What I like about Iafallo is that his shooting percentage is trending up. He's gone from 7% to 10% to 12% with shot totals increasing each season. If you're on the top 2 lines, you need to be 10%+ at the minimum, especially if you're on Kopi's wings. When Brown got put into Sutter's linemate purgatory, he had some absolutely rotten shooting percentages in the 5% range. Probably a combination of role, linemates and lack of good passers. He bounced back with successive 12% shooting seasons and 10% last season. It seems that a lot of our top prospects are + passers, so this should help team shooting percentage in the long run.

I don't think the Kings are focused on Iafallo and they shouldn't be. This team needs to bring in high end talent to attract some fans becausee right now outside of this board the entire planet forgot LA has a hockey team once again. It's going to take a lot to earn the fans dollars again.

Who is Bulat Shafigullin? Will we ever see him?
Probably not, has not had any sort of success in the KHL (2 assists in 33 games). Unless he has a breakout year, likely will not ever see him in North America. Though he is only 20, but I still highly doubt it.

Mike Futa was on Craig Custance’s podcast and talked about all kinds of interesting things. He touches on how he was let go (says it was a “gut punch”), talks about how he and DL changed the culture, talks about drafting Clifford and Simmonds, etc. Apologies if this has already been posted somewhere.

‎The Full 60 with Craig Custance: Culture Changer Mike Futa on Apple Podcasts

I’m a little bothered by letting go of Futa and Stothers.

Not sure why the time was now.

listening to that too, Futa played some key parts to LAs cups. Should have been handled with more respect imho.

Schenn, Simmonds, Clifford, MacDermaid, all guys Futa went to bat for.

I know things change but I’m scratching my head a bit on this after hearing that.

Monetary? Just superfluous at this point?

Should of had a better send off.

He is soft. He doesn't drive the play. Hes not the type you win with by paying him 6+ mill. Everyone talks about his goal scoring like he is some perennial 40 goal guy. Lets see him hit 30 first

I see him scoring often from around the front of the net. If he’s of such little value then he shouldn’t be hard to pry out of Vancouver. I don’t see many 23-year-olds who’ve put up similar numbers. He hit 29 goals and 26 goals in his first two seasons in less than 70 games. You make it sound like 30 goals is a far reach for him.

Not out of reach but not his norm either. I think he has plateaud as a player. He will have a Lee Stempniak type of career.

That’s an odd comparison. Stempniak was a late round pick who had two 20+ goal seasons in his 14 year career and averaged .51 points per game.

Boeser already has two seasons of 20+ goals early in his career and averages .82 points per game, with 161 points in 197 games.

This is like comparing Elias Pettersson to Adrian Kempe.

Im not referring to draft position im referring to their playing style.

I would not trade for him while giving up something substantial. His goal production and shooting percentage have been in decline since his rookie season. On top of the fact that he's not proven to be durable, you've got 2 seasons left on his current contract, 1 of which who knows what kind of season it's going to be thanks to COVID. If he doesn't bounce back, you've got a contract decision to make. Bridge or longer term? Are you hoping this turns into a Justin Williams type pickup? So factoring in all of those things, what would you give up for him? I certainly would not give up any of the top 5 prospects on the farm and/or an unprotected 1st. Boeser is not cheap, has to be re-signed in 2 seasons and statistically has been in decline since his rookie season coupled with inability to break 70 games played.

Not saying the Kings shouldn't make a deal "like" this one, but I wouldn't waste ammo on Boeser. It's too bad the timing was wrong, but I would've tried to get William Nylander when he was having issues with Toronto. That's the type of target I'd prefer.

Running numbers to see Boeser's production over the past three years (which is when he earned a full time NHL spot), I filtered to players like Boeser who have a .80 points per game average and found these results:

- Boeser's .83 points per game is 46th overall in the NHL. So production wise, he's a top 50 player.
- Boeser is 33rd in the league in 5-on-5 goals per 60 minutes at 1.00. That's slightly higher than the likes of Mark Stone, Logan Couture, Sebastien Aho, Steven Stamkos, Patrick Kane, Evgeni Malkin, Sean Monohan, etc.

He's 23 years old with three full seasons of experience. I think some of you are really selling this kid short, which is fine. I'm hoping the Canucks do the same.

I really like Boeser, but his back injury scares me. He hasn't really had that electric shot since his injury. He's been getting by more on skill and IQ since the injury and he wouldn't be cheap either. It would cost us a pretty hefty prospect which I would do if it was pre-back injury Boeser.

But I wouldn't be willing to roll the dice on him for even Kaliyev who plays a similar game but at this point already has a better shot. And will be cheaper and cost controlled for a longer period of time. Plus wouldn't require us to take on an additional bad contract.

I believe there was also a report that the Canucks want to re-sign Toffoli.

It would be odd to sign Toffoli and trade Boeser.

The Canucks real problem is the signings of Myers and Eriksson. They'd be much better off right now had they stood pat during free agency.

The official unofficial story is that Benning doesn't want to lose face by not retaining Toffoli (for what he gave up). The unofficial official story is is too many red flags surrounding Boeser.

Isn’t Boeser related to a stagnant cap more than anything? Still strange tho.

That and the Canucks are a top 5 cap spending team and still have to re-sign...

Jacob Markstrom, UFA, their #1 goalie
Chris Tanev, UFA, one of their top 3 defensemen
Troy Stetcher, RFA, their second youngest dman after Quinn Hughes
Jake Virtanen, RFA, enjoying a career year and is due for a significant raise
Adam Gaudette, RFA, 23-year-old who played himself in a top six role and has produced

And in addition to those players, Benning wants to lock up Tyler Toffoli after giving up a good number of assets for him.

After this season, Eriksson has two more years left on his contract at $6M. If any team takes him on, then that is going to undercut Boeser's true value.

If Vancouver wanted to package Eriksson with Boeser, the most I'd offer is something like Kyle Clague, perhaps another prospect, and a 2nd/3rd rounder.

We had that guy and people couldn't wait to run him out of town. Funny enough he seems to be the guy that may replace Boeser.

I like BB a lot but he's simply a big market Tyler Toffoli and one that's thus far made of glass.

I think he's a piece you look for to complete a team and we're not there yet.

I think they're slowly getting there though and view the upcoming season to be similar to what we witnessed in 2009-10 with young players stepping in and having a break through season while still having a solid foundation of veterans around them.

Say the Kings do land that top four, left-handed dman via free agency and add another top six forward via trade and a full season of Vilardi, Petersen, Anderson, and if Kempe finally finds a bit of consistency as a winger... I'm optimistic that the 2020-21 season can be a big step forward for this squad.

A hypothetical lineup next season should our fantasies be fulfilled:

Iafallo-Kopitar-Brown
Grundstrom-Carter-Boeser
Kempe-Vilardi-Frk
Moore-Lizotte-Wagner

Edmundson-Doughty
Anderson-Roy
MacDermid-Walker

Quick-Petersen

Adding a top six forward, a top four defenseman, and a slew of under 24-year-old skaters could inject some much needed energy and flow into the lineup. This is the most optimistic I've been about a Kings roster since they acquired Jeff Carter.
