Best thing LaDue has going for him is his shot, and mobility. A big negative is he is soft, and you don't really notice him. If he ever wants to play in the NHL he's going to have to change his game, kinda like Phillipe Boucher did when he went to the minors for a year.

Spittin Chiclets podcast has an interview with Mike Richards available. I plan on listening to it this evening.

Interview was great. He understandably didn't want to talk about how his time in LA ended, but what he did say about Greene being a glue guy, Doughty and Quick just being nails, and the general attitude of those Cup teams was awesome. I'm glad it seems like Richie's just taking it easy nowadays.

Also, any Columbus fans listening are going to hate Jeff Carter even more now haha. It was good to hear the trade stories from their perspective a bit though. They both had Flyers logos tattooed on their behinds when they signed those contracts; Richards says at one point that he had a handshake agreement that he wouldn't be moved before his NTC kicked in.

It is what it is and has a lot of other factors playing in to it, but I'm pretty sure the Kings record with MacD in the lineup since the start of the 2018 season is better than without him.

In a year designed to net a high draft pick while simultaneously rebuilding culture, he's the perfect 7th defenseman. Here is a guy with limited skill that has busted his ass to break in to the NHL in a time where players of his ilk are nearly extinct. He comes in every camp and crushes the fitness testing and gives everything he has. On the flip side, you have whatever the majority of the veterans brought to camp last year. "Entitlement" has been the buzz word since the end of last season: MacDermid is the furthest away from entitled that you can get.

Hopefully those that trash on him can see the big picture. Is he a better hockey player than LaDue? Absolutely not. That has never been the argument. Would I rather have my 7th defenseman be a real glue guy in a locker room that has seriously been questioned? Definitely. We all should.

Yeah, also a lot of that interview was centered on how much partying was occurring. Maybe that's the norm with NHL players, but I never got that vibe to that level. Anyway sounds like MR is living a tough life, 5 days fishing, round of golf here and there... must be nice.

I was dying at them basically talking about going on benders between series' in 2012 since they had so much time haha.

I also really like when they talk about his two reverse sweeps that, like Doughty, he almost dismisses the notion that they were ever going to lose that series. Basically oh yeah, we know who we were and who they were and what we had to do. But Boston? that was a good team. lol!

Most interesting name on waivers is Nikolay Goldobin, I'd definitely take a shot at him.
I was watching the Canucks broadcast last week and they basically said Goldobin played himself out of Vancouver. He had a chance to play with Petterson and couldn't keep up on the top line.

Goldobin couldn't' stick in San Jose either.

Don't hate him but I've never seen any redeeming qualities that would be like "hey, he'd be a great fit here."

Pretty much agree. I’ve said previously that I didn’t think MacD was a NHL defence-man but I absolutely have to admire the guy for most of the reasons you laid out. He’s earned his role and is the right player for this roster, at this time. I’d actually argue he is a better hockey player than LaDue, not as skilled, but is more effective and brings more of an impact (no pun intended).

Having someone on the roster that has gotten there by sheer will and determination sends a great message to the guys in the AHL. I started camp with a view that I could live with him as our #7 d-man, but he’s won me over. As long as we use him right, and that does not just mean against Calgary, I’m happy he’s on the roster. He has my complete respect and is a class act.

Hoping for a better season. Last year was horrible. Hope the entitled brats show some heart. Hope the younger players instill some life and excitement. Hope Quick has more in the tank. Hope for a healthy team. Hope the new coaching staff is an improvement. Hope BLuc doesn't make any boneheaded moves. The older I get, the less tolerant of crappy sports teams I become. Hope for a better season.

Listen to the media and podcasts - everything thinks we still will suck and are in the in-between of an old team and re-building. At least two of Carter, Quick, Kopitar, Brown and Doughty need to be dealt - we all know it likely won't be the latter three.

4 young players aren't enough, especially when Wagner and Grunstrom already played last year. Also, after 9 games Bjornfot is gone.

Everyone has LA being very very awful this year. I think the D is the biggest concern for this year, but also that we will see a bounce back by at least 3 of Kopitar, Quick, Doughty, Carter, Kovalchuk and Toffoli. That will be enough to make the Kings better than last year. Not at all saying this team will be good but I do think better.

I'm not expecting this team to be world beaters, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see the Kings have some success this year (meaning bubble or better). Coaching staff is holding them accountable, and it seems like they're holding themselves more accountable, too.

Expecting the Kings to be as bad as they were last year makes no sense — statistically speaking, at least some of the veterans will bounce back from career-worst seasons. I just don't see them all being as bad as they were last year as sustainable in the slightest.

Hopefully Bjornfot can stick and look as good as he has in the preseason - might be wishful thinking, but this group of D looks a lot better without Phaneuf and with Bjornfot and Hutton. Plus an extra year of seasoning and confidence for Walker and Roy. Makes a big difference. They're a smaller group back there without Forbot too, but it should be fun to watch these guys move pucks.

Plus there's a ton more guys competing for jobs in the AHL at every single position - that energy and internal competition should spark a lot more productivity from existing players. And if they can't hang, they won't play.

I'll do you one better, we will have 5/6 Bounce back in some way.. Kopitar, Quick, Doughty, Carter, Toffoli...

We wanted a more mature Doughty, right?

He's a dad off the ice and a mature dad figure partner on the ice now too!
