But you know it's more complicated than that.

They want to get in the playoffs for playoff money
They want to get in the playoffs for hopefully more season tickets sold next year
They want to get in the playoffs to give the kids experience(which is why Frost should be called up)
They want to get in the playoffs so this PAST summers moves(Nisky, Braun and Hayes) don't look as wastes

We could get a "doubling down" move or 2. I just hope the initial reaction isn't "oh no"...or "wtf".

:crossfing

And I want to find a creative way to not gut the youth and get Stutzle.

I do understand reality vs wishes but can’t help to let my daydreams see a little light.

I don’t expect Fletcher to do nothing. I expect something to be done, and this team would have to shed salary to do anything really.

I guess to go back on topic, I think dealing Ghost - who in reality is probably a likely candidate (unfortunately), will be where Chuck looks to shed salary. Any scenario that involves more minutes of Hagg is foolish. Downgrading the defense, and to do what exactly. Overpay for Tierney or Pageau?

I don’t look forward to what’s likely coming in a deal. I’d enjoy being proven wrong. If he finds a way to make a bigger deal for something truly beneficial and impactful for the future too I’m fully down for that.

I was wrong on him. When healthy, he’s a quality fourth liner.

Very good straight line speed which was a very welcome addition.

I don't think anyone thought much of this move when Fletcher acquired Pitlick. But it was a nice under the radar addition to our team. More consistency in his game compared to Hartman (imo)

I’ll just say this.

If there is a move wasting assets for a declining guy like Getzlaf or Carter, or overpaying through the nose for Pageau... Or trading Ghost in some moronic deal to shed salary and in turn make Hagg a lock to play every night...

The laughing from other fanbases will be fully justified. Thankfully the fans know nothing compared to the genius of GM’s that get into the position because their rich daddy recommended them.

Hockey Central on burning that 1st year on a contract for a rookie(talking about Sandin):

"It's now become better to burn that 1st year off early so that a player only has 2 years to accrue numbers vs that 3rd year. All because players are now looking to sign longer RFA deals on the 2nd contract now. So that burning of the 1st year doesn't matter much anymore."

Hmm that's really interesting the obvious down side being you have less data on the player when they come calling for that longer RFA deal. If they are arguing to make more money based on their potential that is.

"Don't force it?" Are some of you in denial?

We've already "forced it" this summer.
Giving up a draft pick just to ensure we get a UFA, then pay him through the nose
Retain $ on another
A needless buyout just to get a little more cap, then spend to the max

If people seriously think Fletch is gonna, or better yet be allowed to take his foot off the gas as a bubble team i would say guess again.

Brace yourselfs

If they're running on the same plan after losing Patrick and Lindblom for the year then they're too stupid to be doing this job.

I would love the idea of Chris Kreider. He would be so sick in Orange and Black. What would the rangers want? Im not sure. Id give up our 1st or Ghost.
He can net 28 goals a season. He's got the speed to keep up with Konecny. If Patty comes back too. You go into the Playoffs with that. That could make us contenders, If Hart can pick up some slack.
Now u got a replacement for Lindblom. And you still got Frost, Rubtsov, Allison Etc. as depth. If he succeeds, u re-sign him. Maybe move a guy like JVR. And if Ghost is not in the deal, then maybe him.

Kreider - Giroux - Konecny
Van Reimsdyk - Couturier - Voracek
Laughton - Hayes - Farabee
Raffl - Patrick - Pitlick

Provorov - Niskanen
Sanheim - Myers
Hagg - Braun

If this team stumbles coming off this break and we become a lottery team.... I truly believe "luck" will give us the #1 pick with the hand we've been dealt with Patty and Oskar.

I don’t agree with it, but to a degree I do get that desire to “force things”.

The empty seats are evident. The news of Patrick’s migraine issue was known before signing Hayes. Let’s not pretend he was a reliable player to stay healthy even before that came to light.

This year, is essentially what last year SHOULD have been. A step forward, and seeing some real growth in the young kids. Which imo has happened.

It’s unfortunate that they didn’t kick Hextall out on his ass sooner, when it became clear he was fully aligned with Hakstol- amongst other things like fully neglecting the goalie position.

They panicked after last year. I just hope they don’t do anything dumb.

Their depth has been crushed by injuries to Lindblom & Patrick.

They need another stud forward, & center is the best position to make a major two-way impact, plus allow G to go back to W.

Getzlaf & Carter’s contracts expire after next season, so you aren’t stuck with them forever (though you might be able to extend them cheaply if they’re still playing well & want to stay here).

