If I read you correctly, are you saying:

To Montreal: Detroit #6 2018, 1st round 2019
To Detroit: Montreal #3 2018, 1st round 2019 plus maybe our TOR or WSH 2nds?

I wouldn’t do that, not by a long shot.

What we know is we have #3 overall, Detroit has #6. What is unknown is next year.

So say we swap picks this year and do the same next year as part of this trade, we run the risk of course of finishing behind Detroit, thus, we give them the better pick in 2019. Add this with swapping a better pick this year. I mean, not that I expect it, but what if Detroit makes the ECF and we finish 4th last again?

Now, if you mean what NP said, which is:

To Detroit: Montreal #3 2018
To Montreal: Detroit #6 2018, 2nd round 2018, 1st round 2019

Yeah, I’d do that. And sure, I’d be willing to give up our 2018 Toronto or Washington pick as well.

No, no, I meant it as having the option to swap firsts from our perspective. That's why we'd give the 2nd and the higher pick this year. Option is ours and ours only.

That wouldn't be a good trade. The proper trade would be something like this

To Montreal: 6th overall, option to swap 2019 firsts and a conditional 2nd round pick
To Detroit: 3rd overall

Condition on the 2nd rounder is that if Montreal doesn't exercise the option to flip picks, then they get Detroit's 2nd round pick.

If we finish below Detroit, then we essentially dropped 3 spots and gave up a late second for nothing. That's not good.

Dylan Larkin wouldn't be a terrible add on to the trade (can add on our side a bit). I'd feel more confident losing out on Kotka if we have Larkin in the organization.

They would do Larkin for the 3rd but I wouldn't. Outside of his rookie season has he really been much more than the 2-3 C tweener he was predicted to be?

Why give Detroit Zadina? Trade with Arizona and let him go out West. Then the Sens take Tkachuk and the Habs take one of Dobson/Kotkaniemi. I highly doubt Detroit gives their 1st next year to move up 3 spots, they know they are going to suck. Get the Coyotes 2nd in 2019 to give you more ammunition for a draft full of centres. Get an additional 1st in 2019 when you trade Max.

I mean we would be getting 30+33/36 instead of a 2nd in 2019. Easy choice. Even if thr rumour isn't true, the likelihood of that 2nd becoming as high as the ones Detroit has for this draft is minimal.

But the team already has four 2nds this year and just one next year. I’d rather start building up for 2019. It’s not like the Coyotes will start being good.

I think you missed his play this season.

He was their best player, in the wreck of a team they had, 63pts in 82 games while he can do it all, and will turn 22 next month. And, he's a C.

There's just no way they'd trade him for our 1st pick, and we'd be crazy not to accept if he was ever proposed for that pick.

Really like your proposal though, especially that potential 2019 1st round pick swap.

And at 6, we can still get a very good player anyway.

I agree on next year, disagree on the Coyotes not being good. Most improved team in 2019, theyll challenge for the POs next year IMO.

That’s what I always think and then they suck. If they can be this bad after adding Stepan, Hjalmarsson and Raanta, I don’t know what will make them good.

Jeez, Larkin had 63 points this year, lets chill with the 2 3 tweener.

I was legitimately asking.. Detroit was garbage to watch and when they played us he didn't seem to be the player that was so impressive in his first season. Good on him for getting those 63 pts on a bad team, wonder what will happen as the team around him gets better.

Hes a solid 1/2 tweener, hes not what we need obviously.

Agreed. I think they need a goalie and their youth needs to step up a bit. Avs surprised a lot of people this year. Coyotes are bound to break out at some point... next year or the year after. Hard to predict but they did have a good 2nd half. By the half way point, I thought they had the last place position secured... then they slip to 5th last due to h. 18th in points from Jan on..

Who cares about next year fact is any 2nd round draft pick in 2018 is worth more than the ones in 2019 because its 1 year less you have to wait for the player to develope

Are you in a rush? One year won’t make a difference if you draft a quality player. I’d rather have more assets for next year, they have enough for 2018.

For me, the only trade I would accept with Arizona

CH 3rd overall 2018

vs

Arizona 5th + 55th 2018 + 2nd 2019

Nothing less.
