OT: 2019 Football Thread: Part IV – More like the "Football Thread", amirite?

If the Vikings lose on Sunday, Mike Zimmer could be fired and he would instantly become the best coach on the market.

I think the Giants need more help on defense than on offense, and I wouldn't mind having a defensive-minded coach at all. Rhule will probably be the pick at this point, but you have to wonder why they haven't hired him already if he and the Giants are truly made for each other like the rumors are saying.

Zimmer is a solid coach, I'd be on board for this. Obviously he needs a strong OC.

Maybe he could hire Shurmur? :sarcasm:

I had this argument with my friend. I think that it's a red flag how non-seriously he takes the communication part of his job. This was his 2nd season with the Giants and his 2nd stint. But his communication skills aren't on par with a below average MBA student. And if we shipped OBJ for being a distraction, I don't understand why some people think it's not a big deal that his poor communication skills lead to possibly even more distraction. If he didn't come off as a bumbling fool we wouldn't have received a tenth of the bad press that we did for the Barkley and Jones picks. Why do I speak better than the General Manager of a multi-billion dollar organization? I don't even speak well.

Gettleman sounds like a senile old man and uses outdated phrases from another era: "computer folks," the juice was with squeeze," "dance of the elephants," "depends on how quickly the puppies come along."

He's the John Sterling of GMs. Except John is more articulate than him.

It just sounds like he's going out of his way to sound over the top "old school" with an over the top boston accent. He's like the polar opposite of valley guy Brodie Van Wagenen.

Maybe. I often think along those lines but have to stop myself and think that not everything is a grand conspiracy. haha.

Van Waganen just rubs me the wrong way. He's comes off as a con man or the preppy crappy boyfriend of a love interest in a movie.Josh Duhamel would play him in a movie. I don't care what the Mets do, unless they win a World Series, I will not like him.

I don't know who I can't stand more between Van Waganen or Fizdale. In this "error" of NY sports.

Gettleman sounds like a character in an old movie. I don't hate him just think he's a doofus. It's funny how as a kid I remember people speaking like that, but it's not as common whether Nu Yawka or Bawstun.
 
I want Wink Martindale.

As I said before I want a defensive-minded coach. Defense is the main concern with this team. If the Giants' defense wasn't absolute garbage this season they would have won a lot more games, everything else being equal. Now add a decent playcaller on offense and who knows what they could do.

We shouldn't be paying attention to someone defensive or offensive minded. We should be paying attention to a leader of men who will assemble a good staff.

I don't want the next coach calling plays. I want the next coach coaching.

Screw Rhule, I want BB! Won't ever happen. Hate that we couldn't bring even one of Lombardi, Landry or Belichick home.
