Kopitar, like Doughty, is significantly more positively regarded around the NHL than in the Kings fan base.
He is seen as one of the best center combinations of offense/defense in the entire league. He has put up fantastic offensive numbers on a Kings team that has always stressed checking and defense, and all without ever having a legitimate top-notch sniper on his wing. He is a no-nonsense hard-worker who has always been a disciplined class act. He is not emotional so it looks like he's coasting or doesn't give a damn, and fans understandably would like to see a little fire in his leadership, but it's not who he is. A definite HOF who was the #1 center and linchpin on 2 Cups in three years. He's worth every penny and we will be glad he'll be here for years to help usher and mentor the new multi-talented centers.

Not sure if this applies to everybody, or maybe just the teams they know will be excluded from some weird postseason, but I can confirm what Hoven said about the ice being removed.
There are plans to possibly convert Staples Center and other arenas into emergency medical facilities. I doubt a sheet of ice is compatible with the plan.

Kopitar will probably go down as one of the most underappreciated players in team history. The guy has been a workhorse for so many years, and he still gets flogged for some reason (hell, I get on his case too because he's not selfish enough at times).

Same people who lambaste Blake for "disloyalty" are quick to want to get rid of one of the most important players in Kings history. Funny how that works out.

They never won with Blake, and he had his eyes either elsewhere, or on himself. I think, maybe we're content with Kopitar. There's no unfinished business. The only thing he had left to do here was make more money. Had he chosen to leave in 2016, with everything leading up to it the same, we'd probably still see it as disloyal, but I doubt it would've been at the same level as Blake.

Kinda depends. If Kopitar had a big public dispute over negotiations and then left, it might not have a favorable look like with Blake, but otherwise there'd be no reason to feel upset if negotiations just don't work out a la Williams.

Kopitar has lead the team in scoring for something like 12 seasons now. The only player who can boast a longer streak than him is Ovi.

Any talk of not paying or trading a player who has been producing the most points on his team for over a decade is ridiculous. Bad contracts are those where their point production does not relate to their wage. When you top payed player produces the most points on your team for 12 years straight, thats a good contract.

Carter actually outscored him in '17, so it's not 12 straight, its 12 out of the last 13 seasons.

Not that it matters, your point is still equally valid.

Yeah, it is 12 total seasons, I remember seeing an infographic sometime this season about it. I think that Ovi was topped by Backstrom a few years back and maybe once by Kuzentsov so he has 12 out of 14 seasons leading his team in scoring, while Kopitar is 12 out of 13 seasons(and both are leading their teams this season as well).

Anyways, it is an extremely impressive feat, I can't imagine there are many players who have led their team in scoring for 13 seasons. It has to be less than a dozen right?

Well you got me there, I actually got the info off a Leafs broadcast I think it was, either way a point I missed was that hes lead the team in offensive numbers for over a decade, while being regarded as a defensive forward.

Hes a gem, he deserves every dollar hes paid

Nice job Sparky206, Tegrity Matters.

I saw Madden play live twice this past season and he is a really exciting player to watch. He is all out all over the ice. Lots of players look like that but very few are truly successful at that tempo all over the ice. Madden is one of those guys. Picture Lappy with Hands and Vision.

Kopi's contract is awful but what was required to keep him. That's how it goes sometimes.

Having Kopitar, Brown, Doughty and Quick lead the way while the young guys develop is a pretty good dynamic. Despite their ages and contracts, all four players are capable of meaningful contributions. Especially, without #11 and #8 the Kings would be worse than the Red Wings.

On today's "Insider Trading" they talked about how having to address some of these issues in the short-term could result in extended labor peace.

The worse things get economically, the more they'll alienate fans if the two sides squabble. There might not be fans in the seats until they get a vaccine of some kind, which is likely the next calendar year.
