Does it bother anyone else that the season starts tonight but our beloved Kings don't play until Saturday?
No, it gives TM the time he needs/wants to work on the special teams which he indicated needed more work.

I don't know if being on a winning or losing team matters in development. Kopitar, Brown, Quick and Doughty joined some awful Kings teams and they turned out alright. I'd be more concerned with him being surrounded by players who would be a negative influence on a young player.

Thankfully there aren't any bad seeds who are disruptive jackasses like the Kings had in the past with the likes of Jeremy Roenick and Sean Avery.
I don't think it matters as long as the young guys are putting in the work and are improving. What does matter is having veterans who are willing to work with young players and teach them how to be pros. Guys like Sean O'Donnell and Michael Handzus were invaluable in that role for the Kings.

That was already the case when you compared him with Thomas Hickey.

Lmfao just because I haven't been able to keep up with camp has no bearing whatsoever on the plain written English Hickey/Bjornfot scouting report comparables.

You really need to let this go, mate. We had this debate over three months ago.

That is extremely optimistic believing this team will be one that battles, claws, fights and overachieves more often than not.

I sincerely hope that they don't disappoint you, at least not early in the year. Hope springs eternal and everyone is undefeated to start the season so I admire your ultra-positive takes on everything. Sounds like a great way to live but this franchise has beaten me down more often than not that I've learned to expect the worst so I can be mildly enthusiastic when they wind up simply mediocre.

I mean, it was only preseason, but I did not see one game--minus the tentativeness during the first game--where there wasn't heart/hustle. That alone is amusing at least.

I don't expect them to be worldbeaters but there are guys playing for pride, for jobs, and for entry into the NHL. That alone will weed out the remainder of the malcontents.

Nobody else wants to watch them either. Even the first home game is a Saturday afternoon. The Ducks are down. The Knights stole the Sharks. There's a price to pay for irrelevancy.

That boring rep is gonna last for half a decade at least.

I think having someone at the helm that holds zero loyalties to anyone is a good start... At minimum we're getting rid of 2 vets in Toffoli and Lewis so thats 2 young kids that'll at the very least play hard.. here's looking at JAD and maybe Rempal?
Unlike other sports, in hockey having kids that are hungry can have a rejuvenating effect on veterans

Just being a kid doesn't equal success. I'm 100% certain Rempal will not be an NHL regular. As for getting rid of Toffoli and Lewis, there are no guarantees but it would happen closer to the half-way mark or the TDL, meaning they are here for a long portion of the season which would impact the record if they are so bad that they should be replaced by Rempal.

I believe they will be better than last year due to competent coaching and the fact that it would be hard to be much worse. While it is overly negative to expect a repeat of last season, it is also highly optimistic to expect every one--another year older--to bounce back with bouncing back meaning these old guys at their best.

It is true they aren't chopped liver but they are also not the 2014 version.

What makes you feel that you can guarantee that Rempal will not be an NHL regular? Did you watch him in college? Did you watch him play with the Reign? Rempal was a considered one of the bigger college free agents for his year with a lot of teams interested in him. What are you basing that guarantee off of?

The odds are firmly in my favor that he is a career AHL'er/Euro league guy. Not big, already 24 and faded majorly down the stretch last year.

Brickley was a bigger signing. He isn't looking good either. UDFA signings are nice swings to take but the success rate on these guys isn't tremendous.

Of the past 4 UDFA, Petersen, Brickley, Rempal, Lizotte.. we've hit on 50%, small sample i know but Brinkley has talent its just a matter of putting something together and rolling from there

doesn't bother me but makes me eager as hell to watch the kings play. What is odd is LA was not one of the last teams to play exhibition. Long time between games.

Still, these signings are a positive. They essentially freebies that are more mature with a chance at the big club. The only negative aspect is they take up 1 of 50 contracts. That's it. If they don't make it to the NHL, they still provide help provide a solid base that hopefully translates into a winning atmosphere for you draft picks to develop some of them into NHL players, and it helps the AHL franchise to boot. There is very little downside. Rempal is skilled, but he is rubbed off the puck easily. Big year for him to see if he can be consistent for an entire season. Jury is still out on him, but the odds do not favor him to get to the next level without a big season this year and improvement in areas he is lacking (strength, defense). I had high hopes for Bricks, and he gets a pass for the personal difficulties from last season, but this may be a make it or break it professional season for him. He needs to show he has the right stuff. He does have the size the Kings lack on the back end.

I’m thinking with all the rookies coming in next year that it may be good to break Bjornfot in this season. One less rookie and a guy to show the ropes a bit more to the next era guys.

Been ignoring the off-season even training camp.....so who made the team, what lines, hows it looking between the OMG sky is falling crowd and OMG Kings are worldbeaters crowd?
Starting lineup:
Iafallo - Kopitar - Brown
Kovalchuk - Kempe - Carter
Grundstrom - Amadio - Toffoli
Clifford - Lizotte - Lewis
Wagner

Bjornfot - Doughty
Martinez - Roy
Hutton - Walker
Ex. MacDermid, Ryan

Quick
Campbell

Petersen was drafted by Buffalo. He just signed with the Kings after deciding to go pro and not wanting to sign with Buffalo.

That said, Rempal is a much longer shot than Lizotte of having a successful NHL career, and Lizotte has a much higher compete level than Rempal. Not that he can't make it, but if someone put a gun to my head and make me guess now, I'd guess Rempal gets less than 100 career NHL games.

No, the odds are not firmly in your favor that he will 100% not be an NHL regular.

You are correct that the success rate of UDFA signings is not all that high, but that could be said for basically every non 1st round draft pick. For example, there are currently 65 active players in the NHL who were UDFA, while there are only 38 active players who were drafted in the 7th round.

Saying that he is a guarantee to not amount to anything is just you being overly negative, especially when he had a pretty stellar first pro season.
