The guy had a 2.29 GAA and .917 SV% after MacT was fired.

When his previous 2 years had him at above 0.930 and under 2 GAA. that's a rough year. Also a 917 would of moved him to 28th in the league from 30th.
The KHL is full of guys with a high save percentage. Last year 14 guys had a 0.930 and above. So a 0.917 from your starter isn't good in the KHL.

Oddly enough the worst thing that happened to Konovalov last year was MacT. The best thing was when MacT was let go.

I wouldn’t say Samorukov had a rough year. His first 20 Condors games were meh but his last 20ish were good. Hard to expect points when you play bottom pair (later 2nd) and almost no PP time. The Condors were so offensively inept.... the lack of forward prospects is a serious issue.

Only Benson, Mcleod, Currie and Malone were playing offensively

Perspective. Many on this board had him a future #1 elite defenseman.

For his age he had an ok at best first pro year but nothing that even guarantees him to be a #6 in the nhl some day.

There is a huge gap between those two things. Thus why most say he had a terrible year.
