I'm very confused about what he is, honestly. He's not much of a run stuffer, either. He's kind of just....there whenever I've watched the Jets.

He kind of doesn't really do anything. Maybe the Giants can set up a scheme for him but he's not very noticeable.

He’s a good run stuffer, PFF has some stats they are tweeting out, although Snacks was much better.

Imo Williams didn't work on himself off the field. Never got stronger. Never got faster. Got a bunch of useless praise about eating up blockers bc people were just so desperately trying to believe we didn't piss away another 6th overall pick on a bust.

We did. Maccagnan couldn't draft, couldn't scout, couldn't trade, couldn't interact with other human beings on a fundamental human level. Ifzik and Mac destroyed this franchise. The only things they were good at? Purposely losing and leaving open cap space.

I'd have a lot more vitriol bc I think rants are fun but IDC.

This was the first ever trade between the Jets and Giants. At least the Mets and Yanks have a few trades between them.
Apparently there was one in 1983 where the Giants sent some dude no one heard of to the Jets for a conditional pick, and then the Jets waived the guy shortly thereafter and the Giants got no pick. But it happened!

"The rare New York-New York swap is the first of its kind since 1983, per NFL Research. In that deal the Giants traded offensive lineman Chris Foote to the Jets for a conditional draft pick. The Jets later waived Foote, nullifying the draft pick, but the deal still officially counts."

Trade! Jets sending DL Leonard Williams to Giants

Anyway, Williams is fine. He's good against the run. He gets doubled a lot and deals with it well. So he occupies space, if nothing else. He also seems okay at generating pressure, he just never actually gets there. A pass rusher he is not.

Of course, since the Jets traded him, he'll now post 12+ sacks every year.

I guess I'm not surprised.

Please just hit on like 5 picks in this draft Joe. Add 2 offensive line starters in FA too and turn this team around. It's been a decade. A decade. This is insane. he offense has been bottom 5 for almost that entire time. Please GM. Do job pls

Why is everyone acting like Williams is 35 years old? A 2-6 team? So what? He's 25, if he pans out this is also a move for the future.

Williams is not a big time pass rusher.

Sacks aren't the only measure of pass rush.

@DanSchneierNFL: Per @PFF until this season w/o Todd Bowles (and he's joining a defensive system w/ Bettcher similar to Bowles') Williams has graded out well above-average as an interior pass rusher. They charted him w/ 21 sacks, 63 hits, 122 hurries in 4 seasons. He didn't fit #Jets new scheme.

Though that sack number seems off.

Also:

Tweet from @PFF:

Since 2016, 38.7% of Leonard Williams' run tackles have gone for a loss or no gain, which is second to only Aaron Donald.

Because he's a FA after the season. You're saying if he pans out - he's not going to be asked to be paid like a reclamation project. He's going to want top dollar. It's already been a topic of conversation for awhile.

Yup. It sounds a lot like the Giants were bidding against themselves too and no one else was interested in this price tag.

Yeah the reason the Jets were ready to move on from Leo was that he had kind of stagnated, yet would still command a ton of money because he's a very good interior defender even if he can't catch the QB. It's not an area the Jets needed to spend that kind of money. But Leo is still a good player.

Makes sense. Getty's pro personnel moves have been incredibly questionable. Here's another one.

This is true and part of the reason I'm concerned. That said some of the moves like Solder were not as bad as everyone says. Not because Solder hasn't been God awful, he has, but because he had to improve the line and he was at least a pretty good player with the Pats. He got overpaid because that's the nature of the beast. DG doesn't have a crystal ball to know that he'll turn into shit. But other moves were unforgivable.

Jets shopping Adams is crazy. I know he wants out but still...crazy.

Boy, you really have to careful who you hire as your GM. Any sport. Cause the next guy is going to want his own players in there. You just end up starting all over.

Damn Adams might really move

Rap saying the Cowboys have called about him and that “the compensation would be massive”

I feel like NFL trades the compensation is always mediocre. The draft is a lot deeper than the NHL, so that's something that needs to be taken into account. I'd say a 3rd rounder in the NFL is like a late 1st early second in the NHL.
