Wtf does TT do to constantly get PP time??? It's getting mind boggling.

Seeing how the Kings' powerplay usually only involves the puck going through the same three players, I'm guessing his role will be to stand idly along the boards and wait if a puck that is shot wide from Drew Doughty finds its way around his side of the ice.

We finished dead last and here we are talking about a loaded defense.
Beside Doughty we don't have a single impact player on defense and Doughty isn't his former self either.
Our Youngsters like Bjornfot and Claque need way more time in the minors.
How is this a loaded defense?

loaded with quantity not quality, but the quantity LA does have are better than JMFJ

- They predict that Kovalchuk will be moved at some point in 2020.
- Kopitar will hit 80 points
- Adrian Kempe will reach his potential
- Alex Turcotte will appear in a game with the Kings in April (should Wisconsin not go far). I don't know if that'll happen.
- Quick will bounce back
- Bjornfot will remain with the Kings this season
- Tyler Toffoli will get dealt

I’m so out of the loop. Did Bjornfot actually make the opening night roster? Will he play the customary nine games before going back to Sweden? What’s the exact development plan for him?

Because on one hand, that’s amazing he made the opening night roster as an 18 year old defenseman. On the other hand, our defense sucks lol.
That was already the case when you compared him with Thomas Hickey.

this all sounds good to me.

Do the Kings really think it's a good idea to let Bjornfot play the entire season as an 18 year old?

If the Kings don't care that they burn off one year of his ELC, then it's not a binary choice between 9 and 82 games, right? They can play him 40, for instance. Now, I don't know if they sit him in the press box, or have the option of sending him back to Sweden mid-season, but they don't have to play him every single game.

depending how the year is going why not. If LA is in last and there is worry about the culture end him back to juniors or Sweden (not sure where he would go) so that he can play in the world juniors. They should know where he and the team is at by December.

Do you think it is a bad idea if he ends up spending the season with the team? Are you concerned about his development being stalled or more about the contract not sliding?

TMac already playing 4D chess...those aren't bad shots, they're slap passes, baby!

If LA is worried about the culture this year then we're in deeper shit than even the biggest pessimist on this board could imagine.

How does JMFJ help us in any way? Even if he was on a shorter/cheaper deal he still doesn’t help us, it’s not as if he can play a specific role and deliver nightly. He’s inconsistent and defensively poor. At his best he wasn’t more than a number 4 d-man and he’s way past that. I’d rather have claimed Hickey from waivers, who isn’t flash but plays a steady consistent game.

Not so much culture as far as locker room issues but worrying about cultivating losing culture with an 18 year old. Some believe you need to be on a winning team to learn to win, maybe the world juniors would give Bjornfot that

only way he helps is if he comes with a 1st plus

I don't know if being on a winning or losing team matters in development. Kopitar, Brown, Quick and Doughty joined some awful Kings teams and they turned out alright. I'd be more concerned with him being surrounded by players who would be a negative influence on a young player.

Thankfully there aren't any bad seeds who are disruptive jackasses like the Kings had in the past with the likes of Jeremy Roenick and Sean Avery.

To add to your point, I believe the biggest advantage a kid like Bjornfot will have this season if he stays is that he will be surrounded by guys who were embarassed last season and who look like they really give a f*** and are angry... If anything, the kid will be on a team that battles, claws, fights and overachieves more often than not

That is extremely optimistic believing this team will be one that battles, claws, fights and overachieves more often than not.

I sincerely hope that they don't disappoint you, at least not early in the year. Hope springs eternal and everyone is undefeated to start the season so I admire your ultra-positive takes on everything. Sounds like a great way to live but this franchise has beaten me down more often than not that I've learned to expect the worst so I can be mildly enthusiastic when they wind up simply mediocre.

The core consists of former champions who that thought they could turn it on when they needed to reach another gear, and learned they can't do that anymore. I believe last year was an anomaly - not the new norm. Sure, age is kicking in. But they've got pride - they're not bums. I think they're going to show that.

I think having someone at the helm that holds zero loyalties to anyone is a good start... At minimum we're getting rid of 2 vets in Toffoli and Lewis so thats 2 young kids that'll at the very least play hard.. here's looking at JAD and maybe Rempal?
Unlike other sports, in hockey having kids that are hungry can have a rejuvenating effect on veterans
