if im not mistaken the biggest guy we actually went after was Dan Hamhuis.. other than that, we've had Drew, Jake, Alec, and Derek to build around at one point or another so we never needed a vet Dman..
Now obviously its back to basics and guys like Brodie, Hamonic and a few other 30 somethings would come for the money, to stay out west or many other reasons you can think of..

We don't have any shot at Brodie or Hamonic even if there willing to come (and i don't think they would The will sign with contenders first for the record ) just for the money and weather both other California teams can do the same thing.

I think Radko is going to cash in, he's having a good season, has stopped taking the bad penalties to emerge as a solid stay at home defenseman. At 29 years of age this might be his last shot at a long term, bloated money deal, it's time for him to cash in.

I've always liked Radko, old school d-man. The Kings need a guy or two like him.

I'm not sure why anyone would be penciling in Kupari for next year. He was just starting to put things together, according to Yannetti, before blowing out his ACL. It's going to take him an extra year to really get going again.

I'd like to see the whole team with guys like Radko. Win or lose at least you know the other team is going to have some bumps and bruises when they leave. This team needs some passionate players, players that play with emotion. Right now there's none and it makes it worse when the skill level is so low AND they're losing games.

Hamonic will want to stay close to home. It is why he was traded to begin with. I fully expect him to sign in Winnipeg.

Honestly the one D-man who checks a lot of boxes is Muzzin, and he may want to come back.

Blake (or more likely his successor) has to re-create an environment where players want to come here for more than just the weather and the beach. With the organization making a not-so-subtle effort to be as bad as possible for the foreseeable future, I don't see that happening for years under present management.

Why is Kopitar going to the ASG? What a waste of time.

He needs to get all the rest he can get.

Send a young kid, one that will appreciate it more than Kopitar.

Why is DD on a trade rumor list? Where could he actually go? (if he even waived NMC) Would take 10 million in salary coming back, as well.

Kopitar is an all-star. He is on a 71 point pace while still being a shut down center.

That is why he was selected. Why is he going? I cannot answer that. I would be tickled pink if they just cancelled the all star game and either spread the schedule out or gave a 3 day break around the trade deadline. It would allow families of those traded to get organized.

speaking of rumors how about the rumors about the flyers being interested in Carter

Great. Send him there for virtually anything...can you imagine the Philly fans, seeing Carter now? They hated on him when he was a very good player...
he's now apx 30% of what he was. They would riot there and demand Flrtcher's head.

No they drafted kids and threw them right onto the NHL lineup even if many of them needed some seasoning.
Which is not what am I proposing with my 9 players. None of them except the likely top 5 2020 draft pick would fit this description.

JAD was somewhere between ineffective and invisible. I've been watching hockey for decades and have seen far more young players destroyed by being rushed into an NHL lineup than kept in the AHL for an extra year.
The reality is that this is a case by case scenario. You can always point to examples of players that didn't pan out and blame it on the organization. But the reality is it's much more likely that the individual that didn't pan out is to blame whether through a lack of talent or hard work.

And again if I wanted to use your argument against you I would just say (without knowing the actual data but like Crassbonanza said something like 46 of the 50 leading scorers were in the NHL by their age 20 season) so the reality is that there are much more successful players that entered at a young age and developed into stars then players that didn't.

Now that again has to do with individual talent as well. But at what point are we saying, that if a player is one of the very best prospects outside of the NHL,its ok for them to be called up. And likely ideal for them to develop in the NHL?

When I think of our 2020 1st he is hopefully a premier talent that typically would start in the NHL like many successful high picks before him.

His inclusion is one of the most difficult for me. But I don't know the status of his knee injury, but if he's playing skating and practicing in 3 months from now and a 100% in 9 months. Then I think it's realistic that he could compete for a spot and given our dire need for playmakers with the puck. I like the way he might fit on a wing next to a Vilardi and fagemo who he might compliment very well.

To me it's about can you beat out a current roster spot on our team and if so you deserve it and your in. If he's not healthy then let him get back up to speed in the AHL and call him up.

Man I love your optimism but no way is Kupari skating again in 3 months after an ACL repair.

Nobody ever really wanted to come here. Most were either traded (Stoll, Greene, Regehr, Gaborik, Richards, Carter) or overpaid (Scuderi, at the time that contract was overpaid for the open net series saving stop vs the Red Wings) or offered an extra year security (Mitchell) or both Kovy.

The ones that “wanted” to come here were the ones that didn’t have much options. Pressing, Gauthier, Handzus, Nagy, etc

Did others end up liking it here once they got her? Yes but most weren’t jumping at 12am day of free agency.

Not sure what you are asking. I think they are very different prospects and I think they are both developing well. I think the CHL-NHL agreement is kind of bull****, because having Kaliyev go back to juniors to dominate for a 3rd season would be detrimental to his development in my opinion. I think he is going to be the most difficult decision the Kings will have to make next season.

Because JAD in the NHL at 20 is a different animal than Kaliyev in the NHL at 20, and what they are asked to do etc.

What "rest"? So the Kings can make their final push to the bottom of the league?

Kings have nothing to play for.
