They clearly got it right and it makes the barkley pick look even better. They took the only generational player in the draft then took a franchise an the following draft.

If Jones becomes a franchise QB, then yes, but it doesn't change the fact that the Giants would have gotten EXTREMELY lucky in that situation. As good as Barkley is, you don't take a franchise RB over a franchise QB.

Have said the same thing with the Jets. They got lucky with Darnold it seems, but they drafted Jamal Adams high in 2017 when it should have been Mahomes or Watson.

Beckham is 4th in the league in yards and tied for 13th in the league in catches with Julio Jones and DeAndre Hopkins. The difference is he has less TDs. The reason is he has 1 RZ Target compared to Hopkins 2 and Julio's 4.

He has more catches per game and yards per game so far this year than he has had in any year since 2015.

How has he not done anything?

Is this post for real? Eli is NOWHERE near Drew Brees as a QB.

Yeah Brees is and always has been at least one if not several tiers above Eli. They're not even remotely comparable. If you compared Brees's 5 worst years and Eli's best 5 years, Brees probably come out on top.

I still love Eli though, if even I don't want him starting.

It's one game but man am I hyped. He looked like a mobile TB12, come @ me

Definitely need to see a few more games but remember. What changes with better opponents? I guess maybe the coverage by the CBs improves and maybe they read him better which leads to more picks but it’s not like Tampa had zero pressure on him yesterday. The thing to keep in mind with QBs is it’s not a pitcher or a hitter or a goalie who comes up and you can over time exploit a weakness. He’s ultimately protected back there on most snaps. If he has it he has it more often than not and outside of him having weaker games against elite teams he’s not suddenly going to pull a Peter Prucha or Dontrelle Willis or Hamburgler because the league adjusted to him. I can’t think of a QB who blew up the league for a season as a rookie and ended up sucking

remember how Mayfield was making fun of Daniel Jones...

Not only that, I wish some wise-ass reporter had asked him why Daniel Jones was able to convert on 4th down with the game on the line and he wasn't.

Hey, Mayfield may very well end up being a great quarterback but he should shut his yap about other team's decisions.

Anyone recall Browning Nagle's debut? Nagle came back from down 17-0 and the Jets would have at least tied if the kicker made the FG. Nagle's stat line: 21/37 , 366 yards, 2/0 TDs/INTs. I imagine the similarities end there.

Phil Simms has said he knows for a fact that there was interest in Jones and that he likely was not going to be available at 17, from his sources around the league.

nonsense letting facts get in the way of a good rant

I love seeing all the giants fan hate the pick and said it was the worst pick ever now declaring jones a proven franchise quarterback after 1 game...good times

It's like every single word of praise for Jones must be qualified multiple times or the HOF police jump in and with great gravitas point out he hasn't actually accomplished anything yet. No shit. Everyone is aware it is one regular season game. No one's anointing him the next great one. One game at a time. But for that one game the guy looked legit with all the tools necessary for success in the league and the underdog rags to riches story is intriguing and exciting as hell to follow.

I think most of the comments are more about the extreme negative overreaction to the pick and the immediate flip flop after 1 game than anything about jones not being 'proven' has there ever been a more hated pick based on virtually nothing before actually seeing a kid? and its all meant in good fun, atleast from my stand point lol.

Fair enough. I (naively) took the Giants brass and scouts at their belief in Jones from the get go, and my (their) faith so far has been proven founded. The most cynical of Giants fan though was so dark and negative at the pick and the team's future that this one week of Jones lighting TB up is like the light of heaven piercing the gates of hell for them, a taste of euphoria after a lifetime of misery (hyperbole got carried away lol)

Yeah you guys need to own this. You're not pulling the whole "the haters killed jones but we always believed" bulshit.

The Giants fans were the most irate and crazed. Jets fans were too stunned to move. We enjoyed the couple months that we weren't the ones being slaughtered daily out of the NY football teams.

Lots of Giants fans (on here at least) are owning up to their change of heart on the pick. I personally was/am not that well versed on draft picks prior to the draft, heard the argument after that 'Jones had a shit team and shit receivers' and didn't see it refuted which was enough for me as a fan to latch on to him and see how he develops and keep an open mind.

Don't think I still don't absolutely hate the pick/draft philosophy that our Nipple Shorts GM pulled in 2018-2019

More than happy to eat crow on it though to the highest possible degree.

What? Plenty of QB's blew up the league as a rookie and ended up not panning out. RG3 and Kaep are two for starters.

Sounds like Darnold is eyeing a return @ Philly. I'd rather they be cautious with his return but he's going to play when he's cleared it seems.

Which ones are you taking?

Hopkins
Thomas
Hill
Julio
Evans

Brown would’ve been there too, but...yeah. Personally I’d take Cooper as well but I get if some don’t agree with that.

Weird things happen when you get to be a geezer like me, but I have no idea how I was quoted on something another poster wrote.

Ah damn thats what happens when you sneak posts in at work lmao

The issue a large portion of people had with taking Jones was doing it 6 instead of trading back or taking Allen at 6 and trading up or standing Pat at 17. It's something that can never be definitively proven right or wrong in anyway. The evidence we have suggests he'd have lasted until 17 but it's circumstantial bc Haskins lasted until 14. Other teams had other evaluations.

The majority of the criticism was based on this. Unless I missed something and everyone was saying he'd be a guaranteed bust. Don't remember seeing that often so most of the crowing here seems to be based on a lie
