Depends on who falls. It always happens. I would rather see them move up and go after Newhook, Kaliyev, Boldy or Krebs.

I’d love to see us get Kaliyev. As someone who hasn’t seen him play his ranking is confusing considering his numbers . Numbers indicate a top 5-10 pick , what’s the deal with this kids ranking

I don't know, but there's guys picked later than 22 ever year who turn out to be good top 6 forwards.

These guys come to mind:

Boeser 23rd
Pastrnak 25th
Konecny 24th
Kapanen 22nd
Kuznetsov 26th
Hayes 24th
Palmieri 26th
M Richards 24th

Agreed. Hoping with our new drafting philosophy we draft a top 6 player for a change . So far the last 2 drafts are promising considering how many draftees have signed already . Guess time will tell

Burn a year on his ELC when bridge contracts are pretty much a thing of the past. Great.......
It comes down to some people wanting to see better hockey faster. I never once said I was in favor of it or against it only there is a reason for it.

Also it was only if he was ready for the nhl. I wonder why people get so touchy when it was a best case scenario type question

It was an idea. I didn't say it was a good idea.

We should just take into account the development of an 18-year-old in mind. Maybe he'll be fun to watch, but I'd like him to be a great player for a long time. If an extra year in Juniors will help him physically and mentally mature, the Kings should give him that time. If he's ready like Doughty was, then great! That takes a rare talent.

Ya'll think Byram can play right away?

I mean... he's probably already better than Phaneuf and Forbort..
I don't think he should play right away. There is no need to rush him. Bernier was better than LaBarbera, and Lombardi sent him down. Byram is only 17 years old. Let's not ruin his future just because he is better than Phaneuf and Forbort.

The question was he ready ? Your answer is assuming hes still can develop and mature which means the answer to the question is no which is fine and i probably agree but if he can play right away i say do it and get rid of rookie mistakes earlier the better. I would love to see anyone besides forbort with Drew on top pair so maybe I have a bias there. I believe the kings can play him 9 games to figure it out if he can make the team out of camp. The key words is to make it on his own.

I think the only 2 players in this draft that are NHL ready are Hughes and Kakko, but I do think a majority of the top 10 would probably need at least a year and then jump to the NHL. I know this team's mantra the past few years had to be patience with prospects, but you know sometimes you got to take the training wheels off and see what they can do. If they can't hack it yet then oh well send them back to juniors.

I've been on the dump Forbort wagon as long as anyone on this board, so I'm totally with you there. I'm just not convinced that the NHL is the best place to develop most players mentally and physically. It's a huge step from Juniors to even the AHL

As much as I'd love Byram to come in and make an immediate impact like Doughty did, I'd hate to see his growth stunted like Ekblad. Not saying Ekblad isn't a great player or couldn't still improve, but it definitely seems like he hasn't lived up to his potential.

I’d love to see us get Kaliyev. As someone who hasn’t seen him play his ranking is confusing considering his numbers . Numbers indicate a top 5-10 pick , what’s the deal with this kids ranking

On the negative, I have seen: average feet, doesn't compete hard, not that physical, doesn't drive the play.

On the postive: His shot ranks an 80 which is rare even at the NHL level, high IQ, great playmaker, just piles up points.

I think he is like some kids in that he gets bored with the game at this level because he is so much better than most of his competition that he can sleepwalk his way to 2 points a game. He is supposedly coachable though and a good guy though it isn't like he is a problem child. I tend to think that he is going to score a lot of goals at the NHL level. He is like Caufield in that he just racks up points.

He isn't a Top 10 in my opinion though. He is in the next grouping.

There is a nice group of guys at 10-15 that I would love to trade up to get to: Kaliyev, Newhook, Boldy, Krebs and Broberg.

I'm not so much dump Forbort as i am move him down to a place where hes more effective. Where ? 3rd pairing with top pk mins sounds perfect to me.

As for developing him I would love to see Byram in camp and if he plays well give him a few games out of camp to decide. I am in favour of giving him a few games to get his feet wet then decide where to place him. Ideally I want him playing in the xmass jr tournament

I think Krebs is a little overrated. I don't see him as a top 6 forward, most likely as a good 3rd liner which still isn't bad, but not high end at all. Think people are making too much of the "Winnipeg was a terrible team and he was a great captain" story too much IMO.
And his WJC-18 tourney ?

If we get Byram, I wouldn't mind if we went for a defenseman again with our 2nd pick. Defensemen take longer to develop - if the best player available when we choose again is a defenseman, go ahead and stock up - we can always go more forward-heavy next year.

Byram will be gone at 5; I just hope Turcotte will still be there, if not than Zegras or Caulfield

I’m hoping we stay away from Turcotte his injuries scare me after the Vilardi debacle . Also hope Turcotte goes to Hawks and Byram falls to us at 5 as I get a sense teams know who other teams are targeting and picking and I strongly believe and hope Byram is there for us at 5 . Top 4 of Byram , Doughty , Anderson , Durzi/Clague would make us have one of the deepest defense Corp we’ve had in along time
