You are being extremely generous with 60%.

Local coverage guys would barely watch outside of their own teams, national guys in Canada are only focused on the Canadian teams and I would be surprised if the national guys in the US watch more than a handful of games by teams outside the major markets.

I would guess a pretty healthy majority of writers who get to vote are grossly unqualified to do so based on what they actually watch. Most probably are heavily reliant on stats with minimal viewings of the players.

I mean, the writers vote on the Selke. How many writers actually watch enough of Barkov to have a legitimate grasp on his game? How many writers in the east actually watch the Kings to evaluate Kopitar?

It may be their job to watch hockey, but there's no way anyone is watching enough of all 31 teams to properly evaluate something like a Selke winner. Classic popularity contest award, but at least it seems like Couts is a pretty popular kid these days.

Uhh ohh... you better be careful because you're starting to sound like me ;)

Going along with that hypothetical number, even 40% can be the difference between the right choice and the wrong choice, even if the other 60% are responsible and do their homework.

But personally, I think you’re being optimistic/generous. I think there’s a very small handful of good voters but the majority are idiots like our beats. I don’t buy for a second that the average local media guys are doing their homework and watching a significant sample of other top players. I think most go along with hype, reputations, storylines, and basic stats.

I’m pretty sure the only reason ANA wants to get rid of Kase is because of the injuries. He’s a damn good player
Oh I agree he is.

If we could add him, trade JVR...sure...have it. Make him the 3rd line RW, bring up Frost:

Farabee Couts Jake
Giroux Frost TK
Laughton Hayes Kase
NAK Raffl Pitlick

We have a terrible history with injuries. Can we just pump the brakes on taking the chance here. Maybe just this once.

This guy is pretty plugged-in so I thought I’d share his thoughts on the Flyers TDL potential moves:

Not a fan of Forbort at all. Brodin intrigues me though. No idea what the Flyers would have to give up to get him.

We’re going to be bouncing just back and forth between wildcard and last place for the playoffs, and we’re going to grab an over priced rental that will not do anything but hurt our rolling rebuild.

its going to be hilarous when we trade ghost for ol fat Buff...

The No. 1 approach is to chuck turds — excuse me, “funnel the pucks” — for screens and rebounds. On the PP. In the years of our Lord, 2019-2020. That was the preseason game plan. We know most of this from watching, but it’s nice to have incompetence confirmed at the source, with a not so subtle whiff of galaxy brain pride. D to the o to the ooooomed.

The Flyers' biggest problems on the PP are zone entries and unforced errors (passes in skates, muffed pucks).

Their PP is actually improved from last season. 19.8% vs. 17.1%.

Our incompetent staff clearly didn't pay attention when they were last employed and didn't do their research after getting hired. Any NHL coach who doesn't understand how good the Flyers PP has been for a decade isn't doing their job properly and if they don't understand why it's been so good then they don't have a clue what they're looking at.

We're in serious trouble as an organization with these guys in charge. We're managing to overcome the incompetence right now but that won't continue forever and this sabotaged PP will lose us games, which could easily cost us a playoff spot. Then, if we do get to the playoffs, playing with one hand tied behind our back is going to screw us. This team isn't good enough to handicap themselves and still be successful in the big picture. Taking one of the teams strengths and turning it into a weakness is some truly incredible stupidity. We have the top scoring PP forward of the last decade and one of the best PP defensemen. Wasted.

And this is just one problem of many.

What's really depressing is there's no end in sight. They could all be here for years and there's so much damage they can do while here.

We're on a 99 point pace after losing Patrick and Lindblom, and Hart struggling.
I'm sure a Real HC would have us on a 110 point pace with a team that had 86 points last season.
