from Timmins' interview: «Nous pensons tous savoir qui sera repêché au deuxième rang. Mais attendez l’inattendu.»

translation: ''we all think we know who will be drafted 2nd overall, but expect the unexpected"

Obviously, Timmins still seems to think there is a chance Svechnikov slide...
Svechnikov will be the Hurricanes pick…

Maybe that's why they have not traded the pick yet.
They won't trade the pick until they know who Carolina drafts. If the pick is in play, they'll have a deal all ready to go but won't finalize it until they know for sure that Svechnikov is gone.

Hughes could make me look like an idiot for having him behind Boqvist and Dobson. Merkley, Miller are others

On the other hand some guys i have high like Zhuravlyov, Marchenko, Iskhakov could end up not even making it

I have less trouble with having players higher than consensus vs lower. Lower means you failed considerably, higher means you took a chance and failed, it has to happen and wether its Ishkakov at 35 or Veleno changed a lot IMO.

Love how Timmins straight up said they don't care where players come from without even being asked about it.

I know Beaudin's not as high among the regulars but I'd be totally fine with the Leafs 2nd. In fact it'd be a really good pick, kid has hockey sense in spades.

Beaudin would be a good pick with our later 2nd's. Most of us just don't want him with our 2 high 2nd's since there will likely be very good players who fall.

I like Beaudin TBH. Plus theyll know the kid and hell know the coaches. No way they make a Sam Girard 2.0 happen

I too have others in front at 35 and 38, mostly high 1st rounders on my list. I feel like 56 is getting greedy for him with the hype he's getting lately, oh well.

He will likely go in the early 2nd. I have him around ~40 on my list so I wouldn't be mad if we select him at 38 but with the unpredictability of picks 20-40, I hope we don't just take him because he's from the Q and Timmins and mostly Bergevin are smart about it.

If by any chance we could leave with one if not two of those guys in the second round I'd be really satisfied:
Thomas, Dellandrea, Miller (doubt he falls out of the first), Berggren, Ylonen, Iskhakov, Mcleod

So if we managed to trade Pacioretty for Vilardi, would you guys still want Kotkaniemi at 3?
I believe we don't draft for need, so no matter the trades we make we should end up drafting the same guy. If it's Kotkaniemi now, it's him after a trade too. But I'm not a 100% sold we're going with him as of now.

And no snipers? Also, Poehling... who'd be the perfect complement to Vilardi.
Vilardi and Poehling are still unproven so adding Kotkaniemi gives insurance. If they all pan out we have a great trio of centres. If we don't draft Kotkaniemi, we have to bank on Vilardi reaching his top potential to be a #1 C and Poehling at best will be a #2.

We have the depth already... we got Poehling, Danault, DLR, McCarron, Evans, Ikonen, Vejdemo... you add Vilardi, you don't force a pick. If Kotkaniemi is the top guy then fine, but I think Zadina just makes a whole lot more sense at that point.
