henrik was great for a long time. at his peak, we didn't fully appreciate his greatness.

there was a time that he literally stole games and intimidated shooters to the point where they would look skyward in disbelief at what he could do.

now things are changing and his game has slipped.

hes not as good as he was and its hard to watch.

all players fade away.

so you can't criticize someone even if you still love them?
It’s your opinion. You can say what you want so can I. I love Hank but his window to win with NY has passed. He’s 37 his game is struggling. It’s normal for most pros to get worse with age. He can still play very well for weeks at a time but I don’t think he can carry is like he used to. His number 30 will be retired and rightfully so.

I did, as did a good amount here. Dont lump everyone into the group who bashed him every time he gave up a goal. He and Jagr took this franchise out of the gutters and made us a respectable franchise again. When Jagr left this was Lundqvist's team and has been for quite awhile.

Shit, ODC. I've had a little wine tonight, and damn if you didn't nail that characterization of the situation.

See above from @Levitate.

What does it matter when he was in goal for Sweden? He’s aging and has two more years with NTC which if anyone earned it - it’s him. Will it cost the Rangers a SC run? Did he cause the team to miss out on SC opportunity? I just don’t understand the tone or expectations? He’s an aging goaltender or do you expect him to be the same goalie he was 5, 10 years ago?

i have literally no idea what this post has anything to do with saying that hank sucked today but also still loving him and everything he has done as a ranger

Saying he has had a bad game once in a while apparently makes you a "Hank basher" now

I think the problem is that when a younger goalie lets in a soft one, it becomes:

“Man, he should have had that.”

When Hank let’s in one:

“He’s cooked, put him out to pasture”

The apologists and condemners are always going to be the loudest on here, the problem is that the middle of the road crowd gets lumped into fanaticism by the opposing factions simply for trying to have an opinion on his performance.

My view is that Lundqvist is an aging goaltender in a league which is able to pick corners like never before. He’s not what he once was and has bad nights, but he also has games where he faces 40 shots, let’s in one iffy goal and then gets beaten on a deflection or a guy left alone in the slot and people can’t, or don’t want to, see the difference.

Lundqvist gave up 5 goals yesterday and none of them were anyone else's fault. All but 1 were shots from distance that he should have. There's absolutely no excuse for the goals he gave up.

He did not have a good game. It happens. It doesn't mean he's shit. And it doesn't mean people saying he had a bad game hate him.

See now this is just what some people are talking about.

Of those goals, he gave up one that took a wicked change of direction off of a teammate and a perfect screened shot. Those 2, along with the game tying goal are hardly on him.

Can we all agree that based on Henrik's quote of the fact that he was going to START skating again in May anyways so he was using this tournament as a fun way to get back in shape and train for next season. Based on that specific quote, I would imagine he is rusty a she hasn't played significant minutes in quite some time. Even down the stretch Georgiev played most of the games.

Does the entire US roster suck now too?

All I said is that the goals aren't anyone else's fault. I am sick of hearing "The defense left him out to dry". Those goals were not on the defense.

No it doesn’t. You are correct. He’s not as good as he was. I wish he could have won a cup but he joins a bunch of great Rangers who came up short. At least he got to the finals. Hopefully JD and Gorton can figure something out so he doesn’t block Mighty Igor and Georgie.

They were deflections and screen shots, who is at fault? Sometimes the other team does good things and assigning blame is stupid.

This isn't about Hank can do no wrong, he most certainly can and can stink at times, but criticism like "her derr 8.5 million" is kind of f***ing silly. As if, he didn't earn the contract and it's his fault the money was given.

You don't like the contract, awesome, it's still miles better than Girardi, Staal and the 15 other bad contracts/decisions this team has made the last ten years that have actually hamstrung this team.

good for you

when its happening sometimes you dont take it all in. when he's playing like that for that long we come to expect it and take for granted that he will always be the best in the word.

then, over time, things change. he doesn't win a cup. he doesnt reach the pinnacle.

when you have time to reflect, you realize how special he really was for so long even though his team may not have been equal.

we did it with beezer, then richter and now hank. soon to will be georgie and certainly shesty.

its the way things go.

Beezer and Richter aren't in the same tier as Lundqvist.

Lundqvist is a HoF goalie.

If some people, and I would say the minority, weren't able to take that while he was in his prime then shame on them, they really missed out witnessing and taking in what an amazing career he had.

One of the most incredible ATHLETES I’ve ever seen. Period.

Shame on anyone giving up on him after a world tournament he’s fully invested in, but come on, when he plays 1 NHL minute, you’re getting a better and more locked in goalie.

He has one victory left on his mind. Let him stay until he crashes entirely. He will let us know, he will give a helluva learning lesson to Shesty (whom idolizes him) and he already has helped make Georgy who he is. As much as Benny has helped all of our backups, let us not forget who else is also a huge coach and loves to help the team in every single way. He’s always been the captain, leave him the **** alone people.

Wait what dude? the 2nd goal literally deflected off his teammate and into the opposite corner of the net it was initially headed. No goalie makes that save. Another one was a deflection by a Finnish player I believe. And even though I don't "like" the 4th goal (I think it was) he still made two saves and was beaten on the third shot with his team not helping him out at all in front of the net. I dunno that they were "on the defense" (except that 4th one) other than I believe several of them also came off of defensive zone turnovers, but they weren't exactly softies either.

I don't think he had good game, and I think a goalie really needs to have that one that beat him (but as I said it's always been a downside for a goalie who plays his style...you play deep, you give up those corners), but I also feel like people weirdly expect him to save literally everything and if he doesn't then he did a bad job on every goal against.

It's time he turns over the starting job to a new goalie for the Rangers, I won't dispute that. I hope Quinn can keep him to 40 games or under and let Georgiev and Shesterkin compete for the remaining games, and then the year after I hope he's more of a backup role.

Nobody is watching the game?

Kakko playing well again, had a great first period, got the rebound of a shot that hit off the goalie and then it traveled along the goal line but didn't go in the net. Making good passes to his teammates in the offensive zone. That number 82 on his line cannot make a pass to save his life.

0-0 after 2.
