0 point for Smith in the tournament, considering the quality ice time he had and was paired with Merkley most of the time, thats quite disappointing. Good skating ability and poise, but I didn't saw any high end IQ plays that wowed me, he probably underdelivered, but still I don't think he belongs in the top10. 10 to 15 is the right range imo.
As much as I like Smith, he does deserve some shade for his lack of production. I expected him to contribute much more, especially with a head coach who's familiar with him and all. He got plenty of minutes and opportunities.

Yeah, I was expecting much more from him, especially offensively. I'm not even talking points, just more creativity.

At least, its helped make my D rankings clearer. Hes not the 2nd or 3rd best D that I was hoping.

One thing though, is that being paired with Merkley is not an easy job. Hell make anyone look bad. I really dont like Merkley.

I was wondering, with everyone high on Quinn Hughes and Adam Boqvist, if both are on the board, which of the two would you select? Hughes because he's a LD?

I dont think Smith makes much sense for the Habs if ever we get another mid first since we already have a similar player in Mete... I like Smith, but I dont think he has top pairing upside...

Boqvist is closing his season strong, that's for sure. I like them both honestly, you can make an argument for either. Boqvist has the more ''mature'' game so I guess he's the safer pick and probably the one I'd go with. Hughes is so much damn fun to watch though .

What are you guys thoughts on Lauko and Jenik? I had them high in my rankings, I am pretty sure I had Jenik higher than anyone else, he is super young, I think they played a pretty solid game, but they are getting pass in my rankings from couple of players I have been more impressed by in Berggren, Foudy and Dellandrea notably. They are interesting options for the latter 2nd rounders tho imo, I am not seeing their names often here.
Lauko was so bad defensively at the 5 nations that Im not really interesting in watching him anymore...

I know it isn't the type of player most of you tend to be high on. But I would be fine with grabbing Bahl with one of our second (later ones), I like what I saw, he makes good decisions with the puck and know how to use his size to his advantage, I think there is potential to be more than a one dimensional D player, his hands and skating are respectable for his size, could develop into something interesting, offensive game of bigger guys often time takes more time to develop. You also have to factor in his younger age when projecting.

Also
Farabee or Smith?
You can also throw Veleno in there.

I like Bahl, said it many times. The problem with drafting him this high is that similar players usually go for around a 2nd round pick, so why waste one on a maybe? Thats usually my train of thought. Is it possible to acquire with said pick, yes no, if no, hes good value.

Smith, clearly, its going to take more than four games to change what I think of him.

Farabee easily...

I had Smith clearly behind Boqvist, Dobson, Hughes and Bouchard; staying behind those. Merkley and Wilde didn't improved their stock either though, so he is staying at the same spot in terms of D for me. But compared to some forwards like Farabee he may drop, not sure though, which is why I am asking.

These 4 games were not enough for me to lose the love for Smith. Seeing more of Boqvist boosted him up for me but I don't think Smith was bad. He did not dominate like I hoped and expected but his poise, skating, defensive play and playing all situations are still positives. He made more errors than i thought he would and didn't set himself apart offensively.

He's now the 3rd D-man on my list behind Dahlin and Boqvist. But Hughes and Dobson are right there in the same tier.

The thing with Smith is that he never dominates. Hes not that type of D at all. Hes been compared to Keith and its not for nothing, hes a cerebral player that will just move the team to a victory with consistency.

Smith hasn't jumped over the other Ds I have ahead of him but he hasn't dropped for me either. Not after the stellar playoffs he just had.

Never seen Dobson dominate either, Bouchard is also hot and cold, Wilde too, Hughes does dominate but hes a wild card.

Its weird to hold this tourney against Smith.
