Man I love your optimism but no way is Kupari skating again in 3 months after an ACL repair.
It would be pretty rare if he wasn't able to skate 3 MONTHS after an ACL injury. And not at all unrealistic to be ready to return to competitive hockey in 9 MONTHS. Google it.

His inclusion is one of the most difficult for me. But I don't know the status of his knee injury, but if he's playing skating and practicing in 3 months from now and a 100% in 9 months. Then I think it's realistic that he could compete for a spot and given our dire need for playmakers with the puck. I like the way he might fit on a wing next to a Vilardi and fagemo who he might compliment very well.

To me it's about can you beat out a current roster spot on our team and if so you deserve it and your in. If he's not healthy then let him get back up to speed in the AHL and call him up.
I think the bigger issue was his confidence, the knee will heal with time... It's his mental approach that will determine the type of player he'll eventually be.. IMO

Because JAD in the NHL at 20 is a different animal than Kaliyev in the NHL at 20, and what they are asked to do etc.

I do agree that they would be asked to do different things. I actually think Kaliyev will have a much easier transition than most prospects. He has what is potentially the best shot outside of the NHL, combined with his size and him being a winger with less responsibility, he could easily excel quickly.

He won't be skating at 3 months, that's just at the end of the danger period where the graft is at it's weakest point. It's 6 weeks to be walking unobstructed, then approx 4 months to rebuild the muscle wastage for a pro. That's best case scenario if he is weight bearing after surgery, if he's done meniscus damage then he's 6 weeks non weight bearing before he can even start a recovery.

He wouldn't begin to skate until at least the 5-6 month period depending on if it's considered a closed or open exercise, I'm not an expert on skatings impact on acls, but there's just so much stuff the body has to reprogram to learn how to operate in it's new configuration that just takes time, and pro athlete or not you can't speed up the body's healing process. He's in no rush, a lot of the healing time is during the off-season so there's no need to push him, a november comeback would be a target, targeting a non contact jersey during training camp.

Source, I've been through an acl reconstruction

He could, JAD as a centerman needs to put on mass etc, but I do agree that Kaliyev will be the toughest decision next year.....

I'm sorry but there is actual examples of hockey players returning from ACL injuries within 9 months. So the anecdotal story from you tearing your ACL is just not that relevant. Robby Fabbri for one came back 9 months after.
Hate to bring facts to this argument, but:
Here's a study from 5 years ago:

"Results

A total of 36 players (37 knees) meeting the inclusion criteria underwent ACL reconstruction while in the NHL. Thirty-five players were able to RTS in the NHL (97%), and 1 player returned to the international Kontinental Hockey League. Of the players who RTS in the NHL, 100% were able to RTS the season after ACL reconstruction (mean, 7.8 ± 2.4 months)."

From an article in The Athletic Am I ever going to be the same? The path forward for Jusso Valimaki as told by fellow ACL tear victims

Scott Cruikshank said:
Typically, patients are told to expect a recovery period of 6-9 months...

But Kris Versteeg has something to say about this kind of timetable.

Scott Cruikshank said:
[Versteeg] is convinced that players come back too early. Way too early. He managed to return in five and a half months, which, upon reflection, he deems ridiculous.
“You can battle through — that’s what I did the whole year — but I was just a shell of myself,” said Versteeg. “I wasn’t doing anything. I was basically just able to be able.” He laughs. “That’s the best way to put it.”

Later that winter, he was dealt to Chicago, where he’d started his career. As a performer, he was unrecognizable to locals. “Everyone’s like, ‘Where the hell’s the player that left here?’ I came back too early and my game suffered.”

Which brings Versteeg to his recommendation.

Nine months, minimum.

I mean, beyond recovery, guys never quite seem to be back to themselves--skating, confidence, thinking--for another calendar year.

Kupari wasn't exactly banging down the door before this ACL. I don't care if he's ready by next camp or not, he's not going to be in the NHL next year.

Pretty much, the kid is going to need next year to recover and the year after to get back on track...
He might actually be one of the last tier of kids to join the big club.. No shame in that, the kid needed more physical maturity and now he’ll get to heal under the Kings watch.. I see him being better when he finally returns to form..

