Blame - "To consider responsible for a misdeed, failure, or undesirable outcome:"

When one claims Giroux's lack of production is on linemates resulting in an undesirable outcome...blame

When one defends their favorite player by posting stats tirelessly to demonstrate that he is doing nothing wrong but the other players "failure to convert" has affected him ...blame

At this point, please reference first sentence to comprehend what blame means before attempting to absolve one's self with a statement like "Nobody has ever said JVR is to blame for Giroux's lack of points" That is exactly what was done, by definition

Then, when one follows that up and criticizes the coach for making those lines and putting those players together, and cites usage adnauseam as a misdeed...blame

And just to be clear; there is NOTHING wrong with taking that position. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and interpretation, of the stats, player, or both, and their affects on eachother. Even the coach's decision. It should be welcomed.

The toxicity and hypocrisy comes when one use's the same argument to defend a favorite player, and defends the other in a separate argument, as a productive player of the team.
Followed by taking liberties on other posters for taking a stance of their own on the "streaky player", but has no qualms throwing the same player under the bus in another argument, especially, and most importantly, when it helps to justify one's insistent attempt at coach bashing.

Truth is gonna truth

If one wants to take an authoritarian approach, perhaps double speak isn't the best tactic

Sans Ashbee I’m 100% in favor of the Flyers high standard for retiring numbers. HHoFer who played a large part of their career with the team.

Clarke, Parent, Barber, Howe, & Lindros.
Yes make the retirement of a number a special honor. There is the Flyers Hall of Fame for those great players who don't make the standards for number retirement.

The dishonesty never ends.

Imagine trying to dishonestly pretend that there isn’t a huge difference between acknowledging that something unfortunate happened and blaming someone for it.

Like if someone drops a mug and it breaks, there’s a difference between “Over the past year some mugs have fallen and broke... it happens” and going “You did this! You broke the mugs! This is all your fault!”.

And then imagine thinking that acknowledging that a mug was dropped means you can’t also say people are irrational for exclaiming that this person can’t be trusted with mugs, is always breaking mugs, and should be removed from the restaurant.

But obviously we all know this. There’s no contradictions, only common sense. Liars gonna lie. The only way JVR is getting “blamed” is if his name is “bad luck”, because that’s what’s been blamed over and over again.

When I think “Propp,” I think very good player, not legend. He was terrific, but not # retired level.

Does Giroux get #28 retired?

I say yes, reality says no. Unless he wins a Cup

They retired Lindros' number without a cup and Giroux has had a better overall career here than him.

He's going to likely end up our 2nd highest scoring player ever... so I think he deserves it. Not his fault he got wasted here.

Giroux will have his number retired. And he should retire as a Flyer although I'm skeptical about that. He'll probably be expendable when his contract is up. We'll see if he's willing to take a discount.

If he does not get in he will be the player not in with the best prime... that is for sure.
It’s really awful that the PP nonsense the past two seasons is going to make it look like he declined earlier than he really did to anyone lazily judging by raw point totals.

He should still be p/pg+ this year and yet...

Not to mention the insane bad luck at 5v5. I’m still absolutely amazed that he only has 2 first assists. Such an unbelievable fluke for someone as smart and skilled as him, who has continually created chances all year.

Giroux’s number should only get retired if he makes the HoF. I like the fact that the Flyers only retire numbers of hall of fame players with Ashbee as the lone exception. I love Giroux, and I think he should immediately, upon retirement, be placed in the Flyers hall of fame, but he has yet to earn his number being raised to the rafters.

Are you blaming again?

If he hasn't earned it yet, he will never earn it because his best days are clearly behind him.

He has had a better peak and prime than ~35-40% of forwards in the Hall of Fame.

No-one in history has EITHER of the:

Hart (3x top 5)
Point (3x top 3)

finishes he has and is not in. Let alone being top 5 across an entire decade in scoring.

If he does not get in then he is almost certainly the best forward in history who is not in.
