A little bit tangential but illustrative of how he gets abused, Kopitar played more than any San Jose shark and anyone in the game last night except Drew Doughty's 28+ minutes, coming in at 26:13

Remember when I said he was playing #1 d-man minutes? That's absolutely absurd, haha.

Brown played 23+ minutes too. Doughty was at 8 min on the PP though, 4 minutes more than his season average. Kopitar, 7:30, which is 4 minutes more than his season average. Brown, 7 minutes, almost 4 minutes more. That's where a lot of that extra time came from. The PP is supposed to be easier minutes.

I didn't see the entire game, so was there a particular reason Prokhorkin played less than 8 minutes at ES? Amadio and Carter were also down at ES, relative to their season averages. Kopitar was at 17 minutes, which is another 2 additional minutes above his ES season average. 4 extra on the PP, 2 extra at ES, that's the 6 extra minutes or so over Kopitar's season average of just under 21. Did all those extra minutes come in the 3rd period when the Kings had some momentum, and thought they might win the game, or was everyone else that bad leading up to the Sharks 3-0 lead?

With Martinez injury it makes me worried Toffoli could go down. If any team is offering a 2nd + right now I want Blake to take it.

It's November. I would guess nobody is offering that yet. Look at the trades that have happened since the season started. Is Toffoli going to fix Calgary's problems? No. Montreal? No. St.Louis is surviving without Tarasenko. Toffoli is a depth piece for a team headed to the playoffs. He's not a game changer. Who needs him in December?

I have no idea, but I’m hoping the fact the nerves are ‘superficial’ that it means it’s likely to be only a touch of sensation that’s affected, as opposed to any gross motor skills.
Yeah, surface nerves basically. A good thing the cut wasn't deeper or include a break of some kind.

Not to be insentitive, but thats the suicide cut.. Just think, Marty was going balls out and even dove to make a play = his heart was pumping pretty hard. A deeper cut or worse and he would have been in big trouble...

Apropos.....sorta, not really. Gang ragging on Dee's hilarious.

I don't think it's insensitive. It was a very serious injury. Could it be providence that his former teammate in juniors was on the ice at the same time, saw what happened, and knew exactly what to do in an instant?

Think about it. How many kids from the same junior team make it to major league hockey? They are friends, the one is with a team that is the visiting team that particular night, and is on the ice within close proximity of his friend at the time of the injury. What are the odds?

The Clint Malarchuk injury must have been even more terrifying since he was cut on his neck.

My brother and sister in law were at that game. My sister in law mentioned she nearly fainted when it happened. I think my brother still has the program from the game.

The trainer was Jim Pizutelli, a Vietnam war veteran, saved his life. Truly amazing to react that quickly and be cool under the circumstances which were dire.

If you have a few minutes to spare, have a read. Life has not been easy for him.

Clint Malarchuk suffered a horrific sporting injury. But PTSD put his life in peril again, decades later

Good to see he’s turned things around and is out there making a difference. Remember, you are never alone. There’s always someone you can reach out to. Don’t be hesitant to discuss how you feel. It truly works and it will empower you.

The Kings' blueline as of today:
Drew Doughty
Sean Walker
Ben Hutton
Matt Roy
Joakim Ryan
Kurtis MacDermid
Paul LaDue

That has to be the worst blueline the team have iced in quite some time.

was an obvious weakness going into the season. bjornfot making the roster out of camp gave me hope but I still think this team is a ways away on the defensive front. I hope Blake signs one UFA d man to go into the 2nd pair this off season

Unfortunately, the 2020 UFA list for defensemen is very dry.

There's not much out there, but if there is fillers they need, there are plenty of those.

Does that mean Forbort has had a setback, going to LTIR? Or is it a paper exercise.

I think this year's class of UFA d is pretty good for 3/4 guys. Not alot of 1/2 but a fair number of 3/4.

Really? I think you're being generous with those names. I see a bunch of depth guys who will play 5-6-7 roles, very few in the 3-4 range, unless they're joining a bad team, like the Kings.

Most of the UFA dmen on that list who are seeing 19-20 minutes are also playing on the worst teams, so I guess they'll be walking into a similar situation should they join the Kings.

As long as they are guys who will sign a one-year deal and bring a 2nd round pick at the trade deadline next season, I am all for the Kings signing one of them.

The Reign have 3 games this holiday weekend. If Forbort plays all 3 and feels ready to go, he'll go back to the Kings, and LA will likely send a defensemen back down to ONT, probably LaDue.
Will they though??
I dont see them seperating Walker-Doughty.. So maybe teh bottom 4 are;
Forbort-Roy/LaDue
Hutton-Roy/LaDue ??
