For any honest people wondering...
To start, nobody ever said "JVR is to blame for Giroux's lack of points".
It's true that he's missed chances that Giroux set up for him and that means Giroux doesn't get an assist, but that's not the same thing as being blamed. Every player whiffs on chances and many players have whiffed on chances set up by Giroux this year. That's why he only has 2 primary assists at 5v5 this year... which is clearly a fluke since he's obviously our best passer. It's just bad luck for him, not really the other guys faults or a representation of their overall play.
JVR's shooting
12.09% at 5v5. That's not bad at all and it's pretty close to recent his career norm, but even that means that
87.91% of the time his shots don't go in. It just so happens that many of the chances that Giroux has set up for have fallen inside of that
87.91%, instead of the
12.09% that ends with a goal and a point for Giroux. That doesn't mean that JVR is bad or that he's playing bad this season overall, it just means that Giroux has been unfortunate... aka "unlucky".
As
@Tripod pointed out, JVR is doing a good job of scoring at ES and it's the PP that's hurting his goal totals. We all know the problem with the PP, which is out of the players hands, so people blaming JVR for not hitting their arbitrary benchmark of 25 goals, as if that means he's playing poorly, are not being reasonable in their complaints... hence "irrational".
So, as we can all see, there's no contradiction here.
