If we take Tkachuk at 3rd, is it TT, MB, or both ?

I would say Tkahchuk is more of a Churla/MB type of player then Timmins as a guess.

Mark Edwards mentioning Jay O'Brien got me intrigued. Saw this write-up from his HF thread:
Is he an option for the Habs in the 2nd round or is he too long a project, as a high schooler?

I would be interested in him from talking to some Providence fans as they seem to think he's going to step in and play in the top 6. They are looking to have a very good team next year as long as Hawkey plays the way he did in the 2nd half and their Sophomore class takes the logical step forward. Providence has a good coach and they recruit well under him so he's certainly someone I would be interested in if he's there in the 2nd round.

Tkachuk has some serious skill. I don't know why he is being so vehemently discounted. I want Zadina, but we would be so blessed to land Tkachuk as well.

Looking into O'Brien further, seems that he's had a growth spurt, when comparing the write-up in my prior post vs. The Draft Analyst.

The Draft Analyst has him ranked 21st in its list of top 25 centers available to the 2018 draft:

21. Jay O’Brien (Thayer Academy, HS-MA | 5’10, 185): Matching speed with a ferocious appetite for success usually nets good results, so it didn’t come as a surprise that O’Brien recently was named the top high school player in New England. He’s a tough competitor who doesn’t quit on a play regardless of the score or how much time remains on the clock. He’s headed to Providence College in the fall.

And as the Analyst puts it: There’s no way to sugarcoat it – the 2018 NHL draft is one of the thinnest for centers in quite some time. In fact, you have to go back to the 2000 draft to find the last time a pivot was not one of the first 10 players chosen.

Of course, TDA's comments need to be taken with a grain of salt as they exclude Kotkaniemi from the list as they consider him to be a winger.

Back to O'Brien -- is he really 2nd round material? Even those who provided extended lists in this thread, did not include O'Brien in their rankings.

Playing out of a US high school program and also ineligible for any of the U18 tournaments this year, O'Brien is one of those prospects who unless you actually got the chance to see live, was virtually unscoutable.

The only footage of him this year that's out there was the All-American Prospects Game (think the full game is floating around somewhere) which later got him an invite to play with the NTDP for a 5-game stretch, where he did very well against NCAA competition and even got to center Wahlstrom at some point.

While my hockeytv sub was still active after the 5 nations a couple months ago, I went back and watched those games after reading Edwards being so high on him. (I'll see if I can find some clips)

Immediately you notice the speed, skill and doggedness. But also was surprised how smart and mature his game was for a kid coming out of prep school. He's also got a wicked shot. Not the biggest guy but finds ways to stand out in all three zones. Has a similar game to Farabee a bit but at the center position.

Had he taken part in the U18 events this year, I have little doubt we'd be seeing him climb up in people's top 60 lists.

Thanks for doing this, G0bias. He may be an under-the-radar gem, someone who may fall further than he should and be available as a late 2nd rounder or early 3rd rounder. How much of an appetite would you say the Habs typically have for drafting someone out of a US high school program? Also, about his size, he's still growing -- he's listed at 6' right now, there may be more room to grow.

Plus, he plays center. Could be a guy the Habs target if the centers they want get scooped up earlier than anticipated.

Timmins has been known to not shy away from picking out of American junior leagues with a few HS picks. McDonagh and Fisher most notably.

O'Brien also has those tools Timmins tends to look for in forwards. I could see him take a chance with one of our later 2nds, if not our 3rd. Atleast he's got high skill level enough that I wouldn't be mad at the selection should he not pan out.

If we were picking around 9 or 10, I'd be driving the Tkachuk hype train around here. It's mostly an opportunity cost thing as opposed to a dislike of the player. I could be accused of being a Nils Lundkvist fanboy, but I would be put into cardiac arrest by selecting him in the top 10. That sort of thing.

HM. Jenik, Hillis, O'Brien, Kurashev, Khovanov

Finally, we're seeing O'Brien as an option. Can't wait to read more about him.

Just kidding, lol.

By the way, did you hear the segment on 690 involving Mark Edwards of the Black Book? He had a pretty scathing assessment of Veleno.

Going from memory, I think he said something along the lines of Veleno not having enough scoring ability and poor hockey sense, how he has him ranked as an early 2nd rounder vs. colleagues that have him mid-second round, says that he doesn't even think that Veleno will stay at center.
Yes.....very sobering.

Then you had McGuire really liking Tkachuk......I don't know anymore lol

If Tkachuk was so flawed, wouldn't McGuire be all over it? Same with the other scouts?

I'm still for Zadina.....if it's Whalstrom, I'd be a "tad" dissapointed but not really.......Tkachuk, I'd be "Well, the'd better make sure this pans out.

The anticipation is killing me, change is on the menu, Lacroix and JJD let go, Sly let go, Ducharme hired, Alexandre Alain signed, Dudley on the move?...... 3rd overall pick, Zadina?......Pacioretty next? Once Armada season over, do we hear the Bouchard addition?

I'm loving this off season so far, but it's all for nothing if we don't aquire centres........AND a partner for Weber.......

I have only seen highlights so maybe there is more to the story as to why everyone hates him but he looks pretty damn slick from what I have seen

Normally, under schedule, you would be able to view Brady's home games. Here are some links that I have saved in my history.

118382 – Stadium

100382 – Stadium

You can find specific home games here, if you know the date they were played:

We’ve been conditioned the last few years to expect our GM to target character over talent. Tkachuks name actually hurts his status on here more than it helps I think

He got out produced by a draft eligible defensemen so it's hard for me to wrap my head around him being a third overall pick. Top ten but not top five for me his production/goal scoring outside of wjc is concerning.

Tkachuk would be awesome for us if we had a great center. Granted, that can be said about anyone, but I feel for him to hit his potential, he needs linemates who can get pucks on net or dish it directly to him.

I have Wahlstrom higher on my list but no issues with Zadina. I still prefer Boqvist to both but I can see the team passing on him.

As for the centers and LHD help, I am not going to hold my breath this will be fixed all together during the off-season. As much grief as I give Bergevin, this start to the off-season has been positive so far.

I'm reluctant to give Bergevin any type of credit for this.. I mean this is the removal of a lot of his best buddies and nepotism partners. It may be due to pressures from Molson and the likelihood that Bergevin is on his last legs in Montreal.

It's smart bringing in Ducharme and getting rid of these clowns.. but it's not smart putting someone on life support in charge of big decisions because it often leads to you going in the opposite of the correct direction.

I don’t disagree. I’m sure there’s obviously a lot of pressure coming down from the top. Also not saying we’re seeing a new man and new philosophy... nobody changes their management style after a weekend. The moves so far is the low hanging fruit, but it was stuff that had to be done so credit to him, or Molson for kicking his a$$, but let’s hold off on the ovations until the work is done which to be honest, the hard work is going to be in June and July.

I haven't followed the draft this year, can someone tell me how Zadina or your pick @3 compare with players from other drafts? Where would Zadina go in 2016, 2017.

It's hard to really do this because sometimes team needs come in..

Out of the top ten players picked last year
Hischier
Pettersson
Glass
Mittelstadt
Zadina

So I would have had him there, around 5, out of the guys taken in the top 10.. but I also really think Rasmussen and Tippett are garbage.