I wish they could pull off a trade like this again.

Unfortunately, they don’t have a productive 28-year-old center to flip for two top six forwards.

The closest opportunity they could’ve had to pull off such a deal would’ve been to move Jeff Carter in 2017 when he scored 32 goals, but the old regime was still trying to sneak into the playoffs back then.

I knew a lot of Kings fans who were upset at this trade, bernie was a fan favorite. But talk about selling high. 70 goals and 150 pts were clearly unsustainable.

My main target would be Kapanen. I wonder if LA retained 50% on Martinez if it would be close to enough.

Maybe it is a guy I just need to give up on as I have been pushing for LA to get him since before the expansion draft.

Blake (or more likely his successor) has to re-create an environment where players want to come here for more than just the weather and the beach. With the organization making a not-so-subtle effort to be as bad as possible for the foreseeable future, I don't see that happening for years under present management.

It hasnt happened in our history, what makes you think it ever will??
Drafting, trades and some luck will be our best bets

I think Blake will end up trading Doughty if the Kings aren’t a playoff team after the 21-22 season. It may be sooner if they are a cellar dweller after next season. He should obviously trade him now, but it won’t happen for a bunch of reasons that management isn’t smart enough to overcome. I think when it does happen, it will be Doughty who asks for the trade in order to go to a contender.

Here are some quotes from him about this season from after the loss to Florida.

'Frustrating as hell': Drew Doughty opines on the state of...

“It’s frustrating. Being one of the top guys, I never expected to be (in this position). I always expected that I would be able to help push my team to a playoff spot every single year,” Doughty said. “But now back-to-back years, being in last place, it’s been stressful and depressing a little bit.

“Sometimes you’ve got to sit back and realize you don’t have the team you once had.”

“There are times when you see really good things and you can see we’re getting better,” said Doughty, who is in the first year of a self-negotiated eight-year, $88-million contract.

“The bottom line is we need to play a full 60 minutes and we didn’t play well (against the Panthers). You didn’t see a full 60 minutes. Vegas, we didn’t play well for two periods. Carolina was a good 60 minutes even though we lost.

“Tampa was ups and downs too. We need to figure out how to play a full 60 minutes. When we have the lead, we need to learn how to (protect) the lead. I know we’ve got a young team, so maybe it’s a little harder now.

“Bottom line is we’re still in second-to-last place or maybe last.”

”I’m pretty positive, just from what I personally think, there will be a couple more (trades) coming up.”

“We know we’re never going to all stay together forever,” Doughty said. “That’s just the bottom line. It’s a business. The thing that is frustrating — we just need to get better and stop being at the bottom of the league. What is frustrating as hell.”

“That was a good time for the dads,” Doughty said. “We had some fun, if that’s the last one with everyone.”

And Rangers fans were also unhappy with trading Sandstrom and Granato. But fortunately for them, they were able to flip Nicholls to Edmonton for Mark Messier.

I just don't see who can afford him.

What? You can't trade every player over 30. No, in reality around here trading any player over 30 who would have brought a decent return was considered heresy.

Travel alone makes it impossible for many players to choose LA over other destinations. Many teams up in the NE sleep in their own beds even after road games.

Fact is, most of these players by a significant margin grew up in the north and east. It's no surprise at all that the idea of playing close to home with friends and family in reach is greatly appealing no matter how awesome the weather is year around in California. This is why I laugh every time they mention the beaches and how LA has some mythical edge in FAs or trading.

Who was LA's last big FA signing that LA did not have to overpay? Does Simon Gagne count? I guess it was supposed to be Kovalchuk but LA had to outbid other teams with more $$ and term for him to "pick" LA. Willie Mitchell i was pumped about, but even then I think LA was rumored to be offering more money and term than other places. I know that this tends to happen in free agency, but I look at Panarin who had higher offers but chose New York. Doesn't seem like that happens in LA at all....not even with RFAs.

The beaches and warm weather do not see to help the fact LA has to overpay for free agents to choose LA.

Don't forget taxes. Nobody wants to pay these stupid f***ing tax rates. The property tax to own property in LA is also ridiculous.
