Any idea what Toffoli's camp is thinking for salary and term? If it's not too crazy then I'd be fine if they kept him. If a team blows your socks off with an offer then fine but I doubt it.

I think he'll consider all optoins and wait to see what Bouwmeester decides to do. He's got a young family to consider and has had a good career. He might decide to retire. Maybe Armstrong then isn't shopping for a rental. But it will be on his plate, between now and the deadline.

I would agree but the issue is that Bouwmeester may not decide what he is going to do before the deadline. They may not have all medical reports and a recovery plan by then either.

that ship sailed years ago... He needs a new start and we need that roster spot

Andddddd he's a UFA... You have to trade him to get some assets back. If the Kings really want to re-sign him (which they definitely shouldn't in my opinion), they can always pursue that option in the summer.

If they don't trade him he could easily walk in free agency and then the Kings will have lost a valuable asset with literally nothing to show for it.

I think Martinez ends up bringing more back than Toffoli. Wonder if Carolina sends Toronto's first for him? I expect Toffoli to get a second and a prospect from Boston.

Need that roster spot for who? Keeping him for 2 or 3 more seasons allows the Kings to be patient with their kids. I suppose they can overpay some UFA, maybe Ladislav Nagy is available?
Keeping him for 2-3 years meaning acquiring zero assets for a guy who isn’t going to thrive in a team that lacks talent. Gel can take that spot, Vilardi could use it for his eventual call up this season or maybe they acquire a replacement in a Marty deal. Holding on to depreciating assets that no longer fit the current teams needs is why we’re in our current position.. It leads to mediocrity and I’ve had enough of that!

Kings expect to be busy ahead of Trade Deadline, GM says

Please pretty standard stuff in here...

You've already made one trade. Do you see this deadline -- especially because of the number of players you have that are pending UFAs -- as a best-chance scenario to push ahead the plan to rebuild the roster?
"I think yes with the number of unrestricted free agents. We know we have to get some of these kids playing too. A lot of them have had the accumulation of the season in the minors and we'll stick to that plan going forward, but that kind of plays out here as we go."

Fair to say that you're just in the market for picks and prospects now?
"Yes. We've been very vocal this year about that. Last year and this year when we sat back and we looked at the structure of our team structure, the contracts, expiring contracts at hand, and the lack of draft picks over the years there, we had to replenish that. Last year and this year, the main focus has been on that."

Still think it's horse**** that people see such a large gap between Pageau and TT that they always suggest a 1st + for Pageau and a mediocre pick + for Toffoli.

I'm confident I'll be proven right.

I just think it’s supply and demand. Realistically, how many centres the caliber or Pageau are available? It’s not bible, but if you look at the “TSN trade board” guys like Derek Grant, Chris Tierney, Old Man Thornton and maybe throw in Granlund (NSH) are the next best available. To me, that’s a rather large drop off.

So if your a team who loses out on acquiring Pageau to fill the need at centre, the pickings are slim.

Wingers look to be more readily available and the list is interchangeable depending on preference. I don’t see that big of a gap. Lose out on Kreider, fall back on rumoured on the block guys like Toffoli, Kovy, Buchnevich, Hoffman, Athanasiou, Tatar, Timo Meier, Kapanen, etc.

It’s not that Pageau is that much better than TT, it’s just that it’s a year where Pageau is really the only quality centre on the market as far as we know.

Right or wrong, we’ll see how things unfold come Feb 24 or sooner.

Btw, the Ducks Ondrej Kase intrigues me. Would like to see the Kings find away to grab him. Would likely have to be a 3-team deal. Injury bug has bit him, but he looks to have plenty of talent. Wonder if he just needs a new start and can potentially be like a Burakovsky.

So Elliotte Freidman just said on Sportsnet pre game tonight that Carolina offered a deal to LA involving Martinez but LA turned it down because they wanted futures and Carolina not so much. Other teams interested and said Carolina could circle back.
Could that be why they made it known today that they’d be willing to part with a 1st for a guy with term:naughty:

Not a bad sign, sell as high as you can on Amart. That extra year should cost and he is a decent dman.
