Glad to hear about Frk, to be honest he looks fiesty and has been creating some opportunities down there.

I missed the buffalo game...what happened to Lewis?

Took a big hit right off the bat of the game, looked like a possible concussion. He's pretty brittle now.

eeks does his head hit the ice there?
During the slow motion replay on TV it looked as if his helmet slid back in the way down and he hit the ice with his forehead...
Really surprised he wasn’t bleeding everywhere not even a cut .. but he did look like he got concussed

Kopitar and Doughty are superstars and they drove those teams.

In 2014 when the Kings were severely depleted Sutter had to rely heavily on Doughty/Kopitar throughout those playoffs, Doughty ended up setting a record with 747 minutes of TOI. For reference, Pietrangelo led the playoffs last season in TOI with 669 in the same number of games played.
The bar is a little too low for superstar status around here. Kopitar and Doughty are stars. Superstars are guys like Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, etc. Doughty and Kopitar are not superstars.

Well, if you only consider players that are top 10 all time to be superstars, then I guess you are right that they are not superstars. Beyond semantics, they were the best players on a team that had a 3 year stretch going 10-1 in playoff rounds. Kopitar led the team in scoring both cup runs and Doughty led the team in TOI, they were not passengers on extremely deep teams. They were players considered top 5 in the league at their positions who rose to the occasion and led the team to two Stanley Cups.

...and they have been great every season since 2013-14, right? No, they haven't, and superstars are much more consistent season-to-season.

Doughty and Kopitar were very good, and sometimes great in the cup runs. Their performances in the 2013 playoffs left me wanting more from them.

Carter, Voynov, Richards, Williams, Scuderi, and Quick led the way in the 2013 playoffs.

So, you don't think McDavid is a superstar? He has only made the playoffs once in his career, does that reflect poorly on him?

The fact that the Kings have struggled so much since 2013-14 speaks more to the fact that those two willed the Kings to a Stanley Cup. That roster had some serious flaws, but they were able to overcome it before the team fell apart.

No, I don't think McDavid is a superstar. He has a chance to be a superstar.

Doughty and Kopitar willed the Kings to victory in 2012 and 2014? No, they played their parts and played them well. To say they willed the team to cups in 2012 and 2014 shortchanges the contributions of many other players who were every bit as good at playing their roles.

McDavid is not a superstar? Jesus Christ, what am I reading? Someone must’ve had way too much eggnog. That statement is completely ridiculous. If McDavid isn’t considered a superstar, nobody is.

Kopitar was 2nd in the NHL (Behind only Crosby) in this decade in Goals Above Replacement. Ahead of Ovechkin, Malkin, Stamkos, Kane, Bergerons, etc...
So...

I am going to get Frk a vowel for his last name for Christmas

Someone on the Kings should get him these chocolate letters for Christmas.

I think you are going to find that you are very alone in that opinion.

Doughty and Kopitar were the most important pieces in those cup runs(possibly Quick as well). Nobody is shortchanging the contributions of the other players, every player in the organization contributed to the Kings win and it wuldn't have happened without them. That doesn't mean that Jeff Schultz was as important as Doughty for those runs. I was specifically talking about 2014 when I said those 2 willed the team to victory and I think the insane amount of minutes that Doughty put up is a testament to that fact.

What has he won? Nothing. As I said, the bar is too low for some.

He could attain that status with longevity, and some clutch playoff performances.

So...
Goals above replacement? How about goals in the McFlurry minute on Tuesday nights? I bet he is the career leader.

Why do you go to the hyperbolic extreme every time? Jeff Schultz? When did I say anything about the bit players?

I guess winning a Hart Trophy, two Art Ross Trophies, two Ted Lindsay Awards, and three 100+ point seasons (heading towards four), is insufficient credentials to be considered a superstar player.

Since Jonathan Toews has won Cups, he must be a bigger star than Connor McDavid. This logic, it is preposterous.
