This year will be quite challenging for Konovalov though, as he will have to win the starter's role over Eddie Pasquale, who had a very good debut KHL season last year.
If he loses his starter job to Pasquale I will be worried for his future.

I wish the Oilers had drafted Sergachev like it was rumored.

Having said that, I am guessing that a lot of JP's issues to date have been maturity issues. There may still be a player there if he comes back to the league with a different
BTW, playing with Lucic did not help him at all.
Yah, opposite occurred Pulju "slowed to" Lucic's level, instead of the hoped for Lucic elevating toward Puljus skill-set.

Well, Pasquale had a very solid KHL debut, he was among Top10 KHL goalies last season, so it won't be that easy.
Woa, is the goaltending that bad in KHL that Eddie Pasquale was top-tier there? Amazing. Amazing what a combo of potatoes washed town with Vodka can do for some people!

Wow the overrating of koskinen is out of control. If he played well in the playoffs we would still be playing. This is the stockolm syndrome with our goalies. We have had one single year of good tending in about the last decade and amazingly it was the year we made the playoffs.

We get out tended far more often than our goalie plays better than the opposition. If it is not letting in a bad goal every second game it is simply not stopping ones they need to stop (see chicagos winning goal in the last game.)

Much like last year our defense (which is no great shakes) is blamed for everything but the changes they give up need to be stopped far more often.

If we go into next year with Koskinen and some sucky guy like smith next year, no playoffs.
Maybe it's the team defense coaching structure that advocates goalies "_ hitting the sheets" that often?
Need a new D coach, go after Charlie Huddy in the 'Peg.
He has lost a handle on their defensive systems, structure. He is experienced at "poor defenses".

Sometimes KHL can be a good place to get restart even for non-Russians, Koskinen for example. Not to mention that Pasquale played last season in a Kazakhstan's team, so it's hard not to become glorious there.

How does one watch SHL games? They have online subscriptions?
I don't know of any online subscriptions. I use a site that streams SHL games online for free (as well as most KHL, Liiga, VHL, MHL, international games, etc) but there are ads and the quality leaves a bit to be desired. Send me a PM if you want the site.

I tuned in for the 2nd period of the Skelleftea AIK game, and Broberg looks massive. Like I'd say he's at least 6'4 or 6'5 now. He didn't have much opportunity to display his straight-line speed, but his skating looks fluid and is very noticeable. Defensively, he read passing lanes nicely and on two occasions that period intercepted a pass and took the puck the other way for a shot on net. His size was put to use as he separated opponents from the puck a couple of times. Broberg got some powerplay time as well and made a slick deke on the blue line before having his shot blocked.

It's the 2nd intermission right now so I switched over to the Rogle/Frolunda game. Raphael Lavoie hasn't gotten much ice time and has yet to really catch my eye. Lucas Raymond just scored a rocket for Frolunda though.

I'm interested in how Lavoie's skating looks as IMO that is his biggest weakness as of the end of last season.

Thanks for the update! I was going to write something about Broberg but I have not managed to see him play yet so I held off.

Anyhow, since you brought him up I will go through a couple of notes I got from interviews and pre/post-game write-ups about Skelleftea's pre-season games so far.
- I think that Broberg started on the 2nd pair in the first game, but since then was moved up to first pair (playing on the left, with Petter Granberg on the right).
- He is on PP2 for Skelleftea, but worth noting here is that Skelleftea's PP1 has no defenceman on it. They run 5 forwards on their top unit, the second unit is a "kid" unit (3 out of 5 played the for SWE in the U20s).
- Finally, in terms of player grades he has been getting 3's (1-5) in the games for which I managed to get around the paywall of the local paper :)

It definitely seems like he's gaining his coaches trust. He was put on the ice to start off the 4 on 3 in OT. That's pretty impressive for a 19 year old.

Getting top pairing quality minutes this young is such a good thing to see. Literally the perfect situation.

Very young, raw player has time and space to develop because we have two established NHL top4 LD ahead of him, and a young Jones forcing his way onto the roster.

Not to mention, Broberg has healthy competition with Samorukov & Jones when he eventually is given serious consideration for a spot.

Surprised there's been no mention that Bouchard will play for Södertälje this season.

Oilers loan Bouchard to Sweden's Sodertalje SK for start of 2020-21 season - Sportsnet.ca

As a curiosity, Södertälje was where William Nylander and David Pasternak played and became BFF before they headed to the NHL
