Getzlaf would be awesome. The salary is the problem. If Anaheim is willing to do Ghost plus the necessary salary retention it’s a no-brainer IMO.

Unfortunately, it comes from Eklund which means there’s no shot of it happening.

Yup...if you can trade Ghost for 1.5 years of a #2C when you have Frost and Patrick kicking around and just paid 7 million to Hayes, you do it.

:eyeroll:

Also not a true fan. Frost needs like 4 more years if AHL development. Stop promoting your favorites instead of promoting the team.

So trade a 26 year old defensemen who has scored over 50 points and is locked up on a cheap contract for three more years, for a 34 year old with one more year on his contract, whose point production is falling off a drastic cliff (73,61,48,33).
Nah, I’m good.

He asked, I answered.

You can context any trade to death and take a position.

You want context? Ghost hasn't provided good hockey for awhile. Skip the argument why...we know it. And currently the new coach isn't using him to his potential either...that is context. Argue all you want if you agree w/ AV or not, but his current role isn't moving any needles

Now more context for you. A player like Eller moves the envelope for his team when he is NOT on the ice w the best players

Ghost has shown he compliments the team when he's on the ice w/ the best players, and doesn't really push much of an envelope when he's not

IMO I know what position I deem more important in a playoff run. I'll take the more self sufficient player

The fact is that Ghost moves the needle in a positive direction all over the ice. The fact that you can't see that because it isn't showing itself in blocked shot or in the points column is your problem not his.

For what he earns he is still a positive contributor that is cap efficient. If you want to upgrade 3C fine, but the Flyers don't really have any elite talent so to win in the playoffs they need depth everywhere. So that means having guys like Ghost on the 3rd pairing even if their skill set is above that.

It's literally the whole point of how they are trying to build the team. If you trade Ghost for a center you are just spinning the tires.

Nah, I’m good.

But imagine all the zone exits hell get playing with Hagg.

This has nothing to do with trade value, but Getzlaf is still effective. He's certainly declining, but not shot.

They aren’t going to go all in this year. That would be dumb. Never know with more injuries, but we are likely to get far better games from Frost, Farabee, Patrick, Hart next year and hopefully TK and Lindblom. To trade a prime asset for a near rental you’d have to be Tampa level.

I don't want to trade for him either but his PPG average for those years

0.99
1.09
0.72
0.72

I mean you listed his 46 game total from this year as if it was his final point total. I mean come on man, you're better then that.

Regardless, his PPG production is only going to continue to decline, not increase at 34 years old.

I'm not against Getzlaf, but not for Ghost.

Funny you say Getzlaf’s production “is falling off a drastic cliff” when he’s registering 0.72 points per game, exactly the same as last season, yet you don’t cite it as an issue with Ghost who has gone from 0.83 to 0.47 to 0.30.

And Ghost’s contract is not a steal based on his play the last two seasons, which I have already shown by listing comparables.

Fact is, right now he’s a 3rd pairing defenseman, not on PP1, & not a PKer.

Getzlaf, meanwhile, remains one of the best 2-way centers in hockey. Having Couturier-Getzlaf-Hayes down the middle would be a game changer. They’d give teams fits, especially in AV’s system.

A first, second and fourth for Martin Hanzal.

Someone should remind Fletcher.

Hanzal was a good player. Got derailed by injuries. Fletcher was under intense win at all costs pressure from the owner.

Getzlaf is better than Hanzal & not a pending UFA.

You would have that for a year and a half.
For your first point, getzlaf’s numbers have dropped while getting pretty much the same usage, in the same spot on the lineup. Ghost’s numbers are indicative of his usage in a much lesser role, without PP1 time, and coming off, what was it again, hip surgery?
Will ghost be as dynamic a player as his rookie year? No. Is he the main part for an extended rental on an aging player? Hell no.
If you want getzlaf, send picks towards Anaheim, and bribe the bookkeepers to get him under cap.

Lol you know, I honestly didn’t realize I did that. That’s my bad there.
I’m not saying getzlaf is a scrub, I’m just pointing out he is a 34 year old declining veteran with a year and a half left on an (8 mil?) contract.
