Jeff Carter is likely to retire if traded.

Jeff Carter won't retire, so what are the Kings' options...

Jeff Carter emphatically denied that he’s considering retirement, squashing a rumor from earlier in the season that if the Kings dealt him, he would call it quits.

“I’m 20 games from 1,000, so I don’t think I’m retiring,” he said at the team’s getaway day Monday. “I got three years left on my contract. I want to be an L.A. King. I want to help change things around here, but I don’t have no-trade protection so whatever happens, happens. And I never talked about retiring either. Never came out of my mouth.”

Hockey Central on burning that 1st year on a contract for a rookie(talking about Sandin):

"It's now become better to burn that 1st year off early so that a player only has 2 years to accrue numbers vs that 3rd year. All because players are now looking to sign longer RFA deals on the 2nd contract now. So that burning of the 1st year doesn't matter much anymore."

The genius Hexy only gave Sanheim a year in the half in the NHL.

Jeff Carter....the guy who has paced for 36 points the last 1.5 years is no longer a stud.

Maybe we could add to the team...without paying someone 5-8 million?

Carter....stud at a 36 point pace...30 point ES pace.....you willing to trade Ghost for him
Frost....poopoo at a 32 point pace....27 point ES pace....he comes free

Impartial? Hmmmm.

2020....cool...you can see the future? Is Patrick still hurt?

Most likely, yes.

Laughton +4th for Carter at 50%, and everyone's happy. Particularly Stizzle.

In my OPINION your were ACTING like Frost was the better player, or at least essentially equal. Which ignores Carter’s vast superiority in goal scoring & defensive play. You have now acknowledged Carter is the superior player right now, which I agree with. But it’s become impossible to have a hockey disagreement with you without your turning it into some kind of kindergarten, tattle-tale, gotcha! endeavor.
I am sorry if I upset you again by pointing out that I never said Frost was superior....and that you assumed that was what I was doing.

Maybe you should put me on ignore if I cause you so much grief.

I agree. I personally wouldn't trade Ghost until after next season....unless the right deal came along.
That’s the other thing: there is no one available right now worth it to acquire. Who knows who pops up later. ROR is a good example. He wasn’t available until he mouthed off the day of exit interviews.

The Flyers shouldn’t be acquiring anybody right now. If this year did anything it emptied the prospect and young player pool for the all wrong reasons. Patrick’s and definitely Lindblom’s careers could be over. Zamula has what was labeled a degenerative back condition. Vorobyov showed himself not to be an NHL player. Rubtsov still can’t stay healthy and Ratcliffe looks like he is a long long term project. The older college guys need to sign before they can be pencilled in. Outside of York, Brink and Frost, anyone one else look like they have a great shot of being a top 9 forward or top 4 defenseman in the NHL?

Fletcher needs to suck up and ride with what he has.

Their depth has been crushed by injuries to Lindblom & Patrick.

They need another stud forward, & center is the best position to make a major two-way impact, plus allow G to go back to W.

Getzlaf & Carter’s contracts expire after next season, so you aren’t stuck with them forever (though you might be able to extend them cheaply if they’re still playing well & want to stay here).

Morgan Frost in 2020 isn’t anywhere close to the 2-way impact player Getzlaf & Carter are. Are we writing off competing in the last prime years of Giroux & Voracek or not?
Oops....I forgot to mention this:

"Getzlaf & Carter’s contracts expire after next season, so you aren’t stuck with them forever"

That actually is not correct. Carter's deal expires in 2.5 years...not 1.5 like you stated. Just in case you didn't know or thought that's when it ended. Not calling you a liar....just point out the inaccuracy.

Gudas for Niskanen was pretty big.
excellent point. I was more thinking "deadline" deals but you are correct.

But on the flipside, it's why you "could" also look to add someone who makes sense if the cost is right, isn't a rental, doesn't make big money, etc...

If the Flyers lose 8 of the next 12 will Fletcher sell off guys like Braun and Pitlick?

Right now the Flyers have 60 points from 50 games (.600). If they went 4-6-2 they would have 70 points from 60 games (.583).

I suppose I just don’t agree with chasing this perceived window that aligns with Giroux and Jake.

Look beyond boys. Beyond.

Yeah if it's not there we aren't gonna force it with any of the proposed moves. It sucks to see another year of them go by, but I'd rather be set for future attempts than go all in when it's not likely. This has been a cursed year.

That's mighty presumptuous of you unless you've talked to Jeff Carter himself or been inside his head.
Come on. Did you see his interview with Taryn? It was obvious how much he loved Philly & how he wouldn’t veto a trade back. There was no reason for him to bring up how his wife & her family are from Philly. But he was being diplomatic & trying to avoid controversy by saying he doesn’t want to leave LA, either. But let’s face it. He’s getting up there & probably would prefer to be in a playoff hunt, not near the bottom of the standings.

I could see them starting 0-2. The way this team starts slow, can’t feel good about back to back with the pens and avs. After that we have a lot of games we should win. Hopefully the panthers and jackets slow down.

Jeff Carter remains a big, fast, two-way center, great on draws, & is on pace for over 20 goals for as much as you’re trying to discredit his production.

Acting like Morgan Frost is the superior player at the moment is frankly laughable.

the other thing is no one is going to trade star young players, rebuilding teams wont do that, they will get rid of their vets and what fletch did last season was smart because the vets didnt cost much and relying on free agency is a death sentence especially when they are asking for 10 or 11 million dollar contracts and if he struck out, most likely he would although we were lucky to get hayes at a cheap price, this team would probably stuck in the lottery right now.

i mean i get the hate for vets but young players arent cheap either especially we needed the cap to resign our own players, if fletch did what every fan wanted him to do we would loose our own players.

Call up Frost and ride this bitch out.

Chasing this perceived window by dealing assets for declining pieces is imo nothing but a panic move that comes from a notion that there may not be someone for Giroux/Jake to truly pass the torch to. From a realization that the talent Hextall acquired is nearly all with the club and it may not be enough.

Organization needs to realize a huge indicator in the overall correct direction/plan depends on the future of Patrick. Time is the only thing that will answer that.

Ride the year out, and let the chips fall as they will. I hope they get in, but it will be a tough push to the end.

And yet you are replying to someone who wants to spend 5+ million on a 35ish point player signed for 2.5 more years.

Oh...and he is 35 years old. But hey, no risk in those 35-37 year old seasons.

:eyeroll:

tbh, I wouldn't be mad if Pitlick was brought back. Shouldn't be expensive to sign at all.

"Don't force it?" Are some of you in denial?

We've already "forced it" this summer.
Giving up a draft pick just to ensure we get a UFA, then pay him through the nose
Retain $ on another
A needless buyout just to get a little more cap, then spend to the max

If people seriously think Fletch is gonna, or better yet be allowed to take his foot off the gas as a bubble team i would say guess again.

Brace yourselfs

But you know it's more complicated than that.

They want to get in the playoffs for playoff money
They want to get in the playoffs for hopefully more season tickets sold next year
They want to get in the playoffs to give the kids experience(which is why Frost should be called up)
They want to get in the playoffs so this PAST summers moves(Nisky, Braun and Hayes) don't look as wastes

We could get a "doubling down" move or 2. I just hope the initial reaction isn't "oh no"...or "wtf".