Morgan Frost in 2020 isn’t anywhere close to the 2-way impact player Getzlaf & Carter are. Are we writing off competing in the last prime years of Giroux & Voracek or not?

I believe that neither G or V will fall off a major cliff between this season and the next.

I also believe that if they win a cup it will be on the strength of play of Couts, TK, the defence and Hart.

I am totally fine with punting this year, hopefully get in the playoffs and win a round to gain experience and then starting to really push for contender status the following season. Hopefully with a healthy Patrick and a returned Lindblom later in the year.

I think with the amount of long term uncertainty on the team today it is prudent to not move any major assets until they have a more clear picture of the future.

Your schtick of pointing fingers at people & yelling “liar!” is unbecoming & embarrassing.

In my OPINION your were ACTING like Frost was the better player, or at least essentially equal. Which ignores Carter’s vast superiority in goal scoring & defensive play. You have now acknowledged Carter is the superior player right now, which I agree with. But it’s become impossible to have a hockey disagreement with you without your turning it into some kind of kindergarten, tattle-tale, gotcha! endeavor.

The idea of you calling out somebody for this and talking minutiae while also arguing the use of "saying" vs "acting" is beyond hilarious.

I suppose I just don’t agree with chasing this perceived window that aligns with Giroux and Jake.

Look beyond boys. Beyond.

100% this. I don't even think they are the cornerstones of the team now. Still very important players and hopefully still valuable and productive for years to come, but...

Put it this way if G and V had a really poor series I think Couts and TK could still drag to team to a series win.

I don't know if the opposite is true anymore. Though I still think Giroux has the ability to go bananas and become a beast in the playoffs.

I simply don’t think trading Ghost is anywhere near the big loss many are making it out to be.

He’s an 18 minute 3rd pairing, PP2, non-PK defender with 12 points in 40 games.

Trading him for Getzlaf or even Carter would be an immediate substantial team improvement.

The funny thing is. If they do miss, I do hope that we can at least be realistic as to not put a huge chunk of the blame on G and Jake. Who are still good players obviously.

Need to acknowledge the effects of taking Patrick and Lind off the team, and Therrien’s PP nonsense losing the team some valuable points.

I hope they get in though. My soul needs it hah.

I'm skeptical of your evaluation of what this team looks like without the 3rd pairing reliably anchored. Your last player evaluation was that Stewart would do well and could even chip in 10 goals if given the chance.

It’s not that simple though. Even taking away my distaste for Getzlaf and Carter at this point in their careers, it’s replacing Ghost with Hagg full time. At least that’s the logical assumption.

Friedman should be the one playing instead of Hagg but having chased Braun they overloaded on R handed Dmen who are really only comfortable playing that side.

If they're running on the same plan after losing Patrick and Lindblom for the year then they're too stupid to be doing this job.

Well, sadly, they are too stupid then. Cuz they fired the voice of reason...Hextall

The biggest light bulb should be that they sacrifised the devolpment of Hart all in order to win a few hockey games.
I doubt another GM, coach or goalie coach would have ever recommded or championed that move last year.

Follow that up with the aggressive summer and team of coaches we hired....I'd say that's your answer right there.

Hextall was hardly the voice of reason.

Someone who I actually wouldn't mind buying low on as a rental would be someone like Granlund. I don't know what low is because salary is the issue because we are a CAP team (something like Laughton+Hagg would have to go the other way, heaven forbid). All his underlying numbers are rock solid. He didn't turn from a 65-70 point player to a 30 point player overnight without other statistical decline besides on-ice shooting %. Maybe if not this season, maybe a cheap 1-2 year summer deal, if the market isn't there, with Fletcher's relationship kicking in. Maybe use this as a trial.

Buy lows with potential always interest me more than buying high on a heater.

tbh, I wouldn't be mad if Pitlick was brought back. Shouldn't be expensive to sign at all.

I wouldn't be "mad." But I don't want him on more than a 1 year contract. He might want 2 years. Then, if we're talking salary, would $1.5-1.75 mil sound realistic? NAK is probably an equal> player than Pitlick, and he will likely cost half that next season. Laczynski is more talented than both, but if he signs, he's a good bottom 6 RW. Pitlick is a fine 4RW, but he's still close to replacement level.

Robert Hagg has as many ES points as Ghost (& twice the ES assists) in 9 fewer games played.

That’s not a big loss to the lineup. The D corps hasn’t looked any worse without him, & arguably better.
