1. Mahomes sat his first year for all except 1 game.
2. Nobody has had a Mahomes like rookie year.
3. Only Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have had any season better than Mahomes' last season.

I'm criticizing Jones for not having a Mahomes-like year. I'm just saying that if he did it would have been a safe bet that he's a franchise QB. As such, as with 99.9% of QBs of all time we still don't know.

Yea, everyone looks at Mahomes in awe and amazement, and then looks at their guy and is like 'c'mon, DO STUFF'. Add in the Giants terrible losing record and many casual/fantasy focused fans are quick to disregard Jones as the future. I'm not saying he's there yet, but there were plenty of bright spots this year to look forward to and I hate the 'well Mahomes he ain't' comments

Even Mahomes sat for a year before that happened. There is only one Mahomes. Brees, Rivers, Ben, Eli, Wilson, Watson and Ryan still haven't had 5000 yds/50 TD seasons. What he did was historic not just for his first year playing but all time. I'd say he had the third best season in history after Brady's 50 TD/8 Int year and Peyton Manning 55 TD/10 INT year.

Jones accounted for 26 total TDs in 12 games. Fumbles are a problem but there was nothing wrong with a rookie having a 2:1 TD/INT ratio, 62% completion rate, and passing for 253 yds a game (which would have put on pace for 4036 if he played the whole season. if he had cut out the fumbles and played the whole season he's offensive rookie of the year. Fumbles are the only concern imo.

And the vast majority of rookies you don't know if they're the real deal. I'm not holding anyone to the Mahomes standard.

Jones definitely proved more than a lot of other guys like Darnold and Eli did their rookie years. Like I said if he played the whole year and didn't fumble we would be anointing him as a HOF players.

I was pretty impressed with how Jones looks whenever I caught a Giants game. He showed flashes of playmaking ability, and that he can stand in the pocket and fire a rocket under pressure. Obviously he needs to clean up the turnovers, but having a passable offensive line would probably make it a lot better.

Frankly, I’m shocked that Jones showed as much potential as he did. I thought the Giants were complete morons for taking Jones, but he actually looks like the best pick they could’ve made tbh.

If the Giants make a good coaching hire and can address some of their o-line issues, their offense could be pretty prolific. Their D is an absolute dumpster fire that’ll take some time, but no reason they shouldn’t be a threat for 30 every game if they can put together even an average offensive line.

I honestly haven't been able to watch all the games this year, but how many fumbles are something he should have hung on to and how many were from him getting smashed on his blind side due to the Oline being porous like a sieve?

He's had 18 total fumbles. 6 of them are on a rushing attempt so those he probably should have held onto. He's probably had 5 fumbles where he's hit blind side while in his throwing motion thanks to Solder being unable to block anybody. I recall another 2 or 3 that happened due to Saquon missing a blitz pickup. I think he's also had 2 or 3 from not being able to handle a snap.

Fumbles and fumbles lost tend to have pretty high variance from year to year. Jones has a fumbling problem but I also think he got unlucky with the higher end of variance for both this year.

There were a few fumbles that were pretty random and I doubt will be a huge problem in the future like the double fumble he had this past Sunday or the one where he threw it sideways and was ruled a backwards pass despite his pass being affected by the momentum.

He lost 11 of 18 fumbles this year which is pretty unlucky for him as its highly random which team recovers. For comparison Wentz lost 7 of 16, Josh Allen 4 of 14, Kyle Allen 7 of 13, Minshew 7 of 13, Winston 5 of 12, Darnold 3 of 11.

Watching Saquon block is painful. Its a part of his game that needs much improvement. The O line is not gonna get better in one draft.

The Giants just continue to put their foot in it.

You don't hire a progressive coach while sticking with a regressive GM. How is a GM who believes in hog mollies and winning by running the football going to be properly equipped to value players necessary for, as an example, a coach interested in a passing-based offense?

He doesn't know how compensatory picks work.

Who is your preferred coaching candidate? A lot of them have the same beliefs as Gettleman.

Gettleman has an eye for talent. He just needs the right person t put that talent together.
I was terribly wrong about Shurmur. The secondary never improved from game one to sixteen. Zero pass rush. Epic fail. Offensive play calling was GARBAGE.
I still think he is a good coach.

I've learned that DG speaks a lot of nonsense and I don't know what he actually believes in. BTW, hog mollies are as important in the NFL as they ever were, they still pass block and that was a huge weakness. What blows my mind is that DG never bothered to learn how to properly give public press conferences and represent a franchise with dignity. The fact that he doesn't realize how "4 computer folks" comes off or doesn't care to me says a lot.

Well Allen would have been real nice, especially if we did things properly and also tanked for young this year. A Defence with Allen and Young would have been a heck of a start.....but

I have been impressed with Jones but one thing is for sure...kinda unfair to judge him right now since he has such a bad team around him, especially such a bad Oline with poor protection. As he gets more time with a better Oline i think he will show how accurate and effective of a passer he is.

Am hoping that we go hard for Tackles though In the draft and put that to rest. THOMAS is gonna be big and if we could move up to also get Tristan Wirfs...Oline for a decade with Hernandez's....that to me would be a huge win. Sakuon and Jones would thank the GM

My only problem with O-line is that it seems to me that it's the most likely position group to bust. I feel like there are so many O-line busts out there. Maybe that's just my perception.

I’d hire Bieniemy if I’m the Giants with Rivera gone

Reid coaching tree is prolific and he’s been a very positive part or two great Chiefs teams. Being Andy Reid’s OC is like being in a pre coaching internship.

I feel like he’s a mystery. Reid has a great tree but KC has Mahomes and Reid calls the plays. I’m not sure that’s enough for me.

Jones has to fix his fumbling issues (thankfully that is correctable, and in a lot of ways was getting better towards the end of the year), but as far as playing the position I’m not sure what else you want out of a rookie QB. This idea that a guy is going to come out of college and just light it up like a 10 year pro is just not realistic at all.

He has all the tools to be a great QB in this league. Work on his issues, get him some protection, and continue to grow. He’s proven us all wrong thus far.

David Gettleman did not make things better with his radio spots on Evan & Joe and TMKS back to back. He sounds like a complete and utter fool.

He hinted that he was basically not on board with firing Shurmur saying “They” made the decision meaning ownership. How are you still f***ing here then???

He also said Williams has been in his office a couple times and wants to stay as a response to what he is going to do about Leonard Williams. Guy made a terrible trade and is going to save face by overpaying Williams who does not deserve top tier money.

Im sure we wont sign the pass rusher from JAX either

The more that comes out in the papers, interviews etc, the more this team looks incredibly dysfunctional. It's past the point of embarrassing. The owners are clearly not on the same page. The GM sounds completely delusional & the potential coaches on the market aren't exactly inspiring. Is anyone actually excited that Mike McCarthy is interviewing?

Sure we have a high draft pick, but other than the 2017 draft, we've had a top 12 pick or higher since 2014 & the team still sucks. We haven't played a meaningful game in October since 2016, and that season was a total mirage. I honestly thought that team sucked too. I can't recall with certainty, but I don't think they won more than 2 games against teams with a winning record. Regardless, the current team still doesn't look like it will be competitive for another 2-3 years.
