These are the Dman we need before we bring up a Anderson/Bjornfot/Clague, if you dont understand why im saying this then you(any of you) really need to have a better understanding of how critical it is for young defenseman to have a solid defensive partner and mentor.. All those kids will get their cup of coffee but in no way should they be rushed because of some silly notion that they'll develop in the NHL when we obviously dont have a good enough team to mentor them..

As for our forwards, well Vilardi has been outstanding given what hes overcome, Turcotte was dominant pre-illness, Kupari blewout his knee so he needs to heal, JAD needs more physical maturity and honestly is looking like a bottom 6 guy..even in Ontario, Fagemo will need to adjust to the NA game but could/will challenge for a spot on the team and Kaliyev is a wild card, can probably score at the NHL level but can he do more??
Frk and Grundstrom will likely make the big club next season so thats 2 spots they'll be taking, Amadio, Lizotte, Wagner, Kempe and Luff will somehow make up our bottom 6 so get use to that..
Add in 2-3 UFA signings and thats your LA Kings team next season.. expecting 7-9 rookies to make the team is silly, however, I do expect that amount to get some run with the big club as our evaluations continue..

Prokhorkin - Kopitar - Brown
Iafallo - Carter - Frk/UFA
Kempe - Lizotte - Wagner
Grundstrom - Amadio - UFA

UFA-Doughty.. Brodie steps up when paired with a good Dman
Forbort-Walker... Yes, Borts is getting resigned
Anderson/Bjornfot/Clague-Roy/UFA... Maybe Radko Gudas??

Quick/Petersen/Campbell

Thats about as good as it gets... This team is still seeking another top pick after this season unless a Vilardi and/or Turcotte just go on a tear and change this teams fortune..

And yet they will be.. both will continue to remain because of salary, age, experience, mentoring..etc
Carts is a sunk cost at this point with his actual $2 mill salary

Completely agree. O'Donnell, Mitchell, Greene, Scuderi, Regehr, the list goes on...

I agree with the need for veterans, just don't necessarily believe they need to be our veterans.

I have no issue with trading Martinez and Forbort and replacing them with 2 UFAs over summer. Get the assets, bring in comparable players who might have a different perspective.

I think it's reasonable to project that 2 forward prospects and 1 defensive prospect make the team as regulars next year.

Two of:
Fagemo, Kaliyev, Grundstrom, JAD, Vilardi, Turcotte, Kupari

One of:
Bjornfot, Clague

Is Anderson ahead of Clague yet?

Bjornfot and Anderson, at least in my eyes have surpassed Clague. Kale needs to round out his defensive game and get much stronger.. Both Toby and Mikey are pretty stout guys that need a bit more defensive refinement but should solidify our left side over the next year.

I dont think anyone would mind but while Marty can get you some assets, Forbort is likely to sign for cheap because of his time missed. Forbort-Walker could be a good pairing as it would allow each to play to their strengths.

JAD was somewhere between ineffective and invisible. I've been watching hockey for decades and have seen far more young players destroyed by being rushed into an NHL lineup than kept in the AHL for an extra year.

What about playing in the NHL at 20 years old destroys them? Could it be that they just weren't good enough to play in the NHL? How do you know that those players would have developed better had they stayed in the AHL?

Do you think that JAD's development is being destroyed by playing in the NHL this year?

Curious, do you think JAD's development track is the same as say, Kaliyev's track?

Probably, but at the same time Forbort has all of 261 games and 0 playoff game experience. If the goal is to have veterans who can help mentor the rookies, I'm not sure Forbort really fits what I'd be looking for. Willie Mitchell had 570 regular season + 45 playoff games under his belt and had played with 4 different organizations when we brought him. Forbort has only been with us for the bad years. With Doughty, Kopitar, Brown, Quick, Carter, Lewis, Clifford we have the same veterans with the same experiences and its potentially just an echo chamber. Trading Forbort for an underwhelming return and overpaying a UFA for 3-4 years is a risk I'd be willing to take just to potentially have a different voice on the blueline.

All that said, I haven't spent enough time looking into the UFA crop to see who that might be, so maybe its a moot point anyway.

he was also coming off injuries to his back i think and was not thought of as aa top ufa piece Face it people ur looking at injured and players like hutton as ufa signings

So what? The point is to have mentors for the rookies, we're not looking for Norris trophy winners.

Not sure what you are asking. I think they are very different prospects and I think they are both developing well. I think the CHL-NHL agreement is kind of bullshit, because having Kaliyev go back to juniors to dominate for a 3rd season would be detrimental to his development in my opinion. I think he is going to be the most difficult decision the Kings will have to make next season.

if im not mistaken the biggest guy we actually went after was Dan Hamhuis.. other than that, we've had Drew, Jake, Alec, and Derek to build around at one point or another so we never needed a vet Dman..
Now obviously its back to basics and guys like Brodie, Hamonic and a few other 30 somethings would come for the money, to stay out west or many other reasons you can think of..
