Generational talents don't matter if you play a position that is important. He also had basically the same year CMC and the same as Bell has had several times. It's hardly unprecedented.
nah bro Saquon is the future GOAT and Danny Dimes has already proven he's the real deal.

That's a fair answer and if I was a Giant fan, I'd have some serious consternation as to which way to go here as you seem to be having.

I think it all comes down to this, and you mentioned it...will Darnold be alot better than Jones will be or will the gap be negligable...that's it in a nutshell...yes?

Barkley is no question a transcendental talent and like you say, he has the tools to end up being the best RB of the last 10-20 years. However is Darnold going to end up being an all-pro caliber type player for the next 10 years? Will he lead the Jets to a Super Bowl? Is Daniel Jones going to end up being more Dave Brown or Eli? That's what it's all going to come down too.

This may be a cop out but when I look into my "crystal ball", I have a feeling when it's all said and done, both franchises are going to feel as if they made the right call and it will end up being a win/win for both. My opinion is Darnold will end up being a Top 10 QB within the next 2 years and has upside for Top 5 QB stats once the Jets fix their O-line and bring in a few more top notch skill position players on the outside which might not happen for a few more seasons.

On the other hand tho I don't see Jones coming close to being an all-pro or close to be a Top 10 type guy I do see him being no questions startable...a Kirk Cousins type of QB which is fine and most Giant fans will be ultimately be happy.

This going to be fascinating and alot of fun going forward for all Jet and Giant fans as we get to see and compare how both the 2018 and '19 drafts ultimately work themselves out and where both our teams end up doing.

Honestly, there are two reasons people would take the Jets package here:

1) Darnold was unquestionably a better prospect in a better QB class. He also played for USC and not Duke. However, while his rookie season was decent for a rookie season he still hasn't proven that he'll be anything special last year. It was his rookie year and he didn't get much of an opportunity. I'm not bashing the season. Jones was obviously the worse prospect and he's done even less in the NFL out of no fault of his own. However, I'm sorry while it's popular to write off anything and everything in the preseason, it's pretty ridiculous to do so. You're still playing a football game against good players in absolute terms (2nd stringers are still in the top 0.1% of athletes in the world). You just can't fake the type of ball placement and accuracy Jones has had. While he's done more from a mental perspective with each successive game, that's going to undoubtedly rev up significantly. That's the question, not his accuracy and not even his arm strength at this point. BTW, I read he has the best stats for a rookie QB in the preseason with at least 30 snaps since 2006 (I think that's when they first started keeping the stats). As much as people want to write off preseason as meaningless, let's put Jamarcus Russell in these situations and see how he does. I'm pretty confident Jones will be at least be a solid starter.

2) Pass rusher is considered a more important position than running back. But Saquon isn't just any running back and he's a great receiver too. He's a generational back. If Josh Allen were considered a generation prospect he'd be taken #1 overall given what his position is. You can find a Josh Allen in every single draft. Barkley was one of the best prospects ever and had one of the best rookie seasons and given the team he was on, one of the seasons period in history.

In the end, it's hard to talk about two QBs with a rookie season and a preseason under their belts. That said I doubt the gap in play and importance will be as big between them as what we'll see between Allen and Barkley.

I don't know how you can say that Daniel Jones will be nothing special given that he hasn't played a regular-season game. I guess I said I think he'll be a solid starter at least, but that's not some grand proclamation.

You're comparing his rookie season to Bell's entire career, come on. Also running back is making a come back pretty significantly. Gurley, Elliott, Kamara, the list goes on. This is outdated thinking. Finally, I'd rather have a generational running back that can get 2,000 yards in his rookie season playing behind the worst line in the NFL for half a year, than a dime a dozen top pick pass rusher. Sure, if Josh Allen was a prospect of a similar caliber, but he wasn't even close. And I was PISSED we drafted Jones ahead of him. This is nonsense thinking and reeks of abuse of statistics.

Also, literally no one thinks this has "proven" he's the real deal. If Darnold had this preseason last year all Jets fans would be creaming themselves. If Jones fell on his face we'd be laughed at picking this bust. It's only preseason works when the guy does well. When he sucks, it's proof that he sucks.

I’d probably rather have Darnold and Allen.

You get the QB and the Pass Rusher. You take that every time. If Jones’s play translates to the regular season this answer could change though.

Saquon Barkley Made Major NFL History vs. Cowboys

Such utter nonsense from a poster I typically respect.

I’m not disagreeing that he is a great RB. He’s right there at the top with guys like Zeke and CMC. I’m disagreeing that even having a great RB makes a big difference to the team. Especially when he’s drafted early to one of the worst teams in the league. And I don’t think the league is changing their thinking much. The Steelers didn’t want to pay Bell. The chargers don’t want to pay gordon. The Cowboys don’t want to pay Zeke.

Hahahahhahahahahh f*** the Colts

Guess they’re not the hot up and comer anymore

Feel bad for Luck though

Edit: When Andrew Luck retires before Brady.

They’ll bottom out this year. Trevor Lawrence will come out early and then they’ll be the hot up and comers again.

Meanwhile your boy Hill will be charged with beating his gf and kid again and he’ll be playing in Dallas come the start of next season.

He did it as a rookie and behind a terrible O line. You think he’s not improving in year 2 3 etc? Crazy post bud

Brutal, colts fans boo luck at preseason game. He must be thinking good riddance Indy.

Do you really think any fans of any team in any sport wouldn’t boo if it leaks that their star player who is still young suddenly retires in the middle of the game with no explanation from him?

the fact that all fans are irrational morons doesn't make it right or not embarrassing

and is it really with no explanation when you look at his injury history? it doesn't exactly need to be a genius to know what the reason was.

Heat of the moment...if I were a Colts fan and my 29 year old, much hyped franchise QB who ultimately accomplished nothing decided to just walk away, I would boo. Just being honest. I don’t blame anyone for doing what is in their best interest, but I would be frustrated in the moment.
