It seems to me there is a clear drop-off after 7, which is really frustrating that we dropped post-lottery. Hughes, Kakko, Podkolzin, Byram, Dach, Cozens, Turcotte could/should all be gone by 8. So far, I see Krebs, Zegras, and Boldy as in a lesser tier than the above named as professional rankings consistently rate the others higher. Already prepping myself for draft day disappointment. Of course there is a chance that someone else (Newhook , Krebs?) climbs into that top tier after the U18 or the CHL playoffs gives scouts a different look.

If the top 7 are gone and there is a tie for BPA, I prefer a scoring winger to compliment what we have. Out of the latter three, Boldy fits that profile best. He seems to have surprisingly good hands and decent skating to compliment his good shot. I like Zegras' potential and Krebs' all around play too. Most scouting agencies have Zegras ahead of Boldy. Looking forward to the U18 to get a better look at Krebs.
I absolutely have Krebs and Zegras in that tier. I do have Boldy below them though.

I'll be really interested to see how Krebs plays with better talent. I saw a bit of him at the Gretz/Hlinka but like many I have concerns that he'll end up as a middle six tweener. We need players of his ink/drive however. What are your top 10?

Again it was pre-U-18 but what about Brayden Tracey (scored for Canada).

Has 0.82 ppg 5v5 (Cozens 0.90, Dach 0.72, Krebs 0.66). Is he worth a 2nd or 3rd? Don't know anything about him.

I think Buffalo takes Krebs if he has even a decent tournament. We're probably looking at Zegras at 8.

I wouldn't mind Vladimir Alistrov as a later round gamble, decent sized kid with skill and speed, put up almost 40 points in his first North American junior season and has come up big several times in the Oil Kings playoff run.

I could see Robertson slipping out of the first round too, I'd grab him with a second.

Tracey is decent, gets slept on here.

Interesting that Lavoie is so low on central scouting's list, he's having a hell of a playoffs.

Nice to see that Heinola has risen quite a bit.

Worst case for the Oilers is Hughes, Kakko, Byram, Turcotte, Zegras, Dach, Krebs go 1-7 and Oilers get to chose from Cozens or Podkolzin.

This is the year to move up a few spots and try to get Byram.
Take Cozens @8 and be very happy.
They would may not be worth the 3rd overall pick but at 8 you can't complain about a big, fast , physical, RHS top 6 forward.

I bet 3 of these surefire top 7 prospects are available at 8 for us.

Lets not forget where Bouchard was suppose to go and where we got him.

I've watched Tracey several times, and most recently against the Warriors rival, Regina....to say the least, I believe he is a perimeter player, and his compete is similar to Bobby Ryan.... seems to be a cerabral player in that he knows where to go on the ice to put the puck in the net, but his board play is some of the worst I've seen from a draft eligible forward this year, so I just don't see his game translating well to the NHL. That said, he was a rookie in the WHL this year, and is rail thin, so he could definitely show improvement in those areas. He played on a line with Langan and Almeida, so he knows how to play with top talent, but next year he is going to have to drive a line on his own because those 2 will be gone. I honestly wouldn't expend more than a 5th rounder on him, and I'm leaning more towards the do not draft than even spending that, but with his production, there is a very good chance he will get drafted.

This is a joke correct? Mind you, picking the consensus #1 does not count.
Probably Yamamoto is the biggest "reach" of the last 10 years for the club, and many here were celebrating picking him. It's easy to look back with hindsight and criticize, but the Oilers haven't reached on a first rounder for a long time.

I don't even know if Yamamoto was a reach, he was ranked right around that spot on pretty well every list as far as I remember. I was just frustrated that they passed on Tolvanen and Vesalainen who were both considerably higher ranked. I think the last 'reach' in the first round would probably be Klefbom honestly, leading into that draft he was ranked more as an early second if I remember right. I was hoping to land Brodin at 19 and Klef at 31 that year, but both went higher than I expected.
