Yeah, problem though is the kids can't grow to see if they have NHL potential with too many vets. About 4 or 5 is right. You can only dress 6 vets in game. Right now vets include Sutter, Frk, M. Kempe (if he clears) and Stanton. I really hope the Reign sign Bouma. He would do a lot to add some toughness and size. He's a decent player with a lot of NHL experience. I think his voice would go a long way in that locker room, which will be filled with first and second years players.
Oh I get it. It's why I thought the Stanton signing was stupid. There was already too many dmen in Ontario.

How do you figure that? If you buy IK out next June, everything stays the same as it would if he didn't get bought out, except he's not here. If you buy JJ out, his name is on the books until 2026. They get more cap space next year if they do JJ, but who are they going to spend it on? Another veteran warm body? It's probably even easier not buying Kovalchuk out at all. If TT, KC, and TL are all gone after this season, that's 3 spots open for young guys, which is likely more than enough. Then you try and trade IK at the 2021 deadline. Maybe get a mid round pick of some sort.

Because I'm not sure how a 1st is going to come this way from Pittsburgh in a JJ for IK trade. If the Kings were only taking JJ, then a 1st makes sense. Wasn't the rumor that Blake wanted to trade Carter for Marleau? I don't think another Leafs 1st was coming back. Is a 36+ year old winger what the Pens even need for 2 years? I'd hold onto that 1st until the deadline, especially if I was going to use it for IK, to see how he does first. Last year you can chalk it up to total team dysfunction. Now that the rest of the team seems to be somewhat engaged, and they have some level of respect for the coach, you see if he still does his own thing on the ice.

We have some terrible salesmen on the board.
TT sucks if they get a 2nd it will be a dream come true. What does a so-called scorer with a 5th shooting average get anyone?

Here's the actual rule...

Of the 18 skaters (not counting two goaltenders) that teams may dress for a game, at least 13 must be qualified as “development players.” Of those 13, 12 must have played in 260 or fewer professional games (including AHL, NHL and European elite leagues), and one must have played in 320 or fewer professional games. All calculations for development status are based on regular-season totals as of the start of the season.

If we assume the KHL counts as a "European Elite League" (and to the best of my knowledge it does) then you can add Prokhorkin to the list as well.

EDIT : For the record Prokhorkin has played 322 games between the AHL & KHL

Don’t mean to ruin your day but Richards is on the books until 2031. My 2 year old will be in Jr. High when we’re done paying him...

Yeah, CapFriendly’s table didn’t scroll that far. Yikes!

Wait a second.

Did I just read we should trade Kovy who scored 16 goals last season while missing 18 games for J. Johnson who has 4 years left @ +$3M and a 1st ?

How the **** is that a good deal ?

But if we retain on Kovalchuk...wait, that makes it even worse.

Why the hell are we even discussing adding Jack Johnson to our club.

**** might as well bring back Phaneuf and make sure none of the kids see ice-time this year.
Waive him and send him to Ontario. still take some ice from kids but I could squint and see how it may make sense

Just around 1:15 is when they're talking about "the trade"

Edit: Biz asks Richie about the Roszival incident  he doesn't know anything though. And references STL as the hardest series he's ever played

Effusive praise for Matt Greene

Mario Kempe and Paul LaDue both clear waivers. I know, we're all shocked.

Daniel Sprong is the most interesting name on the waiver wire and we have 2nd priority right ? I sure hope we claim him. He can be a good one . He was a PPG at 20 years old in the AHL in his first season . He can replace Toffoli and be a good one with skilled line mates maybe

I'm not sure if Sprong was tried with Crosby or Malkin but if he couldn't produce in PIT then I doubt he's worth a look.

He was rushed into the NHL his draft year . That was a mistake but at 18/19 years old he put up 7 Points in 10 games in the AHL and did fairly decent in limited time in the NHL. He had a strong camp to make it right away . Then in the AHL he had a PPG at 20 years old . Last year 14 goals in 47 games . I feel like he’s worth a try . He comes from the deepest draft in the history of the game and has skill . We are in a rebuild he should be given the opportunity. I think he can make it

I Don't expect much from the team this year, but I hope the Kings keep MacDermid on the roster. They could use his size and toughness.

Without Clifford the Kings are very soft. I can’t think of any other players willing to drop them and play physical besides Hutton or Wagner. Occasionally, Lewis. Grundstrom plays physical. Kempe does a bit too.
