This is highly debatable. I would rather have the youngsters learn from Dustin Brown than watch Kopitar break his stick over the crossbar 20 times a season. You can get less talented, but better leaders that are vets to eat minutes.

Here's a list of upcoming free agents. Good luck.

No thanks, give me Kopitar and Doughty.

Glad DL had Handzus, who was great, and was later able to trade for Stoll/Greene and sign amazing guys like Mitchell, but can you think of any comparable players today? It also leaves out the hardcore strikeouts on schmucks like Nagy, Trent Hunter, Ethan Moreau, et al....yeahhhh give me the 20 minute near PPG Selke winning multiple Cup center over Nate Thompson or Hanzal please. Like I said, homegrown guy who has been there > random UFA. We are going to need the cap hits anyway.

Doesn't matter. The Kings are stuck with the contracts they have now. I wouldn't mind Simmonds for two years, or bringing back Muzzin though, if the Kings had moved out some of the old guard when they should have done it. Now they are stuck with what they have without the benefit of the assets which could have been received in a trade.

Why are you picking the dogs out of the UFAs, instead of the better leaders?

Here are the TOP UFAs in 2015. If you didn't want to re-sign Kopitar and wanted to deal him instead, here are the UFAs which you would have signed to replace him:
NHL's top 10 unrestricted, top 10 restricted free agents of 2015

Here's the complete list of signings from free agency of 2015: Official 2015 free agent signings tracker

If you wanted to trade Kopitar after signing him to the 8 year contract, back when you said it's obvious the Kings were no longer a contender, here are your options: NHL free agency 2016: deal tracker and analysis - TheHockeyNews

You can pick Staal if you want, but he scored less than 40 points the season prior, and Minnesota is sitting in the basement with LA. Not really leading them anywhere, either.

You're still overpaying to replace a capable veteran, counting on magic beans to pan out, and choosing the devil you don't know versus the devil you know.

Please, that's why I posted the list--feel free to go through it and pick out the "guys that would be better for this team than Kopitar and Doughty. "

Like sure it 'doesn't matter,' but it DOES matter, because the exercise shows there's nothing out there. It's like when you considered Kopitar for Johansen.

I'm not against the idea in general and I like that DL did that, but those were different times that required it. Now I'd LOVE to see those guys to support Kopitar and Doughty (and Brown), but where are they? I'd kill for a Willie Mitchell or Justin Williams right now just like you would but find me anything in their universe on that list and I'll happily concede.

I don’t see players coming into their own these days like those titans of character we were lucky to collect. I don’t even know what else to call them, they remain that in my mind. Those guys seem harder to find.

The young guys like Anderson, Bjornfot, and Turcotte will have to learn how to lead the way with some help from guys like Brown and Clifford.

Subban was not supposed to be traded either. What GMs say and what GMs do are different.

It's honestly wild that we were able to nab all three of these guys, and JAD

And there are some really high-character guys that could pan out as well that are less sure things, like Durzi, Strand, Thomas, etc.

Not sure what some of us were thinking when we suggested that there’s no way the Kings would be worse than they were last season, but here we are.

That’s what I get for being modestly optimistic and hopeful that pride would kick in and the veterans would step up.

You and me both, I suggested a bubble team. Jesus Christ. It's truly mind blowing that we're at a WORSE pace than Willie D.

Goes to show that these deep rooted problems go beyond coaching (and management). Besides the lottery and the draft, the only thing left to look forward to is seeing how many names will be moved between now and the trade deadline.

Perhaps Jack Campbell may be the first to go this season.

I called this team "good" after game 6. I had to go on a bender to handle the shame.

They're not turning Clifford and Campbell into a 23 year old forward signed at $3.2m for the following 2 years that plays.

Blake would likely have to take Hutchinson back, just for roster purposes. The Leafs have their own young guys playing in the minors too. Then a pick on top of that or something. Retain 50% on Clifford, and maybe get a Trevor Moore type. Or Timashov instead? Maybe another mid to late round pick? It's Campbell(and off to a bad start), and Clifford. You can't get too crazy.

I'd argue that we're actually considerably worse in most areas this season than we were last season, with the exception of our record (equally as bad), goals for, and shots for. In fact, funny enough, McLellan had a worse record through 13 games than Stevens did.

Does it suck that we're in last? Yeah. But there are a lot of other teams in the bottom third of the league that didn't win any cups this decade, and I'd much rather be us than them. Hell, even Tampa Bay is 21st in the league right now. Teams like the Ducks, Stars, Rangers, Blue Jackets, Sharks, Devils, and Wild. Rangers and Devils might be on the upswing, and maybe the Ducks too, but I would not want to eb a Stars, Sharks, or Wild fan right about now. At least we've got a whole crop of excellent young players coming up in Turcotte, Vilardi, Kupari, Kaliyev, JAD, Bjornfot, Anderson, Grundstrom, Thomas, Durzi, and more. That's actually an insane list of prospects, and we're trending towards another top 5 pick again this year.

Anyone see an improvement with TM? I know the Kings were a mess under WD but this is not good either.

Did Blake make a mistake firing Stevens a few years back? We made the playoffs and were eliminated in round 1 against Vegas.

Then last year the kings start the pre season and regular season terrible and Stevens is gone and it’s been a mess since then. Was this inevitable?
