they all take money. I bet we hear a lot "needed to make sense", "we couldn't find value", "growth of this core", "Premium" etc

Easy solution to free up space is to move Goligoski.

“We also think we’ll probably get a player we’ve ranked and desire very highly,” Chayka said of the No. 14 pick. “That’s a positive and that was part of our year where we looked at that and some years you don’t want to be on the edges of the playoffs. This year I don’t think there was as much of a downside of being in that position."

“You want to bring these kids up the right way and develop them. We’re not looking to fill any short-term needs with the 14th pick; we’re looking to build out our organization. We’re not against having the best group of defensive prospects in the league. That’d be a good problem to have.”

You just know we are grabbing a premium defenseman at 14 while Caufield is sitting there waiting to play wing with Domi.

I just don't see us adding anyone, especially after listening to the exit interviews.

I think Chayka believes that if the team stays healthy then everyone will have a better year and with the addition of Capobianco and Hayton, we'll have increased the talent level enough without injuries to be a better team.

Just a feeling.

Then we should at least take on Luongo for their 1st and grab two of Caufield/Kaliyev and Newhook/McMichael. One risky prospect, one safe.

Well, he's either an idiot and believes those things, or he has to say those things because we have no other path to take because we're broke (because we didn't bridge Chychrun, Dvorak, or Schmaltz -- which means he's an idiot)...

no disagreement with this...it sounds about right!

Caufield and Kaliyev are both really interesting prospects, pretty insane numbers. American too which we seem to be compiling more and more of too.

Really hard to argue against prospects out of the Nation Development Program as well.

I would love for Chayka to get another 1st so we could get two of either Caufield/Kaliev/Newhook/McMichael/Tomasino

We don't need a LHD and there aren't any RHD that I'd take in the 1st round so might as well pick up and finally try to hit on a middle to late forward that will turn into something.

I just don't think we can pull off the Luongo deal and we don't have any other assets other than good ones to get back into the 1st round.

I can see someone grabbing Caufield in the top ten, maybe even Newhook to help Krebs drop. I could also see Philly taking the risk on Knight to end their goalie misery. Florida seems primed to take a defenseman, could be enough for Krebs to drop. Still wouldn't count on it but crazier things have happened.

You don't think Philly thinks that Hart is the answer in goal?
