Listen to the media and podcasts - everything thinks we still will suck and are in the in-between of an old team and re-building. At least two of Carter, Quick, Kopitar, Brown and Doughty need to be dealt - we all know it likely won't be the latter three.

4 young players aren't enough, especially when Wagner and Grunstrom already played last year. Also, after 9 games Bjornfot is gone.

You can’t throw too many young guys in at once, it needs to be a staged transition. Look at how many player Edmonton have ruined because they exposed their prospects to early. It needs to be done over 2-3 seasons , there’s no way around it without damaging the ceiling of a lot of the kids. They need vets around them that can guide them through games, and be used to help give sheltered minutes as/when needed.

Also, Brown is the definition of a perfect vet to be around the younger players whilst they develop. He now back to being a decent top 6 wing, and trading him at this point would be a dumb move unless the return was irresistible. Ironically he’d be the easiest of the 5 you listed to move. I don’t understand why you listed him, if I’m honest.

Kopitar and Doughty won’t be going anywhere, nor do they ‘need’ to. I also can’t believe how many Kings ‘fans’ turned on Drew after his only season where he didn’t warrant Norris consideration. Despite that he was still one of the leagues top d-men. The speed people have turned on him is a disgrace. He’s had one down year in his career, which 10+ season vets haven’t. On top of that the crazy going on around him makes it very forgivable. Let’s not forget he was still better than the rest of our blue line combined.

So we are basically saying we need to move Carter & Quick (+ Toffoli) as we’ve been saying all summer. So let’s hope they bounce back. Quick at least looks like he is planning on doing so.

I’m so out of the loop. Did Bjornfot actually make the opening night roster? Will he play the customary nine games before going back to Sweden? What’s the exact development plan for him?

Because on one hand, that’s amazing he made the opening night roster as an 18 year old defenseman. On the other hand, our defense sucks lol.

For his personal life I'm sure it will be amazing, and in the long run I'm sure it will mature him on the ice too. In the short term though, dude's not gonna get much sleep...

This is true. But I remember feeling generally wired and kind of high on life after my first was born. I was physically exhausted, yes, but super motivated and energized about life.

I think it changes peoples priorities a lot. Having the responsibilty of supporting and raising a kid, probably makes players second guess putting their body on the line. The lack of sleep puts you in zombie mode tooo_O

Yeah I mean not like we didn't see it first hand with Kopitar, Brown, Carter, etc... Anyway, good for Drew. Being a dad is awesome.

On one hand, CONGRATS!!

On the other, **** year incoming

And the first year of a Cup contract. Maybe he got that one out of the way last year, since he signed it before the worst year of his career, so now it should be ok, but who knows. Kid + marriage + contract is never good. Right, the wedding was last year? One hit after another.

Are we getting back Barkov in this hypothetical trade?

Well they didn't even get Barkov for Schenn and Simmonds. Just a what if. Of those 4, who would be the likeliest to be traded in 9 months? Although nobody would've guessed Schenn as a likely trade candidate in Oct 2010.

Anyone know what the powerplay lines have been looking like? Curious where they're utilizing guys like Bjornfot and Lizotte.

Jack Johnson? He’s really bad now and Kings are loaded at D.

We finished dead last and here we are talking about a loaded defense.
Beside Doughty we don't have a single impact player on defense and Doughty isn't his former self either.
Our Youngsters like Bjornfot and Claque need way more time in the minors.
How is this a loaded defense?
